Abstract

Grammar games have become widely adopted in English Language Teaching (ELT) to enhance students' grammatical competence through engaging and interactive approaches. This study systematically reviews existing literature on the effectiveness of grammar games by analyzing their application, benefits, and overall impact. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, data were collected from Taylor & Francis, PubMed, and Mendeley databases. From an initial pool of 102 articles, 14 met the eligibility criteria, with nine included in the final analysis through the PRISMA framework. The findings demonstrate that grammar games significantly enhance student motivation, participation, and mastery of grammar. Tools like Kahoot!, Duolingo, Quizizz, and traditional games contribute to a more student-centered environment. Challenges such as time constraints and off-focus behavior were noted. The study recommends further research into long-term effects and the integration of grammar games into complex grammar instruction.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of ChatGPT in improving English language skills through systematic literature review. The method used is a systematic analysis of 43 journals related to ChatGPT and English education obtained from Mendeley, with a focus on the benefits, challenges, and pedagogical implications of using AI in language learning. Research results show that ChatGPT provides benefits in the development of writing and speaking skills through interactive feedback, AI-based exercises, and conversation simulations that allow students to practice in real contexts. In addition, ChatGPT supports independent learning, increases student involvement, enriches vocabulary, and helps in formative assessment by providing corrections and improvement suggestions. However, this study also found significant challenges, including excessive reliance on technology, lack of understanding of cultural context, potential bias in AI response, as well as the risk of plagiarism and academic integrity violations. In addition, the quality of the answers produced is not always accurate, so teacher guidance is needed to ensure that students continue to think critically and not just passively receive information. In conclusion, although Chat GPT has transformational potential in English learning, its effectiveness is highly dependent on ethical implementation, appropriate pedagogical strategies, and clear regulations. Therefore, training is needed for educators to optimize its use in learning, as well as a blended learning-based approach that combines AI technology with direct interaction between teachers and students to create a balanced, effective, and appropriate learning environment for the needs of learners.

Abstract

Flashcards have long been recognized as a valuable tool in English Language Teaching (ELT), particularly for helping students build and retain vocabulary. With the rise of technology, traditional paper-based flashcards have evolved into digital formats, making them more versatile and widely accessible in language learning. This study aims to analyze trends in flashcard research and explore their impact on vocabulary acquisition, student engagement, and technological integration. This systematic review explores the effectiveness of flashcards in ELT, focusing on primary school students by analyzing studies published between 2020 and 2024. Following the PRISMA framework, relevant studies were selected from databases such as Google Scholar, Mendeley, and Semantic Scholar, ensuring a rigorous screening process based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings reveal that flashcards improve vocabulary retention, increase student engagement, and foster motivation. Digital flashcards, in particular, offer interactive features, multimedia support, and ease of access, creating a more engaging and adaptable learning experience. However, challenges such as unequal access to technology and the risk of over-reliance on digital tools must be considered. This review emphasizes the importance of integrating flashcards with other teaching strategies to maximize their impact in ELT classrooms.
