Abstract

This study was conducted to ascertain the challenges encountered by English teachers in Berlian Salon and Spa. One of the job training institutions in Central Lombok is Berlian Salon and Spa where this institution has been established since 2016 until now. This institution has several majors, including hospitality and spa therapist, which are currently the most popular majors. The institution always gets grants from the government to train underprivileged people to become entrepreneurs in the field of spa therapists. There are numerous challenges in learning English in Institution. The difficulties encountered were related to the status of the curriculum for English learning in institution, the students’ competency, and the students’ motivation regarding to the socioeconomic status of students and the family. Case study designs was chosen to help academics investigate, explain, characterize, assess, and speculate about complicated situations in context by answering a variety of questions about why, what, and how they happen. In -depth understanding of behaviors, processes, practices, and relationships in context can be gained through outcomes. Observation and interview were the instruments used by the researcher to collect the data.

Abstract

PKM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan para anggota kelompok dalam bidang teknologi informasi dan meningkatkan kemampuan kelompok dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa inggris. Permasalahan pertama yang dihadapi oleh kelompok sadar wisata sendang gile adalah terbatasnya pengetahuan kelompok sadar wisata sendang gile dalam menggunakan teknologi informasi khususnya dalam bidang pariwisata. Permasalahan yang kedua adalah terbatasnya kemampuan kelompok sadar wisata dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa inggris. Metode yang digunakan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut adalah dengan mengadakan pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada kelompok sadar wisata tentang pemanfaatan teknologi informasi pada sektor pariwisata seperti pembuatan video untuk promosi desa wisata, pelatihan digital marketing melalui sosial media dan pelatihan pengelolaan website sebagai media promosi desa wisata senaru. Selain itu, pada kegiatan ini diadakan pelatihan dan pendampingan bahasa inggris khususnya penggunaan bahasa inggris dalam bidang pariwisata. Setelah mengadakan pelatihan teknologi telah dilakukan evaluasi kepada seluruh peserta sehingga dihasilkan 90% peserta mampu membuat video promosi desa wisata yang ditunjukkan melalui tugas membuat video setelah pelatihan selesai. Sedangkan pelatihan bahasa inggris dilakukan evaluasi dengan memberikan beberapa pertanyaan kepada peserta dan hasilnya seluruh peserta mendapatkan nilai yang berkisar antara 80 – 85 sesuai dengan hasil evaluasi pada akhir acara pelatihan. Setelah acara pelatihan selesai dilakukan pendampingan bagi peserta yang membutuhkan pembinaan dalam membuat video promosi, digital marketing, pengelolaan website dan bahasa inggris, sehingga kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dapat bermanfaat bagi kelompok sadar wisata sendang gile Desa Senaru Kecamatan Bayan kabupaten Lombok Utara. Human Resources Development of the Sendang Gile Tourism Awareness Group, Senaru Village, Bayan District, North Lombok Regency This PKM aims to improve the abilities of group members in the field of information technology and improve the group's ability to communicate using English. The first problem faced by the Sendang Gile tourism awareness group is the limited knowledge of the Sendang Gile tourism awareness group in using information technology, especially in the tourism sector. The second problem is the limited ability of tourism awareness groups to communicate using English. The method used to resolve this problem is by providing training and assistance to tourism awareness groups regarding the use of information technology in the tourism sector, such as making videos to promote tourist villages, digital marketing training via social media and training on website management as a promotional medium for Senaru tourist villages. Apart from that, this activity provides English language training and assistance, especially the use of English in the tourism sector. After holding technology training, an evaluation was carried out on all participants so that 90% of participants were able to make promotional videos for tourist villages, which was demonstrated through the task of making videos after the training was completed. Meanwhile, the English language training was evaluated by asking several questions to the participants and the result was that all participants received scores ranging from 80 - 85 according to the evaluation results at the end of the training event. After the training event is completed, assistance is provided for participants who need guidance in making promotional videos, digital marketing, website management and English, so that this community service activity can be useful for the Sendang Gile tourism awareness group, Senaru Village, Bayan District, North Lombok Regency.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM dalam bentuk KKN mahasiswa ini bertujuan menjembatani pengetahuan teoretis dengan penerapan praktis mahasiswa dalam menghadapi tantangan dunia nyata dan meningkatkan pengetahuan serta keterampilan masyarakat di desa Bunut Baok kabupaten Lombok Tengah. Secara khusus, KKN ini bertujuan memecahkan masalah mitra di desa Bunut Baok kabupaten Lombok Tengah. Pemecahan masalah yang diberikan mencakup pelatihan desain grafis dan manajemen situs web yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi teknologi masyarakat dan pegiat UMKM. Kegiatan ini dapat dikatakan telah mencapai keberhasilan sesuai ekspektasi yang dapat dilihat dari meningkatnya pengetahuan dan ketrampilan mitra meskipun terdapat tantangan yang tidak signifkan seperti hambatan teknologi.

Abstract

The curriculum, a governmental initiative within the educational sphere, evolves in response to societal shifts and advancements in science and technology. This research employs qualitative methods to generate descriptive data on the educational curriculum as a visible social construct. This social construct is then scrutinized through the lens of public policy theory. The study concludes that the curriculum, as a political measure by the Indonesian government in education, logically follows societal evolution and scientific progress. Over the period from 1999 to 2013, there have been three iterations of the curriculum: the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK), the Education Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP), and the 2013 Curriculum (K-13). Each curriculum emphasizes distinct focal points and objectives. The government's revisions to the curriculum, guided by public policy theory, aim to meet the evolving needs and interests of the community. This ensures that the curriculum remains responsive to the changing social dynamics and advancements in science and technology within Indonesia and globally.

Abstract

Central Lombok Regency is one of the regencies in NTB Province which is included in the category of underdeveloped areas. Many community empowerment programs are carried out for individuals and groups through empowerment programs according to community needs. Many programs run by the government require a pattern of partnerships with non-government parties carried out by non-formal educational institutions. The Entrepreneurial Skills Education Program (PKW) is an educational service for courses and training to provide knowledge, skills, and foster an entrepreneurial mental attitude in managing self-potential and the environment that can be used as provisions for entrepreneurship. LKP Berlian Eduacation Training College is a part of non-formal education that is very active and plays a role in providing knowledge of entrepreneurship skills and attitudes for the people of Central Lombok.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk (1) memberikan sosialisasi dan edukasi tentang objek wisata dengan menggandeng Dinas Pariwisata Lombok Tengah, (2) memberikan pelatihan bahasa Inggris sebagai tour guide (English for tourism) kepada para pengelola, dan (3) memberikan pelatihan dan pendampingan dalam mempromosikan daerah desa wisata yang dikembangkan dengan memanfaatkan Teknologi Informasi. Metode yang dilakukan dalam pelatihan ini adalah ceramah, diskusi dan tanya jawab. Peserta kegiatan ini telah diikuti oleh anggota Pokdarwis Desa Bunut Baok, Lombok Tengah, yang saat ini berjumlah 5 orang anggota pokdarwis desa bunut baok. Pelatihan dilaksanakan pada bulan September tahun 2022. Hasil yang didapat adalah para peserta menunjukkan kemajuan khususnya pengetahuan Pokdarwis mengenai pengaplikasian bahasa Inggris sebagai salah satu media untuk menarik minat wisatawan asing dalam rangka mendeskripsikan tempat-tempat wisata yang ada di Desa Bunut Baok dan juga Penerapan Teknologi Informasi dalam memporomosikan desa wisata melalui Website, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram dan media social lainnya.

Abstract

This study aims at identifying and analyzing linguistic and textual errors in writing narrative texts committed by male and female students of the fourth-semester English department students. The focus is on finding the significant differences between male and female students in terms of the frequencies of linguistic and textual errors in their narrative texts and the factors contributing to the errors. Data were collected through writing tests. Data were analyzed and interpreted by quantitative descriptive analysis and multivariate analysis using Two Ways ANOVA (F-Test) to investigate the significant differences linguistic and textual errors. Then the types of linguistic and textual errors in the two groups of male and female students were compared using descriptive analysis and statistical analysis. The results show that 57.93% of linguistic errors occurred in female’s narrative writing, with 42.07% occurred in male’s. Meanwhile, 46.29% of textual errors occurred in female’s narrative writing, with 53.71% found in the male’s. Statistically, there was no significantly different interaction between male and female students in terms of textual error frequency in writing narrative text, with p = 0.975 (p > 0.05) at the level of significance a = 5 %. And there was a significantly different interaction between male and female students in terms of linguistic error frequency in writing narrative texts, with p = 0.029 (p < 0.05) at the level of significance a = 5%. Several factors that affect female and male students’ errors in their narrative text are intralingual interference, language transfer, lack of knowledge about the narrative text, and gender difference.

Abstract

This study delves into the vibrant phenomenon of code-mixing in Instagram captions created by students, exploring how they seamlessly blend Indonesian and English. This research provides fresh insights into bilingual expression in a digital context by focusing on the specific types of code-mixing used and the underlying factors driving its adoption. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study analyzed Instagram posts from Berlian Education Training College students aged 18 to 25, focusing on 11 participants with higher English proficiency. The data collection technique used in this study is the documentation technique. The researcher documented natural data obtained from utterances posted on Instagram. The findings reveal a distinct insertion pattern: English words are strategically placed at Indonesian sentences' beginning, middle, or end. Factors influencing this linguistic blend include bilingualism, social background, vocabulary range, context, and interaction dynamics. This research sheds light on how young bilingual speakers creatively navigate their linguistic repertoire to communicate and connect on social media.
