Abstract

Etnik Melayu kaya dengan kesenirupaannya, khususnya dalam bentuk ragam hias. Secara tradisi, ragam hias Melayu banyak terungkap melalui arsitekturnya, di samping pada produk pakai lainnya. Yang menarik sekarang adalah adanya trend penerapan ragam hias tradisional Melayu pada bangunan modern di Kota Medan, Indonesia. Artikel ini mengkaji, sejauhmana identitas Melayu kembali menguat di Kota Medan. Selain itu, artikel ini juga mengkaji bagaimana potensi teknis dan estetis yang terkandung dalam karakteristik ragam hias Melayu. Pembahasan dilakukan melalui pendekatan sosiologi seni dan metode visual cultural. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Bentuk dan karakteristik ragam hias Melayu yang banyak diterapkan pada bangunan modern di Kota Medan merujuk pada bentuk pucuk rebung, ricih wajid,lebah begantung, terali biola, bidai, dan tampuk pinang; 2) Potensi teknisnya didukung oleh karakteristik ragam hias Melayu yang berbentuk terawang, dan potensi estetisnya terungkap melalui bentuk permukaan yang rata dengan garis motif yang tajam; dan 3) Identitas Melayu melalui penerapan ragam hias terungkap pada bangunan perkantoran, tempat umum, lokasi wisata, dan fasilitas umum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe how the cover of the student press magazine Dinamika State Islamic University of North Sumatra applies magazine cover design based on the principles of layout, typography, and color selection and images. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The subject of this research is the student press magazine Dinamika UIN SU edition 29 to edition 50 with a total of 15 magazine covers using purposive sampling technique. The results of this study explain the number of magazine covers that apply the very good category layout principle as many as 5 covers (33%), 5 good (33%), 3 good enough (20%), and 2 cover (14%) less good. The application of the principles of typography in very good categories was 4 covers (27%), 6 good (40%), 1 (6%) good enough, and 4 covers (27%) not good enough. Color selection for very good categories was 7 covers (47%), good 3 (20%), good enough 4 (27%), and less good as many as 1 cover (6%). In the selection of images, there were 3 covers (20%), 6 (40%), 2 (14%) good enough, and 4 (27%) not good. Overall, the results of this study concluded that the quality of the application of the principles of layout, typography, colors, and images on the cover design of the UIN SU student press magazine Dinamika was categorized as quite good.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of the preservation of traditional North Sumatra ornaments, by revitalizing. The steps are 1. Resocializing traditional North Sumatra ornaments to the next generation, 2. Display ornaments in the form of cutting stickers, and 3. Apply the cutting sticker on the outer surface of the food jar. Research methods conducted: 1. re-record the traditional ornament forms of North Sumatra, 2. determine the selected ornament as a sample, 3. re-design the shape of the ornament with a computer, 4. Apply the design to cutting sticker, 5. identify the shapes of the jar to be applied ornaments, 6. sticking cutting sticker on jar, 7. socialize jar products to the community through exhibitions. The results of the study were obtained forms of ornaments that were modified and obtained various forms of traditional Ornate jars of North Sumatra as a product of local genius.Keywords: revitalization, traditional ornaments, cutting stickers. AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efektivitas pelestarian ornamen tradisional Sumatera Utara, dengan dengan cara melakukan revitalisasi. Langkah-langkahnya yaitu: 1. mensosialisasikan ulang ornamen tradisional Sumatera Utara kepada generasi penerus, 2. menampilan ornamen dalam bentuk cutting sticker, dan 3. mengaplikasikan cutting sticker tersebut pada permukaan luar toples makanan. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan : 1. mendata ulang bentuk-bentuk ornamen tradisional Sumatera Utara, 2. menetapkan ornamen yang dipilih sebagai sampel, 3. meredisain bentuk ornamen dengan komputer, 4. Mengaplikasikan desain menjadi cutting sticker, 5. menidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk toples yang akan diterapkan ornamen, 6. menempelkan cutting sticker pada toples, 7. mensosialisasikan produk toples kepada masyarakat melalui pameran. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini menghasilkan sebuah buku Kosa Rupa yang berisikan himpunan-himpunan gambar dengan menganalogikan bahwa Kosa Rupa sama halnya dengan Kosa Huruf, hal ini akan mempermudah guru dan anak dalam menggambar seperti memahami kosa huruf. Guru dan peserta didik akan mudah menggambar apabila menguasai Kosa Rupa ini, dan akan menyelesaikan semua permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh guru ketika mengajarkan tentang menggambar kepada peserta didik, dalam kondisi inipun peserta didik juga lebih mudah memahami dan mempraktikkan cara menggambar yang baik dan benar. Sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu guru kelas Sekolah Dasar (SD). Pelaksanaan penelitianpun dilakukan secara blanded dan luring. Berdasarkan indikator penilaian dalam penelitian ini diperoleh hasil sebagai berikut, hal ini dapat dilihat dari segi aspek komposisi gambar yang dihasilkan berada pada rentangan skor 83,8, kemudian dilihat dari aspek bentuk gambar yang dihasilkan mencapai skor 84,89, selanjutnya dari segi warna dari gambar yang dibuat berada pada nilai 85,56, maka hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan serta keberhasilan pada setiap indikator penelitian tentang pemanfaatan buku Kosa Rupa dengan rata-rata pencapaian 84,75.Keywords: Kosa rupa, Sekolah Dasar

Abstract

This research aims to develop teaching materials in the form of digitalisation of Toba Batak Ethnic Decorative Variety with p-book and e-book-based procreate media that are valid, practical, and effective in the Fine Arts Department. This research method uses research and development with the 4-D development model (Four-D Models), namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. This research instrument uses a questionnaire with a Likert scale, while the data analysis technique consists of analysing the validity, practicality and effectiveness of teaching materials. The results of this study indicate that: a) p-book and e-book-based teaching materials with the title of the book/module/teaching material "Gorga Batak Toba", with the acquisition of a category that is quite valid with an average score of 78%, b) teaching materials are quite practical to be used by students in the North Sumatra Ethnic Decorative Variety Course (RHESU) with a score of 77%, and c) teaching materials fall into an effective category where students from four categories such as reading teaching materials, asking questions, answering questions, and completing assignments given by lecturers, can be observed in the learning process and student learning outcomes are 83.26%. So, from the scores and test results of the research results above, it can be said that the teaching materials are quite valid, quite practical, and effective to be applied in learning the North Sumatra Ethnic Decorative Variety Course (RHESU) at the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Medan.

Abstract

Medan City, as the center of the Deli Malay Sultanate and the colonial administration in the past, boasts numerous iconic forms. The distinctive characteristics of these iconic forms hold significant potential for development as references in creating contextual texture painting art. Unfortunately, this potential remains largely unexplored. Therefore, this research aims to explore the potential of iconic forms in Medan City with the goal of developing them as references for the creation of textural painting art as a tourism product for Medan City. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, conducted both in the field and in the studio. The methods employed include surveys and creative creation, applying Graham Wallas' theory of creativity. Research data is collected from various sources using relevant techniques, subjected to data triangulation, and analyzed following an interactive model: data reduction and presentation, verification, and drawing conclusions. The research results indicate that the potential of iconic forms as references for abstract textural painting art emerges from their representation of Medan City's character, alongside the dynamic nature they embody. The exploration of abstract textural art becomes tangible during the painting process, which, in this study, involves deformative processes, particularly simplification and stylization. Abstract textural painting art is explored based on the principles of visual art and tourist art, resulting in artworks that possess both aesthetic and technical qualities as tourism products.
