Abstract

In various academic literature studies in Indonesia, identity politics is often equated with the politicization of identity. As a result,  identity politics is less noticed as the politics of recognition or multiculturalism politics for oppressed identity groups. This article aims to show the distinction between identity politics and politicization of identity in the history of democracy in Indonesia, while also showing how identity politics, as the politics of recognition and religious moral values, can support democratization. This study is a philosophical research and therefore uses a philosophical research methodology, with five main methodological elements: Interpretation, internal coherence, holistic, historical continuity, and heuristics. First, this study finds that Identity politics and politicization of identity are two terms in contemporary social philosophy with different meanings. Identity politics is not bad per se, while politicization of identity is harmful per se; second, the answer to the problem of democracy is not to confine religion to the private sphere as in secularism in the West or the depoliticization of Islam in the New Order era in Indonesia, but rather to carry out a double learning process between state and religion, politics and faith, reason and revelation, which is called post-secularism; Third, religious hegemony remains a threat to democracy in Indonesia, but because democracy is not only a system but also an ethos, the moral contribution of religion is greatly needed in forming a healthy democracy. In conclusion, identity politics can support democracy when religion engages in dialogue with public reason and becomes the moral foundation of the democratic ethos. Therefore, this study suggests that religion and state must always engage in a dual learning process and recognize each other's contributions.

Abstract

In recent years, the naked body movement as a form of women’s resistance against the expansion of the extractive industries in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) has drawn less attention from academics. This movement significantly redefines women's public roles and drives social development. This research explores the meaning of women's naked body movement based on Hannah Arendt’s theory of action. This research uses a qualitative approach, including a literature review, a document study, and critical analysis. This study indicates that the women's naked body movement in NTT is a political action because it is challenging and subverting structural and political injustice, transforming the negative association of nudity into positive power. This movement transforms the woman's body from a laboring and working body to a political body. This politicization of sexuality has drawn public attention to the female body, making it a form of politics itself. The transformation redefines the female body as a powerful site of resistance against state authority, capitalist exploitation, and patriarchal control.

Abstract

This article examines Herbert Marcuse's thoughts in One Dimensional Man as a critique of the dominance of technology and capitalism in shaping the one-dimensional consciousness of modern humans. Using a critical philosophical approach, this study examines how digital technology, which was originally projected as an instrument of liberation, has actually transformed into a subtle means of oppression through the mechanisms of false needs and irrational rationality. Instead of opening up a space for emancipation, technological developments often deepen human attachment to the logic of the consumption-oriented digital capitalist system. The main goal of this research is to reawaken critical awareness and human negation in the midst of virtual reality that increasingly dominates life in the Society 5.0 era. The results of the study show that digital humans tend to experience existential alienation, where deep reflection and authentic freedom are reduced by the flow of instant information, pseudo-entertainment, and consumptive lifestyles. This condition makes individuals trapped in a cycle of obedience to a system that seems rational, when in fact it covers structural dominance. The discussion emphasized the importance of emancipation efforts through the rejection of the dominant system and the reactivation of critical potential as a path to true freedom. Emancipation is understood not only as a release from the shackles of technology, but also as an effort to revive reflective consciousness that is able to negate false values. Thus, Marcuse's thought remains relevant to reading the crisis of contemporary human consciousness while providing a philosophical foundation for the formation of a reflective, independent, and autonomous subject.

Abstract

This study discusses the role of community participation in making "PERDA", using the Normative Political Science (Political Philosophy) approach. The main idea is that "good governance" is a concretization of the idea of democracy at the local government level. The demand for the involvement of all "stakeholders" is the demand for democracy, with the framework of thinking that the owner of the government is not the government itself but all citizens. Therefore, all policy planning and implementation are not the business of the government alone but the affairs of the whole community. Local government is required to carry out good governance in its implementation. That means the local government must be organized democratically involving three elements, namely the government bureaucracy (state), parliament (political society), and the whole society (civil society). What is new here is the role of public participation in formulating policies in the form of "procedural" and at the same time "substantial" PERDA.

Abstract

The religiously diverse society of NTT (Bumi Flobamora) has received national title as the most tolerant province in Indonesia. However, reality shows that there are religious conflicts, such as the rejection of the establishment of Islamic places of worship and the emergence of various forms of violence with religious nuances. This study attempts to provide a new contemporary social philosophy explanation for the development of religious social conditions. With the help of philosophical methods, the results show that the ideology of pluralism has long lived in Bumi Flobamora. However, this model of "traditional pluralism,” which is based on local wisdom and supported by the government's policy of harmony, is currently no longer in line with demands for universal human rights, because "traditional pluralism" shows the unequal treatment of people of different religions. Therefore, contemporary social philosophy develops a "modern pluralism,” which is built on the principle of equality. To strengthen this new model of pluralism, efforts are needed to overcome the weaknesses of communitarianism. The main weakness of communitarianism is that it opens up a space for religious appreciation that only emphasizes the togetherness and unity of a spiritual community and views those outside the community as other people who may or should even be excluded. The study concludes that the unity of religions in Bumi Flobamora will only survive if traditional pluralism is replaced with modern pluralism, which is in line with the Political Ethics of the Indonesian nation, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and the basic philosophy of Pancasila.

Abstract

The background to this research is the condition of Manggarai women in NTT who still face structural limitations due to patriarchal culture. The customary practice of belis or dowry often perpetuates subordination, treats women as objects of transaction, and confines their roles to the domestic sphere, thereby limiting their participation in the public sphere. On the other hand, the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4:1-42 offers a radically transformative narrative of liberation from multiple layers of discrimination. This study aims to bridge this gap by analysing how the story of the Samaritan woman's transformation can be adopted as an inspiring theological paradigm for the social transformation of Manggarai women. The method used is descriptive qualitative through literature study. The analysis was conducted in two stages; first, a biblical theological hermeneutical analysis of the text of John 4:1-42 to reveal the meaning of transformation and second, a socio-cultural analysis of the position of Manggarai women. The results of the study show that the transformation of the Samaritan woman was twofold. She underwent a personal transformation, or what is known as restoration of dignity, from social and moral alienation, which directly led to a communal transformation, or the courage to become a prophetic witness in the public sphere. This turning point is symbolised by her action of leaving her water jar, which marks a shift from a domestic focus to a public role. This transformation serves as a powerful counter-narrative to patriarchal structures and practices that diminish the value of women. This study concludes that this biblical narrative has significant contextual potential as a theology of gender liberation. The courage of the Samaritan woman who spoke up can ultimately inspire Manggarai women to move from being objects to empowered subjects, and to take on strategic roles in creating a more just and equitable social order.

Abstract

Should we show our obedience more to the state or to the church? Of course, we must always be obedient to God, but this does not mean that such obedience makes us withdraw ourselves from being obedient to social-human institutions, such as a state. It should be noted that the state institution itself is actually a manifestation of our human social nature established by God. In their respective areas, the state and the church are two autonomous entities. However, as public institutions they are related to each other, thus to a certain extent they are not opposed to each other. In line with this view, the Indonesian government issued some regulations on religious teaching and the teaching of religions to be implemented by the community (church). In this case, the government has the obligation to support and assist educational institutions run by the church. It should be noted, however, that the government’s support and assistance should only be secondary in order not to replace, or even to cease, the educational institutions run by private sectors, such as the church Keywords: Negara, ketaatan, Gereja, ajaran religius, ajaran tentang agama, dan pemerintahan

Abstract

This article examines the issue of Rocky Gerung's identity through the perspective of Jacques Lacan's philosophy and psychoanalysis, particularly the concept of parlêtre or speaking being. This concept asserts that humans are essentially subjects formed through language. Lacan views language not merely as a tool of communication, but as a symbolic structure that shapes identity, conveys desire, and limits subjects in the symbolic realm. The research focuses on three aspects: the Lacanian identity paradigm, the construction of Rocky Gerung's identity, and the empowerment of his thinking in the public sphere. The research method used is a literature study analyzing Lacan's works, Rocky Gerung's writings, and various seminar materials and public content in the mass media. The results of the study show that Rocky Gerung's identity is a manifestation of a Lacanian subject that is unstable, fragmented, and empty. Language plays an important role in shaping this identity while also serving as a medium for channeling desires that are never fully realized. In conclusion, Rocky Gerung's identity is a linguistic construction that continues to move within the symbolic realm, reflecting the dynamics of the unconscious and the need for recognition, as well as affirming the relevance of Lacan's thinking in understanding contemporary social identity.
