Abstract

This community service program was implemented to address the low level of halal certification among food and beverage MSMEs in Gejlig Village, which has the potential to weaken business competitiveness. The Free Halal Certification Program (SEHATI) was chosen as a strategic solution to enhance MSME capacity while promoting the Halal, Safe, and Healthy Culinary Zone (KHAS). The objective of this program is to improve the knowledge, technical skills, and administrative capabilities of business actors, enabling them to meet halal and thayyib standards consistently. The method employed was Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving MSMEs, village government, BUMDes, academics, and halal inspection institutions in the planning, training, mentoring, and evaluation processes. The results show that most MSMEs completed the stages of socialization, technical training, administrative mentoring, and field verification, with 66.7% achieving halal certification. Beyond improving technical competence and administrative literacy, the program also fostered collective community awareness of the importance of the halal culinary ecosystem. Therefore, the SEHATI Program has proven effective in accelerating the transformation of MSMEs into competitive halal businesses and supporting the realization of Gejlig Village as a sustainable KHAS Zone.

Abstract

The economy can be stimulated by functional food entrepreneurship, which involves using local ingredients to create healthful and economically beneficial products through the combination of nutritional knowledge and resources available in the community. The primary objectives of this research are to investigate entrepreneurship prospects by analyzing the desires and opinions of consumers regarding locally produced functional foods, and also to devise sustainable strategies for small and medium-sized businesses. Purchasing decisions are influenced by the level of trust in health claims and the affordability of products. Based on these findings, the study suggests three business strategies: (a) using a local supply chain model to make sure there is a steady supply of raw materials, (b) offering different types of products with varying prices to reach more customers, and (c) helping small businesses improve their ability to research and develop products using scientific evidence.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of E-Bukuku, a flipbook-based digital pocketbook on balanced nutrition, in improving nutrition knowledge among elementary school children. The study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design conducted at Purin Muhammadiyah Kendal Elementary School. A total of 162 students aged 7–9 years were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention was delivered through a structured nutrition education session. Students were guided by the researcher or classroom teacher to interactively explore the E-Bukuku flipbook through page navigation, illustrations, question-and-answer sessions, brief discussions, and practical examples to reinforce balanced nutrition messages. After the session, students were given time to independently review the material before completing the posttest using the same questionnaire as the pretest. Nutrition knowledge was measured using a structured questionnaire integrated with the E-Bukuku content. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, as the paired pretest and posttest data did not meet the normality assumption. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in nutrition knowledge following the intervention, with mean scores increasing from 55.30 ± 8.12 at pretest to 82.75 ± 6.45 at posttest (p < 0.001). In conclusion, the use of E-Bukuku significantly improved balanced nutrition knowledge among elementary school children. E-Bukuku can be considered an innovative digital-based nutrition education medium. This study provides preliminary evidence supporting the effectiveness of flipbook-based digital nutrition education and offers insights for future large-scale interventions.

Abstract

The phenomenon of prediabetes is increasingly being found in adolescents. Prediabetes in adolescents can cause various negative impacts both in the short and long term. Limited knowledge regarding nutrition and high consumption of sugary drinks are strongly related to the high number of prediabetes cases among adolescents. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of adolescents through empowering adolescent nutrition ambassadors and peer education in prediabetes prevention efforts. The activity was carried out at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Weleri in two forms: intensive training for 8 adolescent nutrition ambassadors, and peer education by adolescent nutrition ambassadors to 78 other students using interactive educational methods, simulations, demonstrations, practice, and discussions. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests in each session. The results showed that there was an increase in adolescent knowledge and skills after the activity. The conclusion of this activity is that adolescent empowerment through intensive nutrition ambassador training and peer education is effective in increasing adolescent knowledge and skills as a strategy for preventing prediabetes.

Abstract

Abstract

Background The prevalence of stunting in Kendal Regency remains relatively high. Risk factors that may increase the likelihood of stunting include nutritional knowledge and feeding practices. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional knowledge and feeding practices with the incidence of stunting among children aged 24–59 months. Method A total of 143 mothers of under-five children participated in this cross-sectional study using a proportional sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires on nutritional knowledge and feeding practices, as well as children’s nutritional status data obtained from the Child Health Card (KMS). Fisher’s exact test with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05 was used to analyze the data. Results A total of 24.5% of children were categorized as stunted. Mothers with good nutritional knowledge accounted for 77.6%, and 67.8% had appropriate feeding practices. No significant relationship was found between nutritional knowledge and the incidence of stunting (OR = 0.964; 95% CI = 0.388–2.396; p = 1.00), and no relationship was found between feeding practices and the incidence of stunting (OR = 0.881; 95% CI = 0.393–1.975; p = 0.836). Conclusion Nutritional knowledge and feeding patters are not associated with incidence of stunting in toddlers in the Patebon 2 Kendal Puskesmas Working Area.
