Abstract

Poverty is one of the most complex problems in a country's economy, including in a region. Therefore, efforts to reduce poverty must be carried out comprehensively. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the unemployment rate, the Regional Minimum Wage (RMW), and the Human Development Index (IPM) on the poverty rate in the districts of Bantul, Sleman, Gunung Kidul, Kulon Progo, and the City of Yogyakarta in 2015-2019. The analytical method used is panel data regression random effect models (REM). This study indicates that the unemployment rate, regional minimum wage, and HDI simultaneously affect the poverty level. Partially, the unemployment rate is positively and not significantly correlated with the poverty rate.

Abstract

ASEAN and Canada agreed to establish cooperation as ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This cooperation aims to strengthen economic relations between ASEAN and Canada by eliminating tariff barriers for almost all of trade in goods. Therefore, this study aims to calculate how big the effect of the ASEAN-Canada FTA trade agreement on the macroeconomic conditions of ASEAN member countries. The analysis method used is Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model using Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) version 9A. This cooperation is expected to reduce trade barriers in all sectors, particularly tariff reductions as a representation of declining trade barriers in both ASEAN and Canada. This study analyse two trade policy scenarios by 50% and 100% (full liberalization) tariff reduction. The simulation results show that all ASEAN member countries get the benefit from full liberalization or a 50% tariff reduction on welfare except Laos and Philippines. In addition, this cooperation also can increase the real GDP in all ASEAN member countries and trade balance for Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar and Canada. It also has negative impacts on inflation and investment for some ASEAN member countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Thailand.

A panel regression techique was applied, using fixed effects to estimate the relationship between capitalstructure and bank-specific variables such as growth, profitability, bank size and asset structure. The results indicates thatasset structure is statistically significant in determining the capital structure of islamic rural banks in Indonesia, comformingto the pecking order theory, trade theory, costs bankruptcy theory as well as the agency theory. However, growth is notsignificant in affecting the bank capital structure. Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between real GDP, real exports, and FDI inflows in 6 ASEAN countries from 2000 to2019. The purpose of this study is to construct strategies about export-led growth, growth-led export, FDI-led growth, andvice versa. Furthermore, the strategies can be applied by policymakers. The Granger causality panel approach revealed thatonly Vietnam has a two-way causality relationship between real GDP and real exports. Malaysia does not find a causalrelationship between real GDP and real exports, and for the rest, there is only a one-way relationship between real GDP andreal exports. This study employs the dynamic panel approach to examine the trivariate model: real GDP, real exports, andFDI inflows. The results show that the study found growth-led exports and growth-led FDI. This study implies that aneconomy fully supported by economic growth is sensitive to global dynamics and trade changes. Thus, it can affect exportactivities and the investment climate.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the comparison of potential halal product exports in several ASEAN countries and several Islamic countries outside ASEAN. Commodities used in this study consisted of meat, coffee, dairy products, sugar, cereals and fruits. To support the purpose of this study, the data used were sourced from the UN Comtrade with a research period from 2009 to 2019. The countries sampled in this study consisted of Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and India. This study found that Indonesia has an advantage in terms of coffee commodity. This can be seen from the RCA value of 4.29. Meanwhile, for the commodities of fruits and nuts, Indonesia had the smallest specialization index value, namely 0.95. Indonesia's strongest competitors in ASEAN are Malaysia and Thailand for commodity sugar products and dairy products. However, when analyzed by including India, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, it shows that India is the strongest competitor and controls market share. Furthermore, when compared to ASEAN countries, Indonesia's commodity exports still dominate the market share compared to the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam. It can be concluded that Indonesia's export products still have the ability to compete and have a high market share in ASEAN +3. If Indonesia intensively provides the halal label, this will not only increase exports but also to meet the needs of Indonesian citizens who are predominantly Muslim.

Globalization that took place in the last few decades has caused various changes in the world economic order. This effort was also carried out by Muslim countries with the aim of improving economic relations and coordination at the regional level so that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was formed. This study analyzes the comparative advantage and trade patterns between Indonesia and the OIC countries which are limited by 10 OIC member countries which have the largest average export value from Indonesia over the last ten years. These countries include Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. Data analysis in this study uses a quantitative approach. In this study, statistical software tools will be used, namely Microsoft Excel to calculate RCA, RSCA and also trading patterns of the 10 OIC countries with the largest trade volume, Indonesia tends to have a comparative advantage in products of Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage (HS 15) and Man-made staple fibers (HS 55) where these products are products that have a comparative advantage in the ten countries. Indonesia managed to maintain the same comparative advantage in 2005 and 2020 against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where the superior product group in those 2 years was exactly the same and only changed its ranking position.

It is important to know because the banking condition in the future can be seen and predicted through its financial performance. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the profitability of Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia. This study uses quantitative methods with panel data regression estimates during the 2015Q1-2020Q4 period at 5 Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia, namely BRI Syariah Bank, BNI Syariah Bank, BCA Syariah Bank, Mega Syariah Bank, and BTPN Syariah Bank at 5 Syariah Commercial Banks. in the period 2010-2019. The variables used are ROA, CAR, NPF, FDR and BOPO. Stages of panel data to select the best model required several tests, namely the Chow test, Housman test and LM test. Next, it is necessary to test the classical assumptions in the form of heteroscedasticity test, multicollinearity test and autocorrelation test. The results showed that simultaneously the independent variables CAR, NPF, FDR and BOPO had a significant effect on profitability (ROA). Partially, the CAR and NPF has insignificant effect on profitability (ROA). Then, the FDR variable partially has a positive and significant effect on profitability (ROA). The BOPO variable has a negative and significant effect on profitability (ROA).
