Abstract

Understanding the dynamics of acquiring Arabic speaking skills is crucial in the context of Islamic universities, where language proficiency is integral to academic success and personal development. This study aims to explore the process of acquiring Arabic speaking skills from Stephen Krashen's perspective at two undisclosed Islamic universities in Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study design, the research employs interviews with lecturers and students as the primary data collection technique. The analysis is conducted descriptively, involving stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Arabic speaking skills are acquired through two main approaches. Within the classroom, intensive learning is facilitated through a direct method emphasizing language practice, supported by a curriculum focused on daily themes and language reinforcement programs. Outside the classroom, students engage in active communication in Arabic in various environments, such as dormitories, mosques, and cafeterias, while participating in activities that support language acquisition. These factors, combined with student motivation and a conducive learning environment, significantly contribute to the acquisition of Arabic speaking skills. The study concludes that the different learning approaches at the two universities effectively enhance students' Arabic speaking proficiency. Key factors contributing to successful language learning include the presence of Arabic language environments, appropriate curricula, active learning methods, individual motivation, and practical experiences outside the classroom, such as internships or student exchange programs. The research suggests that educators and students should focus on creating immersive language environments and incorporating practical experiences to maximize language acquisition.

Abstract

This study explores the transformation of Arabic language learning through technology-based media at STAIN Bengkalis, particularly within the Arabic Language Education Study Program. Employing a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, this research focuses on students’ lived experiences in engaging with technology-integrated learning environments. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, involving students who have previously taken part in technology-supported learning activities. The findings indicate that students generally hold positive perceptions toward the use of digital platforms such as Canva, Kahoot, CapCut, and Quizizz, as these tools enhance engagement, interactivity, and learning motivation. The integration of such media is perceived to make the learning process more dynamic and student-centered, contributing to improved comprehension and participation. Nevertheless, the implementation of technology-based learning also encounters several constraints, including limited access to adequate devices, unstable internet connectivity, and restricted data quotas, all of which can disrupt the continuity of learning. Despite these challenges, the study concludes that technology exerts a significantly positive influence on Arabic language learning. Strengthening institutional support through improved technological facilities and systematic training for both students and lecturers is recommended to optimize the effectiveness of digital-based learning in the future.

Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed higher education, including Arabic language learning. This study critically examines the role of AI, particularly large language models, in reshaping learning processes, focusing on pedagogical, cognitive, and epistemological dimensions. Using a qualitative library research approach, this study analyzes recent scholarly works (2020–2025). The findings show that AI enhances access to linguistic input, enables personalized learning, and provides immediate feedback that improves learning efficiency. However, it also introduces challenges such as cognitive dependency, reduced depth of critical thinking, and concerns over knowledge validity, especially in Arabic learning, which is closely linked to Islamic intellectual traditions. The study further reveals that AI is more effective in supporting reading and writing skills than speaking and listening, due to the absence of authentic social interaction. From an epistemological perspective, AI cannot replace the interpretative authority of teachers. This study proposes a hybrid learning model that positions AI as a cognitive support tool rather than a substitute for human instruction, emphasizing the need for balanced integration between technology, pedagogy, and academic integrity.
