Abstract

As the 21st century progresses, there is a growing emphasis on equipping students with essential skills, including writing, which is considered crucial to master. Online writing has become particularly significant in fostering this skill, as advanced technology enhances classroom activities and creates new opportunities for interaction between lecturers and students. This study aimed to assess the levels of six types of interaction, identify the forms of interaction students value most, determine the forms most frequently conducted by lecturers, and explore the benefits of these interactions in an online writing course. This study utilized a sequential explanatory design involving 122 respondents. Data were collected using two research instruments: a questionnaire and interviews. The findings revealed that respondents demonstrated two preferences for a high level of interaction, both of which showed a notable increase in the six forms of interaction. Among these, four types of interaction were perceived by students as playing a critical role in their online writing activities. However, only three forms of interaction were identified as being frequently implemented by the lecturer, reflecting an emphasis on student-centred learning. Each type of interaction was acknowledged as contributing distinct benefits to the students. This study underlines the importance of adopting diverse and student-centred interactions in online writing courses to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Along with technological developments in the world of education, teachers are expected to always learn and adapt to technological developments so that the learning process in the classroom is more interesting. Apart from that, the teacher's ability to master and apply competencies in the field of technology, especially in the field of education, can help teachers develop learning materials and media so that they are always relevant to current developments. However, problems were found faced by teachers at the SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa Singakerta Ubud where their competence regarding the use of technology and teaching techniques was still not optimised. For this reason, the community service team provided the solutions that can be implemented by the community service team to solve the problems faced by partners. There is a solution that has been agreed upon, namely conducting socialization, training, and assistance in implementing the Flipped Classroom for the teachers as community service participants. The results of this community service activity show an increase in the teacher’s knowledge and understanding of implementing Flipped Classroom. Moreover, they gave a positive response to the activities provided by the community service team.

Abstract

Recent research indicates that generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) such as ChatGPT has great potentials to support English as a foreign language (EFL) preservice teachers (PSTs) to develop their technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) during their studies in teacher education programs (TEPs). How these PSTs view academic integrity while using GenAI and apply it for TPACK development are still unknown. Looking at the above gaps, this study aimed at exploring how EFL PSTs use GenAI to develop their TPACK and perceived academic integrity. This study recruited eight EFL PSTs in an Indonesian public education university using a basic qualitative methodology. This study employed semi-structured interviews and researchers’ notes to collect the data. The data in this work was analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. The results revealed that participants used AI for language skill development and for content creation as well as task assistance. The results also showed that they knew the potential risks of GenAI on academic integrity, had their own strategies for maintaining academic integrity when using GenAI, and had good impressions of academic integrity in AI-assisted learning. This study drew several theoretical and practical implications to support the application of GenAI in TEPs.
