Abstract

One of the less maximal factors of  science learning is that teachers are less innovative in packaging the learning so that students become passive and less interested in science learning. It can have the impact on low interest student learning and outcomes, so that innovative is need in science learning, one of them by applying Somatic Auditory Visualization Intellectually (SAVI) learning model. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of SAVI learning model on the science learning in grade V of SDN Lawatan 01 Tegal Regency. Experimental design used was Quasi Experimental in the form of nonequivalent control group design. The result of hypothesis testing of effectiveness to nature science learning interest showed that thitung > ttabel (8,272 > 2,074) and the result of learning showed that thitung > ttabel (8,325 > 2,074). It can be concluded that the implementation of SAVI learning model is effetive on the interest and learning outcomes of social science student of grade V on the subject of  the characther of light.

Abstract

In industrialization era, human activities have a global impact on the environment. Natural phenomena begin to occur, one of which is climate change. Rising sea-levels, warming earth temperatures, and air pollution are the actual impacts of climate change. The study aimed to explain how climate change is portrayed in An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power Film. In addition, this study also tried to investigate the adaptations carried out by Al Gore as the main character in responding to climate change. This study is descriptive qualitative research. The study used ecocriticism theory (By Garrard, 2004) to explain the representation of climate change and the adaptation of the main character to climate change. Data obtained from An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power Film by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk was released in 2017. The results of the data analysis showed the representation of climate change in the film through issues covering three aspects, apocalypse, pollution, and earth. These three aspects significantly impact human life, particularly health, economy, and environment. In addition, adaptations made by the main character in responding to climate change can be analyzed through environmentalism and deep ecology. The main character responded to environmentalism by building self-awareness of environmental concerns, and he created a training program to build awareness of human beings. Meanwhile, in deep ecology, he suggested switching to renewable energy to meet human energy needs to be more environmentally friendly and reduce the effects of greenhouse gases and pollution.

Abstract

This research discusses the needs of a character named Brianna Jackson in On the Come Up novel by Angie Thomas. The theory applied for the study is the hierarchy of needs theory proposed by Maslow and characterization theory by Kenan. Under the umbrella of qualitative research, this study uses the psychological criticism approach to find out whether Brianna is able to fulfill all her needs and her character portrayal based on how she fulfills her needs. Living as a struggling sixteen year-old girl always challenges Brianna to attain even her most basic needs. The analysis reveals that Brianna manages to satisfy her physiological need, safety need, love and belongingness need, and esteem need. However, her self-actualization need is failed to be fulfilled due to some of Brianna’s actions being unfit as a self-actualizing person. Out of fifteen required characteristics in self-actualization, there are only five of them that are found in Brianna. The other eight characteristics were unfulfilled since they contradicted with Brianna’s behavior. Meanwhile, the other two were not reflected. Nonetheless, the exploration of her actions in fulfilling her needs also unveils the way Brianna’s character is portrayed in the novel. It turns out that Brianna is an argumentative, impulsive, confident, and determined character who always tries her best in securing her needs no matter how hard things get for her.

Abstract

This study formulated the following problems: (1). How is the depiction of patriarchy in “Perempuan Keumala” novel by Endang Moerdopo? (2). How is the form of patriarchal reconstruction in in the novel according to Karen Horney’s theory of psycho feminism? Those research problems aim to find out the correlation between patriarchal forms of culture experienced by women and the patriarchal forms that appear in the novel. This study uses Qualitative Descriptive analysis method. It is a method in which researchers attempt to describe what they have read according to the primary and secondary data sources. The researchers use Karen Horney’s theory of psycho feminism which stated that women’s resistance is generated from their parenting style and social environment.  Women’s resistance is psychoanalytically divided into three forms: moving towards people, against people, and moving away from people. Those movements cause women to have several self-defense mechanisms: displacement, sublimation, identification, and repression.
