Abstract

Writing is an activity that is beneficial for both school and university students. Writing activities for students can facilitate the ability to innovate and be creative in expressing ideas or ideas. Scientific Writing (KTI) is one of students' competencies in writing. Mentoring students to write KTI has been carried out at SMU Al Muayyad Surakarta. The implementation of the KTI writing training activities for Al Muayyad High School students went well and received full support from the school. All training activities were attended by trainee students until the end of the activity with an enthusiastic attendance of 100%. In the process of mentoring activities, the participants were enthusiastic to ask questions, share ideas, and express opinions. This activity is an ongoing activity that will involve accompanying teachers to optimize their role in the preparation of scientific papers for students

Abstract

This study examined (1) the brain dominance pattern and language learning approaches, (2) the role of brain dominance toward each category of language learning strategies, (3) whether there was a significant difference, and (4) the effect. The participants in this study were 99 students in Universitas Veteran Bangun Nusantara by random sampling. Language Learning and Brain Dominance Questionnaires collected data. The brain dominance score and language learning strategies score were calculated and analyzed by analysis of variance to investigate any difference between brain dominance and learning strategies. The result: (1). The highest mean students’ language learning strategies use was cognitive strategies (2) Each language learning strategy category differed significantly between left, whole, and right-brained students. (3) Left-brain and whole-brain effects on student language learning strategies were the same. (4). Students' learning tactics vary by brain type.

Abstract

This research concerns the analysis of slang in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up, My Humps. The are two objectives in this research, namely to tell types of the slang appeared in this song, and to explain the meaning of slang. This analysis use descriptive method due to the fact that this research describe the meaning of the slangs. The data were taken from the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps. The researcher uses document and records method to gather the data which is by taking note of the slangs appeared in this song, then classifying them by their types, after that explaining their meaning, the researcher analyzing the meanings of the slang using an American Slang Dictionary and the researcher also asked the help of a Native American in analyzing the meanings of slang, finally, give a conclusion. The researcher found there are 37 total data of slangs in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps. Then there are 37 total data of the meaning of slangs in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps.

Abstract

This research used a descriptive qualitative method used to analyze data. Figurative language was analyzed based on theories from Perrine which involves: simile, metaphor, personification, apostrophe, synecdoche, metonymy, symbol, allegory, paradox, hyperbole, understatement, and irony. This research purposes to find out the types of figurative language, to know the most dominant and the submissive figurative language and to reveal the purposes meaning of figurative language used in poetry by Maya Angelou with title Life Does Not Frighten Me, Equality, and Alone. The data source from poetry collection by Maya Angelou with titled ‘Life Does Not Frighten Me’, ‘Equality’, and ‘Alone’. The techniques of collecting data used by the researcher are documentation via internet. The data was analyzed through four stages: a) Coding, b) Data Reduction, c) Data Display, and d) Conclusion. The researchers concluded the result of this research were 39 poem lyric that containing 11 figurative languages types. The dominant figurative language types is Hyperbole and the submissive figurative language is Paradox and Irony. The researchers found 11 purposes meaning of figurative language that can reveal new predictable to force readers to imagine what writer wants to express.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to analyze the types of refusal expressions employed by the characters, to determine the strategies that used in each type of refusal expressions and to know how the refusal expressions is expressed in the movie entitled “The Clique”. This research is basically a conversation analysis. This research is a qualitative research. The sources of data in this research were selected script dialogs of the conversations in the movie. The conclusions are: (1) There are 20 dialogues containing refusal found in the movie entitled “The Clique” in which 12 dialogues are direct refusal and 8 dialogues are indirect refusal; (2) There are six strategies that used; (3) The characters in the movie express directly and indirectly. The characters perform the refusal directly because they want to convey the meaning of what they say explicitly. On the other hand, the characters choose to perform the refusal indirectly because they want to maintain a harmonious relationship with whom they talk, make one’s language more/less interesting, increasing the force of one’s message, and competing goals.

Abstract

Community service carried out at LPQ At-Taqwa aims to strengthen institutions, increase the number of students and build synergy between guardians and LPQ At-Taqwa to achieve learning objectives. The implementation method of this community service program is to increase children's learning interest through the provision of free uniforms and interesting learning methods. The recitation of students and guardians is packaged in a recitation that presents special missionaries for children. The results of community service activities that have been held with LPQ At-Taqwa are: 1) Increase the number of students to 60 students. 2) Recitation activities with students and guardians. 3) Planning training activities for LPQ management and teacher in developing Quran teaching methods
