Abstract

Purpose: This work aimed to analyze the profiles of amino acids in the ficin enzyme isolated from Ficus aurata (Miq.), and to determine the efficiency of these amino acid concentrations under two types of drying – solar drying and freeze drying. Methodology: The enzyme ficin was obtained from fig tree, and the presence of amino acids was determined by UPL chromatography. The applied methods of drying were solar and freeze. However, the primary objectives were aimed at investigating the influence of these treatments on the level of amino acids present in all the samples. Results: The findings indicated that freeze drying techniques retained more amino acids in figs than was observed in the case of solar drying. In particular, the amount of L-glutamic acid in freeze drying was 2.39 mg/g, while that of solar drying was 1.43 mg/g. Similar results were observed in L-lysine and L-aspartic acid, which were relatively higher in freeze drying than solar drying, with concentrations of 2.43 mg/g and 2.55 mg/g, respectively, as opposed to 0.99 mg/g and 1.76 mg/g in solar drying. Besides, freeze drying showed better L-serine, L-phenylalanine, and L-histidine preservation. Findings: It was observed that freeze drying gave the best opportunity to reduce the loss of amino acid of the ficin enzyme. The drying method, in particular, resulted in a concentration of some important amino acids like L-glutamic acid, L-lysine, L-aspartic acid, L-serine and L-phenylalanine, and L-histidine as compared to solar drying. Novelty: This study focused on different types of solar energy and freeze energy economic systems in enzymatic activities in the ficin enzyme extracted from Ficus aurata (Miq.). The novel contribution of this research lies in its objective, which is to show how the drying methods used affected the retention of the most influential and critical amino acids in the enzymatic processes. Originality: The novel aspect of the study was the attachment of ultra vortices to different drying techniques, such as solar drying and freeze drying in select ficin enzymes from Ficus aurata. It opens up a new perspective toward the development of drying parameters for the enhancement of important enzymatic characters from this particular variety. Conclusion: This research considers the changes in amino acid content during the drying of ficin enzyme from Ficus aurata through different drying methods. It is shown that freeze drying enhances the retention of critical amino acids and is thus one of the most efficient methods for the enzymatic processing of this plant species. Type of Paper: Empirical research paper.

Morphological, proximate, and bioactive compound characteristics of three local avocado (Persea americana) varieties from Solok District, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 26: 5360-5370. This study compares the morphological characteristics, proximate composition, and bioactive compound content of three local avocado (Persea americana) varieties from Solok District, West Sumatra: Mega Merapi, Mega Paninggahan, and Mega Gagauan. The methods used include exploratory research for morphological observations with 30 samples per variety. In addition, chemical analysis was conducted using the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with three replications. The variables observed were proximate, total sugar, tannin, and phenol. Data processing was carried out using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that Mega Gagauan had the most significant fruit weight (480.66 g) and fruit flesh (382.69%), as well as the highest water content (72.95%) and fat (4.79%) in the fruit seeds. The fruit flesh of this variety contains the highest carbohydrate (10.64%), fat (6.61%), and ash content (1.03%), with a low water content (81.02%). In comparison, Mega Paninggahan has a fruit height (12.44 cm) and seed weight (64.98 g) that are superior to the other two varieties, with carbohydrate content (27.84%), protein (1.91%) and ash content (1.28%) in the fruit seeds and protein (2.10%) in the fruit flesh that are higher than the other two varieties. Mega Merapi stands out with the highest water content (85.65%), polyphenol (102.64 mgGAE/g), and total sugar (20.60%) in the fruit flesh, while the fruit seeds contain tannin (0.61%) and polyphenol (943.45 mgGAE/g). Differences in peel color, texture, and flesh color were also found between varieties. These findings confirm significant variation in morphology, proximate composition, and bioactive compounds, which can inform the selection of superior varieties for consumption and inspire creative product development from avocado flesh and seeds.

Abstract

Hair loss is a common condition affecting both men and women and often diminishes quality of life. While synthetic agents like minoxidil are widely used to promote hair growth, their application is frequently associated with adverse side effects, highlighting the need for safer natural alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) extract in hair tonic preparations on hair growth and the product's physicochemical characteristics. Rosemary essential oil was extracted using steam distillation, then formulated into hair tonic at various concentrations (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%), and compared with 2% minoxidil as a positive control. Physicochemical characterization included pH measurement, viscosity, and compound analysis using GC-MS. Hair growth activity was tested in vivo using male Wistar rats for 4 weeks, with hair length and weight as parameters. The results showed that all formulations had a pH of 4.18–4.75, corresponding to the physiological pH of the scalp. Viscosity increased with increasing rosemary extract concentration. GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of key compounds such as ?-myrcene, 1,8-cineole, and geraniol, which play a role in biological activity. In vivo testing showed that the 15% formulation produced the highest hair length (16.73 ± 1.97 mm), surpassing 2% minoxidil (10.02 ± 1.83 mm), while the 10% concentration produced the highest hair weight (87.083 ± 30.870 mg/cm²). Furthermore, no signs of irritation were observed in the rosemary group, while skin side effects were observed in the minoxidil group. It can be concluded that rosemary extract has the potential to be a natural active ingredient in an effective and safe hair tonic preparation to stimulate hair growth. A 10% concentration is recommended as the optimal formulation based on the balance between hair length and quality produced Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-beingSDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
