Abstract

The research aimed to monitor surface water quality by using water quality index NSF-WQI and accurate biotic index of benthic macroinvertebrate. This study was conducted in September to November 2012 in some water tourism destinations in three regencies, i.e. Jember (three sites), Pasuruan (one site), and Malang (one site), East Java, Indonesia. Each site consisted of three stations (upstream, middlestream and downstream). Reference upstream and middlestream were located in the Meru Betiri National Park (MBNP) Jember. Water quality and benthic macroinvertebrates sampling were conducted in each site. While physical-chemical data consisted of TDS, DO, pH, NO3-N, TP and temperature were analyzed to determine the NSF-WQI index. Macrozoobenthic data were analyzed to determine three diversity indices and 11 biotic indices. Results showed that based on parameter of DO, TP, NO3-N, TDS and pH, water quality in downstreams were generally lower than upstreams. Upstream to middlestreams of two sites in Jember were good to excellent based on NSF-WQI water quality and biotic indices. Therefore, the water were qualified as drinking water resources and also served as safe recreational water. The accurate biotic indices to surface water quality in this study were % EPT, ASPT, HBI, FBI and % Gastropodes.Keywords: biotic indices, benthic macroinvertebrates, water quality index, water tourisms destination

Abstract

Background: Research related to the existence and diversity of Gastropod species in the Alas Purwo National Park is still very minimal, especially in mangrove forests. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of gastropods in the mangrove forests of Jatipapak Resort Kucur, Alas Purwo National Park. Methods: This study was conducted from April to December 2020. The method used was purposive sampling by following systematic transects of mangrove vegetation. Results: The results of the research obtained were 420 Gastropods belonging to 6 tribes, 11 genera, and 14 species. The diversity of Gastropods in the mangrove forests of Jatipapak TN Alas Purwo is in the moderate category, this is indicated by a value of 1.966 and the similarity of Gastropods is quite evenly distributed with a value of 0.745. Conclusion: Based on these results, the most common species found was Nerita articulata, while the least species found was Ellobium aurisjudae.

Abstract

The Biosite Pangpang Bay Ijen Geopark (BPBIG) has a high potential biodiversity value outside the conservation area, particularly in the mangrove forest. Namun informasi keragaman ini masih belum sepenuhnya lengkap. Sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan keragaman jenis burung di hutan mangrove BPBIG. The research was conducted on October 2023 using the point count method at six observation points in the mangrove forest. Data analysis was carried out in two approaches, i.e., species composition and species diversity index using Shannon Wiener index (H’). We recorded 39 bird species, consisting of 32 genera and 21 families, in the mangrove forest of BPBIG. There is one bird species that has important conservation status based on the IUCN Red List and National Regulation, namely L. javanicus (a vulnerable and protected species). Furthermore, there are also three migratory birds (T. sanctus, N. phaeopus, and A. hypoleucos) that use the mangrove forest of BPBIG as stopover sites during migration periods. The results of the Shannon Wiener index showed that the bird diversity in the BPBIG mangrove ecosystem is in the medium category (H' = 2.02). Finally, based on these results, it can be concluded that the bird species in the mangrove forest of BPBIG are quite diverse.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPerairan Indonesia memiliki keanekaragaman jenis organisme laut yang beragam dan salah satu contohnya adalah Gastropoda. Gastropoda merupakan hewan invertebrata dari Filum Moluska yang bercangkang tunggal (univalvia) atau tidak bercangkang. Salah satu Gastropoda bercangkang tunggal adalah Cypraea tigris. Cypraea tigris merupakan anggota famili Cypraeidae yang ditemukan hidup pada perairan dangkal hingga laut dalam di wilayah tropis dan subtropis. Biota ini memiliki peran ekologis antara lain sebagai detritivor, omnivor, dan hiperakumulator, serta memiliki peran ekonomis dapat dikonsumsi dagingnya dan dapat diperjualbelikan cangkangnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kepadatan dan pola distribusi populasi C. tigris di ekosistem intertidal Pantai Bilik Taman Nasional Baluran. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode plot-transek dengan cara meletakkan plot pada garis transek. Analisis data menggunakan rumus kepadatan jenis dan Indeks Morisita. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kepadatan populasi C. tigris pada ekosistem ini adalah 0,04 individu/m2 yang tergolong kategori rendah dan tipe pola distribusinya adalah mengelompok.Kata Kunci: C. tigris, Pantai Bilik, Taman Nasional BaluranABSTRACTIndonesian waters have a wide diversity of marine organisms and one example is Gastropoda. Gastropods are invertebrate animals from the Mollusc Phylum that are single-shelled (univalvia) or non-shelled. One of the single-shelled Gastropods is Cypraea tigris. Cypraea tigris is a member of the Cypraeidae family found living in shallow to deep waters in tropical and subtropical regions. This biota has an ecological role, among others, as a detritivor, omnivore, and hyperaccumulator, and has an economic role that can be consumed for meat and can be traded for its shell. This study aims to determine the density and distribution pattern of the C. tigris population in the intertidal ecosystem of Bilik coastal, Baluran National Park. This research was conducted using the plot-transect method by placing plots on transect lines. Data analysis used the species density formula and Morisita Index. The results showed that the population density of C. tigris in this ecosystem was 0.04 individuals/m2 which was classified as low and the type of distribution pattern was clustered.Keywords: C. tigris, Bilik Coast, Baluran National Park

Abstract

Bandealit is one of the resorts in Meru Betiri National Park (MBNP). This area has many endemic floras and faunas affected by the presence of invasive alien spesies plants. These plants tend to give negative impacts on savana ecosystem among them is, Lantana camara L. The distribution of this invasive alien spesies in the savana can be used to provide information about the characteristic of the environment. This study was conducted to investigate the patterns of spatial distribution of invasive alien L. camara population in the Pringtali Resort Bandealit savana region. The characters of plant species morphology was recorded for species name identification and validation. Percent cover of the individual L. camara species was collected within 50 plots (5x5 m2), while each of coordinate species found in the plots was recorded by using GPS (Global Positioning System). Abiotic factors such as temperature, pH, light intensity, and soil moisture were measured within the plots. The location of the data collection is 5,000 m2. The distribution pattern of invasive alien L. camara population was analyzed using ArcGIS and Dispersion Morisita’s Index (Ip). The result showed that 51.7% of L. camara population grew spasially close together (clumped) or overlapped one another based on the ArcGIS. This means that L. camara individuals distributein clumped pattern. While the other individuals (48.3%) grew apart randomly from each other. This distribution pattern showed by Ip value, 0.51 was also clumped or clustered. It can be concluded that the distribution pattern ofinvasive alien species L. camara is clumped because the reproduction of plant was by seeds dispersal or vegetative buds that lived around parental individuals.Keywords: ArcGIS, Lantana camara L., Invasive Foreign Plants, Morisita index, Distribution Pattern.

Abstract

The river is one of the important water sources and at this time the river water quality has decreased.The type of land use around the river is thought to have a significant contribution to river water quality. This research was conducted to determine of correlation between the type of land use and water quality in Rembangan River, Jember Regency.The study was carried out at four stations that passed through secondary forests, coffee plantations, rice fields and residential housing. The data of biodiversity and density of plants and physical-chemical parameters of river water were noted, and benthic macroinvertebratessamples were collected at each station. Data of biodiversity and density plants were used to determine of environmental services index (ESI) values. Benthic macroinvertebrates samples were identifiedat the family level, and after that the tolerance score and the abundance of each family was determined. The last two data were analyzed to determine of Family Biotic Index (FBI) values.The value of ESI, physico-chemical parameters of river waterand FBI were analyzedto determine the relationship between these variables by using Pearson correlation analysis (α < 0.05).The research result revealed that the type of land use (ESI) was significantly related to the biological quality of river water (FBI) as indicated by the p value > 0.05. The correlation characteristic is negative and very strong (R = 0.886). High ESI values indicate that the diversity and carbon sequestration of plant community around the river are in good condition and vice versa. Low HBI values indicate good river water quality and vice versa. Based on this research, each land use type must provide space for the natural growth of the plant communityto maintain the quality of river water to remain good. Abstract

Javan langur (Trachypithecus auratus É. Geoffroy, 1812) is categorized by IUCN as a vulnerable primate species since 2008 and protected under 2018 LHK regulation. They can be found across Java Island, also in the Watangan Puger Nature Reserve (WPNR), East Java. There is no information about the population and habitat characteristics of Javan langur in WPNR except their existence. This research study aims to estimate the population structure, population density, and habitat characteristics of the Javan Langur in the WPNR, within the area of 2.6 ha. Three concentration points for daily observations were determined for 3 days. A combination of concentration count with scan sampling observation method at intervals of 30 minutes every hour of observation was done to get the data of density, position, population structure, and plant species preferred by Javan langurs. The important value, diversity Shannon-Wiener index, and plant species preferred were also analyzed. There are 26 population composed of two groups of the Javan langur occupying an area of 1,118 ha (43%). The population size estimatation for the first group was 17 individuals with a population density of 15.17 individu/ha, while that for the second group was 9 individuals with a population density of 8.02 individu/ha. The twenty-six Javan langurs are composed of complete age structure such as adult 69%, sub-adult 15%, and infant 16%. The Javan langur population was mostly found in the vegetation structure of Syzygium jambos (jambu hutan) to Pithecellobium dulce (asam manila) (IV = 45.47 to 3.88). Total 24 tree species are found in WNPR, most of the trees are used by the Javan langur as food and cover. The tree community in WPNR has medium diversity with value of 2.28. Furthermore, the Javan langur prefer Artocarpus elasticus (bendo) and Syzygium jambos (jambu hutan) at the upper strata (> 15 meters) than other trees and strata. Most of them are actively walking or jumping (locomotion) during the activity observed at the tree community.

Abstract

The Long-Tailed Macaque (LTM) (Macaca fascicularis Raffles, 1821) is a member of the Cercopithecidae which is included in the Vulnerable status. Information on the habitat characteristics of these species is needed to support in-situ conservation efforts. This study aims to determine the habitat characteristics of LTM in Kucur Resort at Alas Purwo National Park (APNP) based on the forest strata occupied by the LTM, Normalizes Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and river distance. The research procedure begins with a preliminary survey to determine the six lines of observation. The data used are primary data (LTM encounter points, forest strata they occupy, and data on tree species where they meet) and secondary data (NDVI variables and river distance). Both data were analyzed using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. The results showed that the LTM at Resort Kucur TNAP was found in four different groups. The results of data analysis show that the habitat characteristics of the LTM in Kucur Resort based on the forest strata it occupies are at a tree height level of 0-30 meters (strata E-B) which has branches, canopies, and produces young leaves and fruits. Furthermore, the LTM habitat has vegetation characteristics with medium density and cover which has an NDVI value of 0.3-0.5. This indicates the character of this habitat is used as a place to rest, socialize, and avoid from predators. Based on the distance of the river, the habitat characteristics are the location which is quite far from the river, which is > 300 meters. Based on the data on the habitat characteristics of LTM, it shows that Kucur Resort provides a fairly good habitat for the LTM.
