Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for babies provides great benefits for the health status of babies and their mothers, but in reality the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is still low. The low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding causes many problems such as stunted growth and development. The low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is caused by the lack of knowledge of mothers about how to increase milk production. There are still breastfeeding mothers who are confused about how to breastfeed properly, how to increase milk production and how to deal with problems found during breastfeeding. Handling is needed in increasing this knowledge through peer counseling education. This research method is quasi-experimental with a one group pre-post test approach. The population in this study were third trimester pregnant women. The sampling technique was total sampling. All pregnant women who came to visit the LMT Siregar Clinic in September 2022 were used as research samples, namely 27 people. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of peer counseling education on increasing mother's knowledge in increasing milk production. The research location was at the Siregar LMT Clinic during August-November 2022. The results found that there was significant effectiveness in providing peer counseling education on mother's knowledge about increasing milk production at the Siregar LMT Clinic with a p-value of 0.023 (p-value <0.05). The recommendation in this study is that peers can be empowered in maternal and child health education methods in health services.

Abstract

Menstruation can cause various problems including pain during menstruation or what is commonly known as dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea can interfere with daily activities, including school activities for adolescents. Dysmenorrhea can occur 2-3 years after menarche. The average duration of menstruation is 3-6 days, followed by reduced blood loss from the 2nd day to the end. This causes women to feel pain on the 2nd day of their cycle due to the unmaximized detachment of the endometrium. Puberty is an important phase of life, followed by development and growth. Good knowledge will shape behavior that supports maximum growth and development. Dysmenorrhea is the number one reason why female students are absent from school. Absences lead to missing information and an impairment. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between menstrual length and menstrual cycle with dysmenorrhea in female students. This study uses a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study consisted of 106 female students drawn by the total sampling method. Inclusion criteria were female students with menarche, and exclusion criteria were PCOS. Analysis using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the prevalence of female students with dysmenorrhea was 71.1%. The results of the bivariate analysis test showed that there was no significant association between menstrual cycle (p value = 1.000) and menstrual length (p value = 0.852) with dysmenorrhea.

Abstract

Nutritional status is a measure of success in balancing the needs and fulfillment of children's nutrition, as indicated by the weight and height of children based on their age (Menteri Kesehatan Republik Indonesia, n.d.). Malnutrition is a serious condition in which a person's food intake does not match the nutrients they need. The 2018 Global Nutrition Report shows that Indonesia is among 17 countries that have three nutrition problems at once, called multiple nutrition problems. These include stunting, wasting, and overweight (obesity) (Global Nutrition Report, 2018). The most common nutritional problem in Indonesia is undernutrition. Children under five years old (0–5 years) are the age group that most often suffers from malnutrition or is one of the groups of people who are vulnerable to nutrition. The most decisive intervention in reducing the prevalence of stunting is in the first 1000 days of life of the child, or before the age of 2 years, because the growth of children aged 2-3 years has slowed down so that the process of catching up at this age has a smaller chance than the age of 6–24 months (Kusuma, 2013; TNP2K, 2017). The form of efforts made to prevent and overcome malnutrition in children is by providing counseling related to child growth and development and balanced nutrition in children to increase mothers' knowledge related to growth and development and balanced nutrition. This activity began by approaching partners to determine the date and process of activities planned for June 16, 2023, at the Teratai Putih Posyandu, Paseban Village, Senen District.

Abstract

Sex education is very important to give to teenagers, even from childhood. Children and adolescents are vulnerable to misinformation about sex. People's views in general are still taboo when talking about sex and sexuality issues. If sex education is not taught as early as possible to children, it is likely that there will be violations of moral values such as free sex, rape, etc. Some efforts that can be made to overcome reproductive health problems in adolescents include sexual education. Sexual education is an effort to increase knowledge and change individual attitudes and behaviors to better understand their reproductive health needs. The purpose of this community service is to increase students' knowledge related to sex education. At the beginning of this activity, it began with an approach with partners, namely to see how many students and female students participated, for effectiveness in counseling. The participants who participated in this counseling were fourth grade students at Ricci Elementary School, Jalan Kemenangan III N0 47 Glodok, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, consisting of 48 male students and 33 female students. The total number of participants who participated in this counseling was 81. This counseling activity was declared successful because there was an increase in knowledge in students and schoolgirls after being given counseling.

Abstract

A strategy to enhance the welfare of families is family planning. Couples are given the freedom to decide what is best for their family when it comes to the number of children and the spacing between births. An autonomous, simple, affordable, and Catholic-compliant method of contraception is natural family planning with the Billings ovulation method. For the purpose to complete this community service project, representatives from Catholic churches are trained about the Billings ovulation method. Participants in this activity acquire information and guidance on how to observe cervical mucus. In order to address any circumstances that may arise during observations, participants are also instructed. It is intended that after completing this course, the participants will be qualified to become counsellors in their own settings.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a symptom that arises due to abnormalities in the pelvic cavity and interferes with daily activities, especially in school-age adolescents. It was reported that between 30% and 60% of young women who had dysmenorrhea did not go to school. Treatment of dysmenorrhea can be carried out pharmacologically or non-pharmacologically, depending on the aspect of knowledge. Counselling is known to be effective in increasing knowledge, and leaflets and printed media also facilitate the teaching and learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of counselling and leaflet media on increasing knowledge. The study used a non-equivalent control group design. The research sample was taken by simple random sampling using a questionnaire to assess knowledge about dysmenorrhea. The analysis used a paired t-test to determine the effect of counselling and leaflet media and an independent t-test to determine the most influential media. The results showed that there was an effect of increasing knowledge by providing material through counselling and leaflets (p <0.05). Leaflets are concluded to increase knowledge, compared to counselling.

Abstract

One of the most crucial factors is growth, which needs to be treated carefully from a young age. However, parents and medical professionals frequently overlook this. From a young age, a lot of work needs to be done to maximize children's growth and development in order to prevent any unexpected delays or deviations. According to the World Health Organization, the global newborn weight incidence rate is still more than 5% below the recommended level. According to Riskesdas (2018), 33.6% of study participants reported eating difficulties, 44.5% had mild to moderate malnutrition, and 79.2% had had eating difficulties for longer than three months. Massage stimulation is a manual technique that can be used as one of the promotional efforts to overcome children's health issues. A child's brain will be stimulated by appropriate and sufficient stimulation, resulting in the development of motor skills, speech and language, independence and socializing, and behavior and emotions that are ideal for their age. The 2024 study by Wardani et al. on the impact of baby massage on weight gain in infants revealed that there was a correlation between the two, with 52.5% of infants aged 0–3 months who got baby massage gaining more than 1 kilogram each month. The majority of the 111 parents of toddlers who participated in the community service project at St. Matthew the Evangelist Church in Bintaro said they thought the exercise was helpful and would utilize it at home. In light of this, it can be said that this community service project was successful in educating participants about the benefits of massaging infants and toddlers.
