Abstract

One way that mild mentally retarded children have good gross motor skills and perform good movement activities is through adaptive physical education learning with game modifications. Therefore, it is necessary to make modifications to the volleyball game that can improve gross motor skills. The method used is research & development by Borg & Gall. The instrument used is an assessment using 2 scales consisting of according to the value of 1 (one) and not in accordance with the value of 0 (zero). Where this assessment is assessed by homeroom teachers, learning experts and volleyball experts. With a small group trial subject, namely class IV students, totaling 10 students. While the subject of the large group trial, namely students in grades V-VI, totaled 23 students. The product of this development is a game modification for mild mentally retarded children which contains 8 models of the "Moka Monan" game modification, namely: (1) Strategy Formulation, (2) Reading Strategy, (3) Defense Formation, (4) Attacking Formation, (5 ) Making Enemy Traps, (6) War Training, (7) Arms Training, (8) Joint Training. The results of the assessment of gross motor skills by learning experts, volleyball experts and teachers obtained an average result of 88.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) learning model on students’ physical education learning motivation in short-distance running material for fifth-grade elementary school students. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 21 fifth-grade students at UPT SD Negeri 16 Sei Balai. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling. The research instrument was a physical education learning motivation questionnaire consisting of 35 statements using a Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS Statistics 27 through the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, and paired sample t-test. The results showed that the average score of students’ physical education learning motivation increased from 102.38 in the pretest to 128.00 in the posttest. The result of the paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest after the implementation of the TGfU learning model. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) learning model is effective in improving students’ physical education learning motivation in short-distance running material at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the technical proficiency of the Gyaku Tsuki punch during kumite among karate athletes at Jambi Karate Club (JKC) using Dartfish video analysis. A quantitative descriptive observational design was applied. The population comprised all competitive athletes observed in the study setting, and total sampling was used, resulting in six athletes (n=6). Data were collected through video-recorded kumite bouts and an observation checklist that decomposed Gyaku Tsuki into 20 key performance indicators: guard readiness, stance execution and transition, body alignment and stability, hip rotation, punching trajectory, elbow extension, target direction (chudan), gaze control, and recovery to guard. Each item was scored dichotomously (correct=1; incorrect=0) and summed into a 0–20 total score, then classified using predefined norm intervals. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and percentage distributions. Results showed that 2 athletes (33.33%) achieved a “very good” category (17–20) and 4 athletes (66.67%) achieved a “good” category (13–16), with no athletes in moderate, poor, or very poor categories. In conclusion, overall Gyaku Tsuki execution during kumite was good, yet targeted technical refinement and pressure-specific practice are recommended to improve consistency and scoring effectiveness. Keywords: karate; kumite; gyaku tsuki; technique analysis; Dartfish

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical fitness levels and the occurrence of shortness of breath and hypothermia risk among novice climbers on mount sibayak, karo regency, north sumatra. The research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design and a cross-sectional method. The sample consisted of 60 university students aged 20–24 years who participated in community service (kkn) activities and conducted mountain climbing. Physical fitness was measured using the harvard step test, shortness of breath was assessed using the borg dyspnea scale, and hypothermia risk was evaluated through body temperature measurements and clinical symptom observations. The results showed a strong negative correlation between physical fitness level and shortness of breath (r = -0.682; p = 0.001), and a moderate negative correlation between physical fitness and hypothermia risk (r = -0.543; p = 0.004). In addition, a moderate positive correlation was found between shortness of breath and hypothermia risk (r = 0.516; p = 0.007). These findings indicate that higher levels of physical fitness are associated with lower risks of respiratory disturbance and body temperature decline during mountain climbing. This study recommends the implementation of pre-climb physical fitness training and physiology-based safety education programs to enhance preparedness and safety among novice climbers in extreme environments.
