Abstract

Characteristics and Toxicity of Nanoemulsion Formulations of Piper retrofractum and Tagetes erecta Extract Mixtures. Nanotechnology has been used in the developing of botanical insecticide formulation for improving its stability and effectiveness. The research was aimed to make nanoemulsion formulations of Piper retrofractum fruits and Tagetes erecta flowers extracts and to evaluate their toxicity against brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens [Stål]) nymphs. The development of nanoemulsion formulaions was carried out by using the low energy method with inversion phase emulsification.  The toxicity of the four formulations was tested against brown planthopper nymphs using a contact method. Four nanoemulsion formulations were obtained.  The study showed that in the developing of the formulations, the type and level of emulsifier materials affected the physical characteristics of formulas, such as stability, surface tension, viscosity, particle size, and particle morphology. The nanoemulsion formulation containing 1% of the mixture of P. retrofractum fruits and T. erecta flowers extracts, 1.75% Triton X-100 emulsifier showed the highest toxic on the brown planthopper nymph, with the LC95 value was 0.15%.  The study indicates that nanoemulsion formulation of P. retrofractum and T. erecta extracts are potential to be developed as botanical insecticide to control brown planthopper of rice.

Abstract

Leafminers, Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard) (Diptera: Agromyzidae) known as main pest at vegetable and ornamental crop. Hemiptarsinus varicornis (Girault) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) is one of ectoparasitoid larvae of L. huidobrensis that usually find in the field, however the levels of parasitism at field relative lower. Therefore we need the conservation technology of parasitoid in order to its population overflow so that its performance increases. Rorippa indica (L) have potential as reservoir of parasitoid H. varicornis, so that can be used as conservation medium of H. varicornis. Planting weeds R. indica among of chickpea crop, can decraese the population of adult and larvae L. huidobrensis significantly, increase adult population H. varicornis and larvae population L. huidobrensis parasitism by H. varicornis. Growth rate of population adult H. varicornis at block without weeds R. indica follow the pattern of regretion equation Y=0,1312X?0,2246 and Y=0,7172X+1,1 while at the block planted weeds R. indica. Abstract

A research was conducted to increase the virulence of Beauvaria bassiana to the rice bug, L. acuta, by adding four different substances (materials) to the rice media to grow the fungus. The research was conducted from April to August 2011 at Polinela Laboratory, Bandar Lampung. To do this a set of experimental unit consisting of five treatments and five replications were arranged in completely randomized design. The four treatments were media made up of rice (rice based media) each given or added with four different materials such as rice skin powder, corn sugar, grasshopper powder and chitosan powder. The result showed that B. bassiana grown on rice media added with grasshopper powder or rice skin powder were able of causing mortality to the L. acuta as high as 78% and 71%, respectively, meaning that both mortalities were much higher than that of other replication. The virulence values of Beauveria bassiana grown on those both powder were also higher than that of three others.

Abstract

The abundance of predatory arthropods in the rice field ecosystem acts as a biological agent that suppresses pest populations. This study aims to analyze the types of species, individuals, and abundance of predatory arthropods. The research was conducted at the Lampung State Polytechnic Seed Teaching Farm in August-December 2020. The rice plant lines planted by Lampung State Polytechnic were 14 New Type Rice (PTB) lines, namely Pandan Wangi (PW, B1, B2, B3, B4, B7, D2, D3, F3, F4, H1, H4, K, and L2 with 2 and comparable superior varieties namely Ciherang (CH) and Gilirang (Gil)). Rice cultivation is carried out conventionally. Observations of predatory arthropods that inhabit rice canopy were carried out using 3 double swings of insect nets / sweepnets per treatment plot. Insect collection was carried out at 06.00-09.00 WIB then identified in the Food Crops Laboratory II, counting the number of species, number of individuals and relative abundance. The results showed that predatory arthropods that inhabit the canopy of rice plants in several rice plant lines were obtained from the Oxyopidae, Tetragnathidae, Lycosidae, Coenagrionidae, Correidae, Coccinellidae, Chrysomelidae, and Staphylinidae families. The Tetragnathidae and Coenagrionidae families have the highest proportion of species and are found in each rice plant line.

Abstract

Food additives application in food processing should be a conscious matter by either producers or consumers due to food additives excessive and misuses that will give negative impact on human well-being. Farmer Women Group (FWG) Harapan Jaya Rajabasa is one of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in beverage processing, especially soy milk and herbal ginger drinks. These product marketing was still limited to local area, nevertheless consumer demands and auction for both products were quite effective for family additional income and support family food security. Food additives awareness to the member of Harapan Jaya FWG in food processing become an important factor in production process sustainability not only to improve the product selling but also  as an assurance in food safety for their own family members that consumed the product. The method used is counseling and demonstration followed by evaluation. The activity was attended by 22 FWG members. The activity was preceded by brain storming the FWG members awareness on food additives application in food products. Most of the KWT members (more than 84%) have not notice for the regulation, type of food additives, dosage and how to applied food additives in food product. The evaluation results showed that FWG’s member awareness and good practice in food additives regulation, type and dosage, and method to applied had increased.

Abstract

Organic rice farming is a cultivation activity that is synonymous with labor-intensive activities. The use of internal inputs in organic rice farming requires time and effort to prepare. Organic farming is a low-cost farming activity because the use of internal inputs makes organic rice farming more profitable. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of allocative and economic efficiency of organic rice farming in Lampung Province. Economic and allocative efficiency analysis is carried out by deriving the dual frontier cost function from the Cobb-Douglas Stochastic Frontier production function. The results showed that organic rice farming in Lampung Province was not allocatively efficient. Farmers have not maximized the use of organic seeds and pesticides, where both production factors have a low price allocation. Organic rice farming in Lampung Province is not yet economically efficient. Farmers have not received the maximum revenue from organic rice farming. Most of the organic rice harvested is consumed by farming families, so not all organic rice harvested generates income.
