Abstract

In this study, the researcher analyzed the curriculum for the Phonetics course in four Indonesian universities considering the book "Al-Idha'at" by Abdul Rahman Al-Fawzan. Specifically, the study focused on analyzing the course objectives, content, teaching, and learning strategies outlined in the curricula of these four universities. This research is a qualitative desk study with a descriptive-analytical comparative approach. The study found that theoretical or cognitive aspects dominate most teaching objectives for this course. The course content is predominantly theoretical, emphasizing theoretical knowledge over practical skills. Furthermore, most teaching strategies for the course heavily rely on lectures, discussions, questions and answers, and the distribution of assignments, with minimal emphasis on pronunciation exercises for Arabic sounds that are absent in Indonesian phonetics. To address these issues, the researcher suggests complementing the existing strategies in the curriculum with the teaching approach outlined by Abdul Rahman Al-Fawzan in his book "Al-Idha`at," which includes three vocal exercises.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in higher education has an important role in shaping students' linguistic competence, especially in Islamic-based institutions. However, its implementation in practice often faces challenges that affect the teaching-learning process. This article aims to analyze the problems of Arabic language learning in higher education, identify the source of the problems, and offer solutions to the learning that is carried out. This analysis uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach by following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. This article screened 20 articles from Scopus and Google Scholar indexed journals published between 2018-2024. The results of the analysis show that there are four main problems, first the low competence of lecturers in applying learning methods, second the lack of utilization of educational technology in the learning process, third the limitations of teaching materials, fourth the low motivation of students in learning Arabic. These findings indicate that learning Arabic requires new approaches, such as the integration of digital-based technology, continuous training for lecturers, and the provision of teaching materials tailored to the needs and interests of students. The four results of this analysis are expected to provide insights for curriculum development and more effective Arabic learning methods. For future researchers, it is hoped that the results of this analysis can be the main reference and for lecturers, curriculum developers and policy designers in overcoming the challenges of learning Arabic in higher education and improving the quality of graduates who have superior linguistic competence.

Abstract

The study of Islamic boarding schools has its dynamics and uniqueness. As an Islamic educational institution, the response of Islamic boarding schools to the issue of Covid-19 has had a sizable social impact in shaping the mindset and religious actions of the surrounding community. This study reveals the dynamics and theological struggles within Islamic boarding schools in response to the policy of handling Covid-19 in Mandailing Natal. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, the data informants are residents of Islamic boarding schools consisting of leaders, clerics, students, and the community around the Islamic boarding school. The results of this study found that there were three styles of thinking in each Islamic boarding school in response to the handling of Covid-19, namely conservative, semi-conservative, and non-conservative. In general, Islamic boarding schools accept government policies in dealing with Covid-19, but in practice, Islamic boarding schools tend to ignore the rules. The clerics who are pro in handling Covid-19, provide theological enlightenment to the students and the surrounding community. On the other hand, the clerics who are resistant to handling Covid-19, give the view that Covid-19 is a game by the political elite in government. However, in this case, the resistant kyai did not provoke the students and the community.

Abstract

While numerous studies have highlighted the benefits of AI in language education, the research examining its effectiveness through the lens of personality factors remains limited. Individual personality traits shaping how learners perceive and utilize technology play a critical role in AI-based learning outcomes. This study investigated the relationship between personality traits and AI efficacy in Arabic language learning, framed within the Big Five Personality Traits model (extraversion, openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and neuroticism). Through a qualitative survey approach, the data were collected from 27 university students with prior Arabic learning experience (2–4 years) and AI familiarity. Participants included 26 students (96.3%) from pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) and 1 student (3.7%) from a madrasah, all of whom completed questionnaires assessing their perceptions of AI’s role in learning across personality dimensions. Findings reveal that AI enhances learning comfort, adapts to diverse styles, improves grammatical and lexical mastery, and boosts motivation while fostering traits like independence, diligence, and creativity. However, its effectiveness depends on users’ digital literacy, intrinsic motivation, and capacity for reflective learning. The study highlighted the necessity of personalized AI integration in language education, emphasizing adaptive pedagogical support to address individual differences. These insights contributed to the discourse on AI-driven education by bridging personality psychology with technology-enhanced learning, offering practical implications for designing inclusive and effective AI tools in higher education.

The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research and development research method. The result of the research showed that there is found Bayani style in Arba'in hadith. Its beauty lies in the short, firm, hyperbolic expressions in expressing meaning, proper word choice and touching personification, depicted in terms of aqidah, shariah and morals. The developed textbook is characterized by a rhetorical appreciation of Arbain's hadith text without leaving an explanation of Balagah's rules. The Bayan Science textbook products developed are valid in terms of content, design and language.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly influenced the lifestyle and behavior of young people, including in moral aspects. Online gaming, as one of the most popular forms of digital entertainment, is often associated with both positive and negative behavioral changes among adolescents. This study aims to examine how online gaming habits influence changes in adolescents’ morals and to identify possible solutions to these moral issues. This study employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, using data obtained from in-depth interviews with twenty informants, including parents, school teachers, and community leaders. The informants were selected through purposive sampling. The interview data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman analysis model. Overall, the findings reveal five negative impacts of online gaming habits on adolescents’ moral development: i) laziness, ii) disobedience to parents, iii) selfishness, iv) temperamental behavior, and v) dishonesty. The results of this study can serve as preliminary data for future research examining similar issues in different contexts and topics.
