Abstract

This research aims to build a new conceptual model based on shared value relational capital and synergized Network assets to improve innovation capabilities in the context of Small and medium enterprises (SME) business performance. A structural methodology study was adopted in this research and involved 180 small and medium business owners or managers involved in this research in the data collection process. Data analysis for this research uses AMOS 25 software. The findings show that there are two strategic paths for improving SME business performance. Strengthening the share value of relational capital and synergy network assets is a key strategy for improving SME business performance. The sample frame taken from SMEs in Central Java province is a limitation in this research in building the generalization strength of the concept of share value of relational capital. So a form of replication of similar research is needed to achieve a fairly broad generalization of the new concept. The theoretical implications in this research are related to the application of resource-based theory in the study of marketing and strategy management. Some are managerial impressive for SME business actors who want to improve their business performance. This study has the originality of a pioneering study regarding the explanation of the role of share value relational capital and synergy network assets, which are expected to be able to provide a role in bridging innovation capabilities and improving SME business performance.

Abstract

This qualitative study examines the development of tourist interest in the Borobudur Marathon as a sports tourism destination in Central Java from 1990 to 2022. Through analysis of participant data and successful implementation, the study shows a significant transformation from a simple running race to a world-class sports tourism event that has a significant economic impact with an estimated turnover of IDR 10 billion in 2022. The results of the study indicate that the friendliness of the local community, sustainable innovation, and integration with MSMEs are the main keys to the growth of tourist interest. By using a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, this study contributes to the understanding of the development of sport tourism in Indonesia, especially in the context of utilizing cultural heritage as the main attraction.

Abstract

This study analyzes the utilization of business data to strengthen the economic sustainability of rural communities in Tuntang District. A qualitative approach with a case study design was applied in 16 villages through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, while data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that business data are strategically utilized to support evidence-based planning, mapping local economic potential, strengthening the capacity of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), and improving the digital literacy of business actors. The utilization of such data contributes to business growth, increased turnover, and improvements in bookkeeping, business planning, and access to formal sources of capital. In addition, business data also assist village governments in determining priorities for community economic empowerment programs more accurately and effectively. The main supporting factors include the commitment of village leadership, active participation of business actors, mentoring support, the availability of technological infrastructure, and a collaborative culture among stakeholders. Meanwhile, the challenges encountered include limited human resource capacity, infrastructure gaps, resistance from some business actors toward data transparency, and dependence on external assistance. This study formulates a participatory, integrated, collaborative, and sustainable business data utilization model as a contextual precision data-based approach to support rural economic development.

Abstract

Carbit Cannon is a traditional folk game played by the Kapuas River in Pontianak City. It was designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Indonesia (Intangible Cultural Heritage) by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2016. Despite its formal recognition and potential as a tourist attraction, data from the Pontianak City Education and Culture Office recorded a decline in participation from 41 groups with 249 cannons in 2024 to 30–37 groups with 184 cannons in 2025, due to scarcity of raw materials, high production costs, and challenges in knowledge regeneration. This study aims to analyze the preservation strategy for the Carbit Cannon, the role of this tradition as a cultural tourism attraction, and the supporting and inhibiting factors for its integration with community-based tourism (CBT) development. The research employed a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive approach with an instrumental case study design. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with key informants representing the local government (Tourism Office), artisans/masters, cannon group leaders, young conservationists, and domestic tourists. This was complemented by analysis of policy documents and verified media coverage. The results indicate that the Carbit Cannon has been positioned as a leading tourist attraction with significant economic contributions from hotels and MSMEs. However, promotion remains limited to the local tourism calendar without Online Travel Agent (OTA) partnerships and has not yet been included in the national tourism event calendar. Signs of tension between preservation and commodification (staged authenticity) were also identified, such as the replacement of traditional wood with PVC pipes and the cannon group's push to appear more spectacular for tourists. The study recommends an integrative model that combines recognition of maestro status, development of integrated river cruise tourism, strengthening digital promotion and OTA partnerships, and a collaborative government-private-community financing scheme to maintain the sustainability of this tradition as a living heritage and tourism asset for Pontianak City.

Abstract

This study explores how marine tourists perceive, experience, and respond to premium marine tourism at Hotel Renaissance Okinawa, a Marriott resort located in Onna-son on the western coast of Okinawa Island, Japan. While Okinawa is internationally recognised as one of the leading marine destinations in the Asia Pacific, emic and qualitative inquiry into the lived experience of tourists at premium marine resorts in Japan remains limited. Adopting a single embedded case study design, the research draws on the accounts of fourteen informants comprising six international guests, two domestic Japanese guests, five hotel staff on the marine service line, and one tourism expert. Data were gathered through semi-structured questions, supported by observation and documentation, and analysed using six-phase thematic analysis. Three thematic clusters emerged. First, destination choice arose from the interaction of internal push factors, especially the need for escape and restoration that was stronger among domestic guests, with external pull factors dominated by the clarity of the water locally known as Okinawa Blue, brand trust, and digital information. Second, experience quality was perceived as an integrated whole that combined professional and empathetic marine service, memorable encounters with the underwater world, the sincere hospitality expressed as omotenashi, and an emerging awareness of marine sustainability. Third, satisfaction and perceived premium value shaped strong revisit and recommendation intentions, although a segment of international guests displayed variety-seeking that decoupled recommendation from return. The study extends understanding of the integrated luxury and nature value proposition in premium marine tourism and offers practical guidance on activity variety, capacity, equipment renewal, inclusivity, and participatory conservation.

Abstract

Magelang Regency, home to Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, experienced a downward trend in tourist visits that began in 2024 and did not fully recover until 2026. Data shows a decline from 3.4 million visits in 2023 to 2.5 million visits in 2024, followed by stagnation in visits during Eid al-Fitr 2026, with only slight growth compared to Eid al-Fitr 2025 (Kompas Regional, 2026; Emiten News, 2026). This study aims to qualitatively and descriptively analyze six interacting determinants of this trend: the policy of restricting visits and regulations for Borobudur management, the increase in entrance fees, the mandatory use of upanat sandals, limited diversification of tourism products, the readiness of tourism human resources (HR), and environmental degradation due to the increase in motorized transportation. The research employed a qualitative case study approach with triangulation of primary data sources (in-depth interviews with tourism stakeholders) and secondary data (statistics from the Central Statistics Agency, policy documents, verified media coverage, and scientific literature published in 2021–2026). The results indicate that the decline in visits is multi-causal and systemic: the Borobudur conservation policy has strong scientific justification, but its implementation has not been balanced by public communication strategies and diversification of the tourism economy in the surrounding area. This study recommends an integrated destination management model that combines pricing policy reform, strengthening alternative tourism products, increasing human resource capacity, and environmentally friendly transportation as a way out of the single-minded dependence on a single tourist icon.
