Abstract

The global demand for seafood products increased in a dynamic environment. Still, fails to achieve competitive positioning due to labeling, unattractive and unprofitable targeted segments, and less preferred quality and features. Thus, this study tried to create competitive positioning through features, functions, and benefits of seafood product attributes. The results arranged through consumer characteristics, consumer preference with conjoint analysis, market identification and competition with regression analysis, Multidimensional Scaling, and Correspondence Analysis from 206 respondents. The results prove that (i) canned fish, dried fish, and salted fish competed on freshness, durability, and food safety (labels); (ii) shredded fish, surimi, and pedak competed on density, taste, physiological function, and easy-to-use feature; (iii) crackers competed on taste, social function, and psychological function; (iv) shrimp paste competed on shape, color, surface condition, texture, additive content, and chemicals. The implications of the results: (i) transported and packed to processing plants and food storage facilities; (ii) an increase in food diversity, food fortification, and supplementation; (iii) cultural congruence between the product and the market with certain packaging designs, launch timing, and advertising; (iv) several methods of process, such as quick freezing and cook-chilling, pasteurized before packed or retort pouch and natural food additives.

Abstract

The Indonesian government has committed to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. One indicator is poverty reduction. In 2020, the agricultural sector was the primary source of income for 46.3% of poor households in Indonesia, and the 16.2 million fishermen are below the poverty line. West Kalimantan Province is the province with the highest number of fishers on the island of Kalimantan. The welfare of fishers does not follow the significant fishery potential in West Kalimantan Province. Sambas Regency is the second Regency in West Kalimantan Province which has the most considerable number of capture fisheries production and the most significant number of fishers. The fisherman's exchange rate concept compares the value of fisherman's output against the goods and services needed for fishing business purposes and the consumption fisherman households. One way to provide optimal benefits to capture fisheries business is to manage risk. The purpose of this study is to identify the welfare of traditional fishing fishers based on the fisherman's exchange rate and the risks that affect the fishermen's capture fisheries business and formulate strategies to increase the fisherman's exchange rate. The research was design using qualitative and quantitative approaches. As many as 54% of respondents have a fisherman's exchange rate of 0 1. Risks with a high category are damage to fishing gear, unpredictable weather, and the length of time it takes to recede in the fishing area. The risk in the medium type is the low selling price and the decrease in the number of fish resources. Risk can be control by increasing the ability to capture fisheries business management, increasing the use of information technology in the fishing business, and increasing the accessibility of capital for fishers facilitated by the government.

Abstract

There is much inconclusive and unclear literature on understanding the benefits of environmental, social, and economic for the sustainability standards compliance of smallholders. The study aims to build a simultaneous relationship of the sustainable standard in the context of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil toward the benefit of sustainable dimensions using the concept of sustainable development, incentive theory, and the concept of agricultural extension of 150 independent smallholders. The results prove that farmers' organization is the most significant, followed by management of environmental monitoring and sustainable business development. However, legal is insignificant because of thought of as a nice to have. There is limited involvement in practical communities’ instruments so agricultural extension becomes an effort to reconstruct thoughts and actions to promote sustainability, especially social sustainability. Most indicators of sustainable standards toward the benefit of sustainable dimensions indicators are poor, except for fire prevention and control which had a moderately positive effect on the conservation of biodiversity. Thus, an integrated approach to area-based risks management, local institutions with religious and traditional leaders, Community-Based-Fire-Management, conservation area buffer zone, public-private partnerships, enabling conditions to access finance, and resource distribution with budgets and geographic proximity can be an effort to encourage compliance with sustainable standards.

Abstract

Food MSME actors in traditional markets have limited capital so that the government helps MSMEs through the People's Business Credit (KUR) program. However, SMEs in traditional markets have another obstacle, namely the inability to make acceptable financial reports as the basis for providing credit or non-credit from banking institutions or other financial institutions. Financial records are important information for MSMEs such as cash in, cash out, accounts receivable, debt and others. Community service activities are to educate food MSMEs in recording financial transactions, and support government efforts to increase MSME capacity. So there is a need for Community Service Activities that will help improve MSME skills in terms of management, and finance. This community service activity is carried out by providing information through counseling, demonstrations, and technical guidance. This service activity is in the form of financial recording skills both manually and in applications. The results of this community service activity can help MSME actors to understand financial records both manually and by application.

Abstract

Sustainable production by independent oil palm smallholders links to the creation of goods and services using processes and systems that are resource-conserving, economically viable, and socially and creatively rewarding for all working people and consumers. However, there is limited efficiency in financial management and low resource allocation for rural finance operations to support the development of rural economies. This study tried to prove whether household financial management promotes rural development using the theories of transaction cost, financial transaction management, public expenditure management, and a rural development framework. This research was conducted in Sambas District, West Kalimantan, using a mixed method with purposive sampling and structured questionnaires administered to 200 independent oil palm smallholders. Multidimensional scaling and a structural equation model were employed to analyze the data. The results unveiled that household financial management promoted rural development due to its effects on accessibility and infrastructure for market opportunities, basic and public services, and governance regarding participation in agriculture meetings and training by the government. Governance emerged as the most direct effect of rural development as it contributed to livelihoods, community-based economic empowerment, human resources, and rural environmental problems. Operational and risk management came as the most influential factors in household financial management. Government played a role in engaging smallholders in supply chains, access to inputs, and households’ transition in confronting a variety of yields, unstable output and input prices, and changes in production technology. Innovative multi-actor collaborations were required to reinforce and provide a cloak for policy decisions.

Abstract

Millennial farmer' management decisions are influenced by their agribusiness competencies. Farmers are constantly faced with decision-making on what and how to produce it. Both controllable internal and uncontrollable external factors constrain farmers' decision-making process. Meanwhile, millennial farmers will need to act as the driving force of agriculture in the future. Millennial farmers require sufficient agribusiness skills to manage their farms effectively. This study examines the competencies of millennial farmers in agribusiness, their managerial decision-making process, and the relationship between these competencies and organizational decisions. The agribusiness competency variables studied are based on agribusiness subsystems, including input supply, production process, product processing, marketing, and supporting subsystems. This study included all millennial farmers in Kubu Raya Regency. The sample was determined to be 150 samples using purposive sampling. A selected sample of millennial farmers aged 19-39 years old.  The analysis used interval class category analysis with three categories: good, moderate, not good, and Spearman rank correlation analysis. Results of the analysis show that millennial farmers have moderate agribusiness competencies and managerial decision-making processes. There is a strong positive correlation between agribusiness competencies and managerial decision-making processes. The government should enhance millennial farmers' agribusiness skills by providing infrastructure, facilities, and marketing, finance, and product processing training while collaborating with academics to develop technology and innovation.
