Abstract

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is defined as the abnormal bleeding from the uterine corpus in term of duration, volume, frequency and/or regularity. This condition occurs in 37% of adolescents and may affect the quality of life and increased hospitalization. Etiology is divided into structural and non-structural causes, known as PALM-COEIN. The most common etiology in adolescents is anovulatory menstruation due to immature hypothalamus-hypophysis axis. Diagnostic evaluation should include investigation in the etiology of AUB, anemia signs, and hemodynamic status. Treatment of AUB consists of hormonal and non-hormonal therapy. Therapy in adolescent is given based on the severity of bleeding, grading of anemia, and hemodynamic stability. Follow-up is required after therapy. Understanding AUB in adolescents can help clinicians deliver appropriate and comprehensive treatment. This review was aimed to explain about definition, epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding in adolescent.

Abstract

Background. Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disorder that generally affects women of reproductive age which is characterized by implantation of endometrial tissue, both glands and stroma outside the uterus. Research shows that the initial onset of endometriosis patients begins in adolescence. The high prevalence with atypical symptoms leads to long term delay in establishing the appropriate diagnosis. Further developments in the field of early endometriosis screening will greatly assist clinicians, especially general practitioners in areas with limited health facilities, in early detection of endometriosis. Methods. Using the electronic databases, comprehensive literature searches were conducted with the specific keywords. Full-text manuscripts published were reviewed for relevancy and importantly, reference lists were cross-checked for additional relevant studies. Results. Dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, dyspareunia, dysuria, dyschezia, and glycoprotein were found dominantly in all analyzed literature. The occurrence of endometriosis affects the functioning of women in multiple aspects of life. Endometriosis places a significant burden on teens and adult women, their families, and society as a whole. Conclusion. Combination of structured past history taking, and several biomarker level might be useful as a screening tool that easy to use and cost effective, as early diagnosis is expected to prevent further progression of endometriosis especially in adolescence.

Abstract

Background: Several main symptoms of endometriosis can lead to physical and psychological stress and also hormonal disturbances as the result of prolonged stress. Cortisol was associated with the onset of depression. This study aimed to determine the relationship between cortisol levels and depression in women with endometriosis at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital (RSMH) Palembang. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed at the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility outpatient clinic and inpatient ward, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang, from January to November 2020. There were 74 samples of endometriosis patients who met the inclusion criteria. The blood cortisol level was examined using the ELISA method. The determination of depression level was performed by filling out the Beck Depression Inventory questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0. Results: Seventy-four samples met the inclusion criteria. As many as 44 patients (59.5%) without depression, 20 patients (27%) with mild depression, 8 patients (10.8%) with moderate depression, and only 2 patients (2.7%) with severe depression. There were no differences in age, marital status, parity, menstrual cycle, and duration of treatment between endometriosis patients with and without depression (p > 0.05). There was a significant difference in cortisol levels between endometriosis patients with and without depression (p = 0.017). Endometriosis patients with cortisol levels ≤ 7.4 mg/dl were three times more at risk of depression than endometriosis patients with cortisol levels > 7.4 mg/dl. In addition, there was a significant relationship between cortisol level and depression status (OR = 3.023 (95% CI 1.153–7.942; p = 0.041). This study also found a significantly low negative correlation between cortisol levels and BDI scores (r = -0.249; p = 0.032). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between serum cortisol levels and depression in women with endometriosis. Endometriosis patients with depression had significantly lower cortisol levels than endometriosis patients without depression.

Abstract

Parenting patterns are the basis that influence a child's growth and development. The parenting model applied to children will determine how children develop in physical, psychological and social aspects. The focus of the research will refer to efforts to internalize Rabindranath Tagore's educational philosophy which includes five points, namely freedom, harmony, active communication with man and nature, creative self-expression and internationalism into a practical parenting model. This research uses a qualitative research method with a library research approach which is sharpened by descriptive studies. This research found that the five points of Tagore's method, if internalized in a parenting pattern model, will produce a new parenting pattern model that produces a method that emphasizes self-respect for children, children's freedom to actualize themselves, instilling an attitude of caring for the natural and social environment in children and emphasizing the role of parents in providing motivation and appreciation.

Abstract

Video can be used as a learning medium for various purposes. In this research, the object of study is the movements of the traditional dance "remo." Thus, as a substitute for an absent coach or instructor, videos can take on the role of a dance instructor. However, video communication is one-way between the coach and the learners. Without movement correction, individuals trying to learn remo dance may find it challenging to determine if they are performing the movements correctly. Therefore, the author aims to create a system to assist coaches in correcting the dance movements of their learners. Using the MediaPipe module and the Dynamic Time Warping algorithm, the author developed a system to correct the learners' dance movements. This system can detect deviations from the coach's instructional video and provide notifications about which body angles do not match the coach's video instructions. The system operates by having users upload a video of their dance movements, and then it identifies which movements deviate from the correct remo dance. The accuracy is measured by comparing the angle distances between the master's movements and the test data. If the angle exceeds a predetermined threshold, the movement is considered incorrect. The system's output is validated by the coach, and it achieves 90% accuracy in identifying movement errors in videos. With this accuracy, the system can assist coaches in evaluating their learners' remo dance movements.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance both the understanding and application of Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTs) in mathematics instruction for participating teachers. Employing a targeted professional development approach informed by the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) framework, the program equipped 21 mathematics teachers from Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) in Aceh Tengah District, Indonesia, with the necessary knowledge and pedagogical strategies to foster and cultivate high-level thinking skills in their students. The program demonstrably improved teachers' knowledge, skills, and commitment towards implementing HOTs-oriented instruction. While areas like solving HOTs questions necessitate further attention, the overall results suggest success, paving the way for continued advancements in promoting deep-thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics education. Analysis of the data reveals a positive impact of the program on teachers' understanding of HOTs. While areas such as problem-solving and critical thinking require further development, the program evidently achieved its goals of raising awareness, knowledge, and application skills related to HOTs. Building upon this foundation, future interventions can delve deeper into these advanced skills, further empowering teachers to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in their students.

Abstract

Song is a form of popular literary work which contains typical elements of the writer such as background, self-expression and images of everyday life. This study uses a qualitative research approach with a literature review (library research). To study each part of the nemen song, the writer uses Charles Sander Pierce's semiotic method combined with Sternberg's theory of love which contains three elements, namely intimacy, passion and commitment. This research found that nemen songs depict the expression of love from the character to the lover so that the character is willing to do anything for the happiness of the lover. However, in the end the love relationship still ends. This song also contains the three elements of love from Sternberg's perspective which include intimacy, passion and commitment.

Abstract

Reward and punishment are human resource management strategies widely implemented in educational organizations to improve teacher performance. This study aims to analyze the impact of reward and punishment on teacher performance, job satisfaction, and loyalty based on a literature review from various recent national and international journals. The method used is a literature review, examining and analyzing relevant scientific articles. The results show that reward has a positive and significant impact on improving teacher performance, job satisfaction, and loyalty to the educational institution. Rewards, both financial and non-financial, such as professional recognition and career development opportunities, have been proven to enhance both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of teachers. Meanwhile, punishment has a more complex impact; in certain contexts, it can improve discipline and performance, but if applied disproportionately, it can potentially decrease satisfaction and loyalty. Therefore, the application of reward is more recommended as the main strategy in educational management, while punishment should be used selectively, fairly, and educationally. These findings have implications for school principals and education managers in designing effective and sustainable teacher performance management policies.
