Abstract

The learning of Islamic Cultural History (Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam/SKI) in schools still tends to be informative, teacher-centered, and lacks active student involvement, resulting in underdeveloped historical thinking skills, critical thinking, and students’ socio-cultural awareness. This condition indicates the need for a more contextual and interactive learning approach so that history is not merely understood as a sequence of events, but as a meaningful social process. This study aims to examine the application of Lev Vygotsky’s sociocultural revolution theory in Islamic Cultural History learning and its relevance to students’ cognitive and social development. The research method employed is a literature study by analyzing various scientific sources, including books, articles, and journals that discuss Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory and the practice of Islamic Cultural History learning. The findings indicate that the application of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) concept, scaffolding, social interaction, the use of language, and cultural artifacts can lead to more contextual, collaborative, and dialogical Islamic Cultural History learning. This approach encourages students to actively understand history and relate it to real-life contexts, while also instilling Islamic cultural values and character. Therefore, it can be concluded that Lev Vygotsky’s sociocultural revolution theory is highly relevant for application in Islamic Cultural History learning to enhance students’ critical thinking skills, historical awareness, and overall learning quality.

Abstract

The development of neuroscience makes a significant contribution to the world of education, especially in understanding how students' brains work and respond to the learning environment. Learning environments that include physical, social, and pedagogical aspects have been shown to influence brain activity as well as student learning motivation. This study aims to systematically examine the relationship between neuroscience, learning environment, brain activity, and student learning motivation in the context of education. The research method used is library research by examining various primary and secondary sources in the form of scientific journals and relevant books. Data analysis techniques are carried out qualitatively through text and discourse analysis with an inductive approach and theoretical triangulation to maintain the validity of the data. The results of the study show that neuroscience-based classroom management, positive social interaction between teachers and students as well as between students, and the implementation of learning strategies that are in accordance with how the brain works can improve cognitive activity, emotion regulation, and intrinsic motivation of students. However, the application of neuroscience in learning still faces various challenges, such as limited teacher understanding, lack of training, and not being optimally integrated neuroscience in the curriculum. Therefore, continuous efforts are needed to improve teacher competence and the development of neuroscience-based learning models so that the learning process becomes more effective and meaningful.

Abstract

Children with mild intellectual disabilities have intellectual limitations that affect their cognitive, social, and language development, but they still have potential that can be developed through an appropriate educational process. Developing language skills is an important aspect because language serves as a tool for communication as well as a means for thinking and social interaction. This study aims to analyze the implementation of social interaction in developing the language abilities of children with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Ma’arif Bantul based on Lev Vygotsky's sociocultural theory perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews with teachers, and documentation of learning activities. Data analysis is conducted thematically with reference to the concept of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and scaffolding. The results of the study indicate that social interaction between teachers, students, and the school environment plays an important role in enhancing the language abilities of children with mild intellectual disabilities, particularly in vocabulary mastery, reading skills, and functional speaking. The teacher acts as a mediator by providing guidance, examples, and repetition according to the child's abilities. However, in its implementation, there are challenges such as differences in students' abilities, difficulty understanding abstract material, unstable emotions in children, and social jealousy. Overall, the application of social interaction based on Vygotsky's sociocultural theory has been proven effective in developing the language skills of children with mild intellectual disabilities, although it still requires adaptive and sustainable learning strategies.

Abstract

This research explores the urgency of psychological aspects within the primary education environment through a comprehensive analysis of the implementation of esteem needs fulfillment among students at SD N 1 Bantul, Yogyakarta. Adopting Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as the theoretical framework, this study aims to dissect how the need for self-esteem and recognition is integrated into daily pedagogical practices. The focus of the study is directed at three main pillars: identifying the various modalities of providing rewards implemented by educators, the significance of its impact on the escalation of learning motivation and the crystallization of students' self-concept, and mapping the determinant factors that serve as systemic supports or barriers in the implementation process. Methodologically, this research employs a qualitative design with a case study approach to gain a profound understanding of psychosocial phenomena within the school environment. Data were collected through triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the findings, encompassing non-participatory observation of classroom dynamics, semi-structured interviews with key informants (teachers and students), and curatorial documentation studies related to students' achievement records and behavior. Informant selection was conducted using purposive sampling to ensure the representation of relevant and contextually rich data. All collected data were subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes the phases of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study are expected to provide a holistic overview that the fulfillment of esteem needs is not merely about giving praise, but is a strategic instrument in shaping students' mental resilience and positive character. The findings also identify challenges such as limited pedagogical understanding regarding reward variations and family environmental factors that influence the effectiveness of strengthening students' self-concept at school.

Abstract

Waste management remains a serious environmental issue in various regions, including Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). The low level of public awareness and participation in waste management demonstrates the need for an educational approach that is not only technical but also social and cultural. This study aims to analyze the application of the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) concept in community-based waste management education at the Krapyak Peduli Sampah Community, Ali Maksum Islamic Boarding School, Krapyak, Bantul. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation methods. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the application of the ZPD principle through social interaction, mentoring between residents, and practice-based learning can increase awareness, skills, and participation of students in waste management. The learning process takes place collaboratively through guidance from senior students, Islamic boarding school administrators, and reinforcement of local religious and cultural values. These findings indicate that a community-based sociocultural approach is effective in developing sustainable ecological behavior. Thus, the application of the ZPD concept can be a relevant educational strategy in community-based waste management.

Abstract

This research focuses on improving students' skills in understanding the Quran and Hadith by implementing a contextually oriented learning strategy based on Piaget's cognitive theory. The methodology used involves library research, where information is gathered from various sources, including books, journals, and scientific articles. A contextual approach is believed to connect the material taught to students' real-life experiences and experiences, making learning easier to understand and apply in everyday life. The findings of this study indicate that the use of a contextual approach plays a positive role in improving students' understanding and motivation in the Quran and Hadith subject. Furthermore, this approach also contributes to improving students' abilities through a better understanding of the values contained in religious texts. By connecting religious teachings with everyday experiences, it is hoped that students can internalize Islamic values in their lives. The conclusion of this study confirms that the contextual approach is not only effective in improving the quality of Quran and Hadith learning but also very beneficial in supporting the goal of religious education to build student character in line with Islamic teachings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of Carl Rogers' humanistic learning theory in encouraging self-actualization of Students with Special Needs (PDBK) amidst the challenges of the mental health crisis. The main focus of the study was deaf students at the Marsudi Putra 2 Pandak Special Needs School in Bantul, D.I. Yogyakarta. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of Rogers' three pillars—unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence—served as the foundation for resilience for students. Teachers at the Marsudi Putra 2 Pandak Special Needs School adopted the role of facilitators and parental figures to create a safe space that was able to minimize the gap between students' real and ideal selves. The instructional strategies used included the Maternal Reflective Method (MMR), visual methods, lip reading, and total communication aimed at enriching vocabulary and training students' emotional stability. Despite facing challenges such as student learning boredom and complex verbal communication barriers, this humanistic approach proved effective in building a positive self-concept. Integrated social support between teachers, parents, and peers is a crucial factor in directing students' psychological energies toward self-actualization and the development of fully functioning individuals.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of Abraham Maslow’s humanistic theory in the learning process of Islamic Education (PAI) to enhance students' self-awareness and responsibility. Challenges such as moral crises and individualism demand a shift in PAI instructional methods, moving from mere cognitive knowledge transfer to a more humanistic approach. The methodology employed in this study is descriptive qualitative with a library research approach. Data were collected through the documentation of relevant literature and analyzed using content analysis and source triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the application of Maslow's hierarchy of needs in PAI creates a student-centered learning environment, where the fulfillment of basic needs (physiological, safety, and love/belonging) is a prerequisite for achieving self-actualization. The integration of art therapy methods proved effective as a medium for creative expression and strengthening the internalization of religious values and social empathy. Supporting factors include the teacher's role as a facilitator and an inclusive school environment, while hindering factors include a rigid academic orientation and limited teacher pedagogical competence in humanistic approaches. This study concludes that Abraham Maslow's humanistic approach can cultivate a holistic Muslim character through a balance of emotional, spiritual, and social aspects.
