Abstract

This study was conducted in March 2023 in the coastal waters of the eastern part of the island of Rupat, Riau Province. The method used in this study used the purposive sampling method at 3 station points. Water samples were used to analyze nitrate and phosphate analyzed using Ultraviolet Spectrophotometry, and analysis of water organic matter using the titrimetric method. Diatom sampling using plankton net measuring 25 µm. The results of the study found 14 species from 3 classes of diatoms namely Bacillariophyceae, Cyanophyceae, and Conjugatophyceae. Diatom abundance ranged from 472.22 - 993.05 cells/L. The regression equation for nitrate on diatoms is Y= 929.151-3194.045x. The coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.080 indicates that the effect of nitrate on diatom abundance has a weak close relationship. The effect of phosphate on diatom abundance has a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.105 and the effect of phosphate has weak proximity. The influence of water organic matter has a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.033 with a very weak effect. The analysis shows that the concentration of nitrate (NO3) is included in the oligotrophic fertility level, namely the low fertility rate

Abstract

This community dedication is aimed at informing the community about the creation of a new fish habitat by floating a set of artificial habitat units in the selected zone based on oxbow batimetry, so that the fish resources in the oxbows remain available. The dedication activities were carried out in the Rantau Baru Village, Pangkalan Kerinci  district of Pelalawan Regency, and the delivery of material was carried out on August 2, 2023. There are 30 participants in this selection, consisting of the village equipment and the oxbow fishermen in the New Rantau Village. The materials to be provided for this dedication are: (a) Oxbow and its uses; (b) biodiversity of fish and public waters; (c) threats to fish biodiversity; (d) artificial habitat; and (e) methods of creation, operation, and maintenance of artificial habitat. The method used in the implementation of this activity is to survey the field first, then conduct deliberations in the form of lectures and interactive discussions, followed by demonstrating the artificial creation of habitats and placing the tools in the oxbow. The results of the evaluation of the change in knowledge carried out on 30 participants in the service to the community showed that 5 people (16.7%) have been able to absorb the material given with the preaching very well, 13 people (43.3%) can absorb materials given with good preaching, 10 people (33.3%) can absorb material with sufficient preaching, and 2 people (6.7%) could absorb material with less preaching. As for the impact on implementation in the field, there has been a process of dissemination of knowledge to fishermen carried out by community leaders. So that the diversity of fish in public waters (especially the oxbow lake) that exists in the Rantau Baru Village can be well awakened.

Abstract

The coastal areas of Dumai City in Riau Province are rapidly developing regions, especially in the tourism sector. This city offers several attractive beach destinations, such as Pasir Koneng Beach, Beringin Indah Beach, and Purnama Beach, attracting many local and international tourists. However, tourism growth in Dumai City also leads to an increase in solid domestic waste, which can threaten the coastal environment and the sustainability of marine ecosystems. This research aims to analyze the types and abundance of solid domestic waste in the coastal tourism areas of Dumai City. Through direct survey methods and descriptive analysis, samples of solid domestic waste were collected from three different beach locations: Purnama Beach, Koneng Beach, and Beringin Indah Beach. The results show that plastic waste is the most dominant type in all research locations, followed by wood and Styrofoam. Analysis of solid domestic waste's mass density and abundance indicates no significant difference between sampling stations or sampling times. This study provides a better understanding of the solid domestic waste issue in the coastal areas of Dumai City. It emphasizes the need for more effective management actions to maintain the sustainability of coastal tourism environments and prevent negative impacts on marine ecosystems and human well-being

Abstract

Oil pollution in the waters is one of the factors that affect the abundance of fhytoplankton, especially the diatom. The waters of Lalang Strait, Mengkapan Village, are used as international shipping lanes and industrial areas. This study aims to analyze the total oil content, calculate the abundance of planktonic diatoms, and explain the relationship between the total oil content and the abundance of planktonic diatoms carried out in the Lalang Strait waters, Mengkapan Village, Siak Regency, Riau Province. This research uses survey method. Station 1 is near Tanjung Buton Port, station 2 is in the mangrove ecotourism area, and station 3 is in the fishing port and near the settlement. The result of oil content analysis obtained an average value of 0,00016 ppm. The highest oil content at station 3 is 0,00035 ppm and the lowest at station 2 is 0,00011 ppm. The results of the calculation of the abundance of planktonic diatoms ranged from 5.014 to 22.062 cells/L. The highest abundance at station 1 was 17.716 cells/L. The lowest abundance was at station 2 which was 9.694 cells/L. Simple linear regression test result, obtained equation Y= 14,2644+(-3802,27x). The coefficient of determination (R2)= 0,002 states 0,2 % of the abundance of planktonic diatoms is influenced by oil content and the rest is influenced by other environmental factors. Correlation coefficient (r) = 0,053, so the relationship of total oil content with the abundance of planktonic diatoms is very weak.
