The results of the examination showed negative nicotine (93%) with the criteria of the female sex (77%), 11-20 years old (20%), 11-20 years of exposure (37%), and the level of elementary school education (37%). Respondents who were positive for nicotine were 2 people (7%) with characteristics of male sex (7%), aged 31-40 years (7%), long exposure for 31-40 years (7%), and level education of elementary school and junior high school (3.3%). This study concludes that nicotine negative respondents (93%). Nicotine is hazardous for the health of passive smokers. The longer exposure to cigarette smoke, the higher the nicotine content in the body so that the body's nicotine content can be detected. People are advised to use masks and avoid exposure to cigarette smoke too often to prevent the entry of harmful substances into the body

Abstract

Farmers in Pucung Kidul Village often use pesticides to eradicate pests, diseases, and weeds on plants. Pesticides contain several kinds of metals, including cadmium (Cd) and copper (Cu). High levels of cadmium in the blood can interfere with the process of erythropoiesis and heme synthesis caused by the accumulation of cadmium. While copper poisoning can cause degenerative processes in the brain and cirrhosis of the liver. This research is a descriptive study that aims to measure the levels of cadmium and copper in the blood of farmers in Pucung Kidul Village. Measurements were made using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The sample used in this study was 15 samples obtained by the purposive sampling technique. The results showed that all respondents did not use PPE and 2 respondents with a working period of > 5 years obtained cadmium levels from 15 samples, there was 1 sample with cadmium levels above the threshold, which was 0.047 mg/L. Meanwhile, the copper content of the 15 samples contained 1 sample with the copper content above the threshold, which was 1.27 mg/L. This shows that the proper use of PPE, also years of service, and age can affect blood levels of cadmium and copper. Where the longer the working period, the more exposure that occurs and causes high levels of cadmium and copper in the blood. With the results of this study, it is hoped that farmers will continue to use personal protective equipment (PPE) when using pesticides and wash their hands after using them.

Abstract

Orange has high levels of Vitamin C. The most frequently consumed orange is tangerine. People usually consume fresh oranges and juice. This study aimed to determine the difference in Vitamin C content in fresh tangerine and tangerine juice. The research design used was experimental. Population in this study area includes all citrus fruits sold in the Ngemplak Tulungagung market. The sample was obtained by using the purposive sampling technique. The data obtained are fresh tangerine has a content of Vitamin C as much as 26,4% and tangerine juice as much as 7,2%, then data is processed with the software SPSS 16 and analyzed by Independent T-test. Result of Independent T-test is obtained P-value = 0.001 < α = 0.05.Based on the result of the Independent T-test, it can be concluded that H0 is rejected, so there is a difference in Vitamin C content in fresh tangerine and tangerine juice on an Iodometric basis.

Abstract

Avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) have many benefits in our health because the leaves contain many secondary metabolites. One of the secondary metabolites in avocado leaves is quercetin. Quercetin is the largest compound of the flavonols group in which percentage of quercetin and its glycosides is 60-75% of total flavonoids. The purpose of this study was to isolate quercetin compounds from ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of avocado leaves and to determine the presence of quercetin compounds in the avocado leaves. The leaves were extracted by maceration using 95% ethanol and fractionated with ethyl acetate. Identification of quercetin compounds using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The results of this study indicated that avocado leaf extract contained quercetin compounds with a retention time of 5.83 minutes with molecular weight m/z = 300.50-301.50 [M-H]+. Keywords: Avocado leaves, quercetin, LC-MS  Daun alpukat (Persea americana Mill.) banyak memiliki kegunaan dalam kesehatan karena mengandung banyak metabolit sekunder.

Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) which accumulates in the body for a long time can damage human organs such as the respiratory tract, reproductive organs, liver, and kidneys. However, many smokers ignore this, so laboratory evidence is needed to advise smokers. This study analyzed the levels of cadmium (Cd) in the urine of smokers in Bangoan Village, Tulungagung District. The research method used is descriptive analytics. The research sample consisted of 15 smokers obtained through random sampling from 15 cafes in Bangoan Village, Tulungagung Regency. The research instrument was a urine examination result sheet. Urine samples were examined with an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The data analysis technique was carried out using quantitative descriptive. The results showed that 8 (53%) smokers had normal cadmium levels, and 7 (47%) other smokers had abnormal cadmium levels with the lowest level being 0.503 µg/L and the highest level being 83.892 µg/L. The community is expected to reduce cigarette consumption and avoid exposure to cigarette smoke in the surrounding environment in order to reduce organ damage.
