Abstract

Abstract

Daily Living Skills (ADLS) are essential for the independence and overall development of children. However, for children with autism, these skills often present significant challenges. This quantitative study examines the factors influencing the development of ADLS in autistic children, with a focus on gender, parental self-efficacy, and grandparent involvement. A total of 96 children with autism, aged 4 to 8 years, were recruited from therapy centers and special education schools in Indonesia. Two instruments were used for data collection: a parental self-efficacy scale adapted from Bandura's theory, and the WeeFIM Scale developed by Slomine to assess children’s ADLS performance. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between parental self-efficacy and the development of children’s ADLS, indicating that higher levels of parental confidence are associated with better daily functioning in children. Gender differences were also found, with girls outperforming boys in ADLS mastery. Interestingly, children raised in dual-caregiving environments involving grandparents demonstrated lower ADLS performance compared to those raised primarily by their parents. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening parental self-efficacy through targeted training and support programs. The study also emphasizes the influence of cultural practices, particularly the role of extended family in caregiving, which may impact children's skill development. Future research should further investigate the mechanisms through which grandparent involvement affects ADLS and explore these dynamics using longitudinal designs and cross-cultural comparisons. This study advocates for culturally responsive interventions that support both parents and extended family members in nurturing the daily living skills of children with autism.

Abstract

Student mental health is facing a growing crisis, with rising rates of psychological distress and suicide reported among university populations in Indonesia. This study investigates the influence of three key psychosocial factors—family health, psychological well-being, and social support—on student mental health. A total of 140 university students were selected using an accidental sampling technique. Mental health was assessed using the GHQ-28, psychological well-being was measured with the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB), social support was evaluated using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and family health was assessed through the Family Health Scale–Long Form. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine both the individual and combined effects of the predictor variables on student mental health outcomes. The results revealed a significant combined effect of family health, psychological well-being, and social support on student mental health (p = 0.000, R = 0.620, R² = 38.4%). When examined individually, family health (p = 0.000) and psychological well-being (p = 0.049) were significant predictors, while social support was not (p = 0.405). However, a post-hoc analysis showed that family-based social support had a statistically significant impact on student mental health (p = 0.001). The novelty of this study lies in its holistic approach, which integrates three major psychosocial predictors within a culturally grounded framework while emphasizing the need for university-based mental health screening systems. The findings underscore the critical role of campuses as supportive microsystems in promoting student mental health through preventive strategies, early detection, and responsive programming. Developing a psychologically safe and inclusive learning environment is essential to improving students’ overall well-being.

Abstract

This study investigated the association between gratitude and religiosity among members of Islamic study groups (majelis taklim) in Indonesia. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design (N = 154), participants completed an 8-item Indonesian Gratitude Questionnaire derived from the GQ (McCullough et al., 2002) and its 11-item Indonesian adaptation (Grimaldy & Haryanto, 2020) and a modified 34-item Centrality of Religiosity Scale adapted for the Indonesian Islamic context (Huber & Huber, 2012; Purnomo & Suryadi, 2018). Simple linear regression examined the gratitude–religiosity relationship. Results showed gratitude was significantly associated with overall religiosity (β = .463, p < .001, 95% CI [1.11, 2.09]), explaining 21.4% of the variance (R² = .214). These findings suggest gratitude is meaningfully linked to religiosity in majelis taklim communities within collectivist Islamic contexts. Faith-based community programs and majelis taklim facilitators may consider integrating structured gratitude practices (e.g., brief reflective exercises, gratitude journaling, or group sharing) as a complementary strategy to strengthen religious engagement and social cohesion, while future studies should test causal mechanisms using longitudinal or intervention designs.

Abstract

Mental health crises among college students are on the rise, characterized by high levels of depression, anxiety and stress. This study aims to examine the influence of loneliness and problematic internet use (PIU) on students' mental health by understanding the role of family resilience as a mediator and resilient coping as a moderator. The research participants consisted of 666 students in Jakarta, Indonesia, selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected through use of the Loneliness Scale, Problematic Internet Use Scale, Family Resilience Scale, Resilient Coping Scale and Mental Health Scale. The analysis was based on the moderation regression model, using the Hayes test to assess the correlation between the variables, and the mediating effects of family resilience and the moderating role of resilient coping. The results show that loneliness (b = -.522, p < .01) and PIU (b = -.351, p < .01) had a significant negative effect on mental health. Family resilience mediated the relationship between loneliness and mental health, while loneliness reduced family resilience (b = -.230, p < .01) and family resilience improved mental health (b = .414, p < .05). Meanwhile, resilient coping had no direct effect on mental health (b = -.147, p > .05), but played a significant role as a moderator in the relationship between PIU and mental health (b = .020, p < .05). The findings emphasize the importance of interventions that strengthen family resilience and students' coping ability to maintain mental health amid increasingly complex social and digital pressures.
