Abstract

The pusposes of the research was to investigate the students’ perception on the implementation of video viewing to teach target language culture for management students at STIE “Dr. Moechtar Talib” in East Jakarta. The students were in the first year (semester one) during a period of two months in which this study was conducted.The researchers used survey method in this study. Data collection were conducted by taking the test and distributing questionnaires. The data were processed and analyzed by using statistic descriptive, normality test, linearity test, Homogenity test, and hypotheses test. Statistic test uses t test and F test. The research was conducted on 15 November 2014 until 5 February 2015. The research shows that there is not an effect of students perception on the imlementation of video viewing to teach target language culture towards students’ target language competence with the regression analisis: = 88,007 - 0,230 X. Whenever there is a rise in the value of students perception on the imlementation of video viewing to teach target language culture, there will be a decrease in students’ target language competence for 0.230.Keywords: video viewing, target language culture

Abstract

The purposes of the research was to investigate the significant role of lecturer’s characteristics both verbal and non-verbal towards students’ motivation in Indraprasta PGRI University. The students were in the third year (semester six) during a period of two months in which this study was conducted. The researchers used survey method in this study. Data collection were conducted by distributing questionnaires both to lecturers and students. The data were processed and analyzed by using statistic descriptive, normality test, linearity test, homogenity test, and hypotheses test. Statistic test uses t test and F test. The research was conducted from second week of March until fourth week of June 2015. The research shows that there is not an effect of lecturer’s characteristics towards students’ motivation with the regression analisis: Y= 43,923 + 0.322 X. Whenever there is a rise in the value of lecturer’s characteristics, there will be a decrease in students’ motivation for 0.322.Key words: lecturer’s characteristics, students’ motivation

Abstract

The purposes of the research are to investigate and find out how English community in Pare Kediri is built, what the techniques used to make the community speak English without any reluctance, and how the community in Pare Kediri acquires English. The research was conducted from January 22nd to 25th 2013 in Pare Kediri, East Java which is famous as “Kampung Inggris”. There are approximately134 English courses in Pare sub district, this research focused on observing and distributing questionnaire in Pelem village. This study employed a case study method, and the data were collected by ways of observations, questionnaires, and interviews. Based on the research findings, English community in Pare Kediri is built because there are more than 100 English courses in that sub district only. In addition, mostly English courses implement some techniques as drilling, singing, debating, and playing games and also outing class as one of their learning programs. These teaching techniques make learners are active and creative. Finally, the community in Pare Kediri acquires English by using it as their daily communication and having discipline and commitment to obey the rules implemented by English courses there.Key words: Language Acquisition, English Community, and Speaking.
