Abstract

Introduction: Street foods are food and drink which are processed on the selling spot and/or served as ready-to-consume foods by food vendors to sell to people. Foods and drinks which are rested for too long in the environment will make it possible to get contaminated by pathogen microbes and then results in disease. One of the microbes that is considerably contaminating street foods is Salmonella. We aim to identify Salmonella on drink which are offered in the canteens of Public Elementary School. Methods: This research is design as a descriptive observational, including incubation in Selenite broth, streak in MacConkey agar, and species identification using biochemical tests. Results: There were no Salmonella sp. in drinks sample of street foods which are offered both inside and outside the canteens of Public Elementary School 1 Surabaya, but other gram-negative bacteria contaminated foods. Conclusion: The street foods in elementary school, both the main ingredients and tools used during food processing and serving, still have contamination from pathogen, especially gram-negative bacteria. The vendors and sellers need to be taught how to process and serve foods in better hygiene.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background : Dengue virus infection is still a health problem in Surabaya. On 2015 Insidence Rate (IR) for Surabaya is 22.50 and the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is 2%. This figure has decreased compared to 2014, but has not met the target achievement indicator for the P2DBD target CFR <1%. Method : The study was conducted in the rainy season, May 2015 in several Puskesmas areas in Surabaya. Samples were randomly selected as many as 378 houses spread in eight health centers (Pegirian, Krembangan Selatan, Hamlet Wall, Tambak Rejo, Putat Jaya, Simomulyo, Sawahan and Tanahkali Kedinding). The larvae survey was conducted using the single larva method. Larvae were taken from breeding sites and stored in specimen bottles for species identification at the Parasitology Laboratory Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga. Result : The highest House Index (HI) was obtained (60.46%) or the 39.54% larvae free rate in Simomulyo and the lowest HI (33.33%) or 66.67% ABJ in Pegirian Puskesmas. Larvae species identification showed 100% was Aedes aegypti. The high HI value at the Simomulyo Health Center is not in line with the number of cases of dengue virus infection in 2015 which was 4 cases. Whereas in Pegirian Health Center with the lowest HI value found 11 cases. Discussion : These results could be due to the possibility because the study did not calculate larval density and high population mobility in the area.

Abstract

Tuberculosis developed differently in each individual. The role of HIV in the disease development is widely known unlike the role of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection. Therefore, this study is aimed at to describe the role of those co-infections in the TB development. The study employed observational – case control design with two groups, case and control group. Data collection include TB condition, whether latent or manifest, and history of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C co-infection. The study successfully recruited the total of 32 respondents in each group. At the case group, the number of male and respondent is 19 and 13. Meanwhile, at the control group the number male respondent is 10 and the female respondent is 22. The study found that 20 and 12 respondents were positive Hepatitis B at the case and the control group. Chi-square test resulted significant different between two groups (P=0.0455 and a =0.05) with odd ratio p=0.479. Meanwhile, the study only tested one respondent with positive Hepatitis C at case group and one at control group. Comparison analysis found no significant different between groups (P=1 and a =0.05). This study reveals that TB patients are more likely to have history of Hepatitis B 2.7 times than those at the control group with the same infection but without TB development. Therefore, the possibility of Hepatitis B co-infection has role in the TB manifestation, but not for Hepatitis C co-infection.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that can lead to severe complications if not properly managed. Medication adherence plays a crucial role in controlling blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Various factors affect patients' adherence to medication, including employment status, knowledge levels, and family support. This study analyzes the relationship between these factors and medication adherence among hypertensive patients in Ardimulyo Village, Malang Regency, using a cross-sectional design. Data were gathered through structured interviews and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results indicated no significant relationship between employment status (p=0.877) or knowledge level (p=0.181) and medication adherence. However, there was a significant relationship between family support and medication adherence (=0.047), with a weak to moderate correlation strength (contingency coefficient=0.240). However, family support plays a crucial role. Consequently, strategies aimed at improving medication adherence should focus on boosting family involvement and support systems to enhance health outcomes for patients with hypertension.
