Abstract

The United States' war on terror effort, which began after the devastating assaults on the World Trade Center (WTC) and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, has lasted until now. Even under Trump's presidency, U.S. foreign policy toward the Muslim world, particularly in the Middle East, has had little impact on global political stability. The latest tensions between the U.S. and Iran have proved that the "war" is still ongoing. This study aimed to analyze Donald Trump's speech concerning all of his statements referred to Iran's nuclear weapons and the related issues in the Islamic world. It also sought to investigate Donald Trump's explicit/stated and implicit/unstated agenda on Iran and the Islamic world. This research engaged with Qualitative Case Study as its framework and NVIVO Pro 12 application (Computer-Assisted Analysis) for its linguistic inquiry. As long as the United States' foreign policy toward the Muslim world stays intact, Iran will not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, and neither will all Islamic countries. The term "terrorist" was a great strategy for reason to interfere in a country to carry out its main agenda.

Abstract

The readers prefer to read the abstract in order to find out the contents. It has to be short, easily read, and understandable. It consists of complete elements or components. The aimed of this study were to reveal the components of abstract and to find out what were patterns of moves. The researchers used descriptive qualitative approach because this study focused on the analysis or interpretation of the written material in context. Quirkos Application was used to sort, manage, analyzed and understand the data. From the results that already exist, there are thirteen procedures of writing abstracts used by writers in Indonesian International Journals Indexed Scopus. Those were I, IP, IR, IPR, IRD, IMR, PMR, PMD, IMRD, PMRD, IPMR, PIRM, and IPMRD. There are limitations in this research that have to be considered. First, this corpus consists of abstracts in only areas of Indonesia. Second, further research is necessary to determine the variables that affect the writers’ model in writing an appropriate abstract. Thirdly, the researchers only analyzed 47 abstracts.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study aimed to determine the effect of using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Method on the reading skills of students at UTM Mataram. The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental research design in which the researcher placed two different groups and gave them different treatments. The sampling technique used random sampling with a total of 20 students. The research instrument used pre-test and post-test. The data analysis technique used a t-test. And the research result is that there is a positive and significant effect. The experimental group of this study was taught using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Method, while the control group of the study was taught using the conventional reading method. The results of the pretest and posttest were found to be satisfactory with the level of achievement of the median homogeneity of 0.449> 0.05, the normality test of 0.715 greater than 0.05, and the results of the t-calculation to determine the effectiveness of the CIRC Method of 0.449> 0.05, which shows that this method was able to boost the effectiveness of student learning. At the end of this study, hopefully, the results of this study can benefit all education stakeholders such as teachers, students, scholars, and even other researchers to support them in creating and analyzing creative and innovative language teaching methods. The researcher expects that the findings of this research can provide some evidence about cooperative language teaching, in this case, the CIRC Method to support the improvement of the teaching and language learning process at UTM Mataram in particular.

Abstract

This paper focused on analyzing Grice’s maxim as stated in Levinson’s Pragmatics between sellers' and buyers’ conversations during buying and selling activity at the Sasak traditional market in Praya City. The data was collected by recording the speech event using a digital voice recorder and then transcribing the utterances literally. The analysis is done by the pragmatic identity method, then the result is presented using the informal method. The findings reveal 83 instances demonstrated the fulfillment of maxims and 25 exhibited the flouting of maxims. Importantly, participants tended to adhere to maxims more often than deviate from them. Overall, the research indicates adherence to cooperative principles by the speech participants from both the sellers and the buyers to state what they mean clearly and briefly so the conversation flows smoothly. But they also flout the cooperative principles to indirectly send their meaning of utterances. Any utterance they deliver is based on the psychological process that follows principles of normative, behavioral, motivational, and cognitive.
