Abstract

Abstract

Climate change, environmental pollution, and ecological crisis are global issues that require early attention. Schools have a strategic role in instilling environmental awareness and culture in the younger generation. This community service supports sustainable education efforts through the application of environmental care values and culture at SMP Negreri 01 Pulau Pari. Community service is carried out through socialization, training, and mentoring in the application of the Adiwiyata principles. All activities are monitored and documented to support the sustainability of the program. The results show that this community service activity has been carefully designed and implemented very well, so that it runs on time according to the schedule that has been set. The material presented is very relevant to the needs of the participants, so that it provides direct benefits and is in accordance with expectations. The facilities provided are complete and support the smooth running of the activity, while the committee's service is very satisfying and responsive to the needs of the participants. In addition, the facilitators involved are considered quite effective and communicative in delivering the material, able to explain clearly and build good interactions with participants, so that the learning atmosphere becomes more lively and interactive. Community service activities have provided applicable knowledge and insight for the school environment, strengthened the relationship between schools and universities, and enriched the experience and motivation of the community.

Abstract

Groundwater containing iron(II) (Fe2+) ions causes yellowish-brown discolouration and sediment formation. Since bioadsorbents can remove Fe2+ ions, this study investigated the effect of varying H2SO4 activator concentrations (5%, 7%, 9%, 11%, and 13%) on adsorption efficiency and identifies the optimal concentration for activated charcoal derived from boiled peanut shells (Arachis hypogaea L.) to remove the metal ions from well groundwater in Punge Jurong Village in Aceh Province of Indonesia. The process included carbonising the peanut shell waste, activating the charcoal, and testing the adsorbent on well groundwater. The results were analysed using SSA, SEM, and FTIR instruments, along with statistical analysis via SPSS 15 for one-way of analysis of variance (ANOVA). The adsorption efficiencies were 60.43%, 55.53%, 59.01%, 61.81%, 61.94%, and 59.10% corresponding to the activated carbons by H2SO4 (5%, 7%, 9%, 11%, and 13%) and commercial activated carbon, respectively. The IR-assisted characterisation on the boiled peanut shell waste bioadsorbent suggested that wave number shifting on O–H, C=C and C–O typical regions might be due to protonation affect by the acid activator. Conclusively, the study indicates that 13% H2SO4 is the most effective activator concentration for Fe2+ ion removal using activated carbon derived from boiled peanut shells.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the narrative structure of Taufiq al-Hakim’s short story “Iblis Yantashiru” by identifying both its surface and deep structures through the lens of Algirdas Julien Greimas’s narrative semiotics. The analysis of the story’s narrative structure is crucial, as it significantly influences the comprehension of the overall meaning of the text. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing written data derived directly from the literary work. Data collection techniques include close reading, note-taking, and library research. The data were analyzed through several stages: identification, interpretation, analysis, and conclusion drawing. The structural analysis was conducted based on Greimas’s narrative semiotic framework, which encompasses the actantial structure, functional structure, main actant, surface structure and deep structure. The findings reveal that the short story’s structure is divided into four segments: the first segment presents the theme of “Nasik’s victory,” the second highlights “Nasik’s sincerity,” the third explores “the pact between Iblis and Nasik,” and the fourth emphasizes “self-interest.” Furthermore, the study identifies the main actant based on the actants found in these four segments: the principal sender is Nasik’s faith, while the main receiver as well as the subject is Nasik himself, who pursues the object of “upholding the truth.” In this pursuit, he is obstructed by the opposant, namely “Iblis,” and supported by the helpers, namely faith and an axe. Through the above structure, it can be concluded that the narrative of Taufiq al-Hakim’s short story “Iblis Yantashiru” contains unique narrative elements and a structural pattern consistent with A.J. Greimas’s narrative semiotics.
