Abstract

Karya Muda No. 7.

Abstract

Fermented  Artocarpus altilis leaves contains phenolic compound  that has pharmacological activity. Differences in fermentation method, i.e., aerobic and anaerobic fermentation might change its characteristics and biological activity. The purpose of this study was to compare toxicity properties between aerobically and anaerobically fermented  Artocarpus altilis leaves  using brine shrimp lethality (BSL) test. Both types of fermented leaves were cold extracted using ethanol solvent (1:6) for 3 x 24 hours. Phytochemical screening was then performed to examine the presence of secondary metabolite compounds. BSL test was performed in 7 treatment groups, i.e., negative control, 1000, 500, 100, 50, 25, 12.5 ppm of extract. Each vial contained 10 Artemia larvae, extract, and sea water up to 10 ml. Toxicity is measured by calculating LC50 after 24 hours observation. The  experiment was repeated three times. The results of the study showed that LC50 of aerobic extract was 712 ppm, thus it can be categorized as toxic, while that of anaerobic extract is 1.927 ppm, or non-toxic to the Artemia salina larvae. In conclusion, aerobically fermented  Artocarpus altilis leaves had toxicity potency, while anaerobically fermented  Artocarpus altilis leaves had no toxicity potency against Artemia salina in BSL test. Key words: Artocarpus altilis, brine shrimp lethality test, toxicity.

Abstract

Butterfly pea flower (Clitoria Ternatea L.) contains flavonoids, tannins, and triterpenoids, which contain flavonoid compounds that have the potential as antioxidants. Antioxidants can suppress beta cell apoptosis without changing the proliferation of pancreatic beta cells. Antioxidants can bind free radicals so that they can reduce insulin resistance. The novelty of this study was that it examined the effectiveness of ethanol extract from butterfly pea flowers on reducing alloxan-induced male mice blood glucose levels. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the ethanol extract of butterfly pea flowers in reducing alloxan-induced blood glucose levels. The study used an experimental method with 5 treatments on 25 mice, beginning with purposive collection and processing of sample plants, preparation of Simplicia powder, preparation of ethanol extract of butterfly pea flowers, characteristic testing, determination of total ash content, determination of acid insoluble ash content, determination of extract content. Soluble in water, determination of ethanol soluble extract content, determination of water content, phytochemical screening, testing of antidiabetic activity of butterfly pea flower extract induced by alloxan. The examination results contained a total ash content of 5.20%, an acid-insoluble ash content of 1.16%, a water-soluble essence content of 47.94%, and a water content of 3.29%. The results of the compounds in the ethanol extract of butterfly pea flowers are alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. The results of testing blood glucose levels of ethanol extract of butterfly pea flower (EEBT) at a dose of 200mg/kg bb were known to be effective in reducing blood glucose after being induced by alloxan 150mg/kg bb with glucose levels of 319mg/dL dropping to 104.93mg/dL. The conclusion of the ethanol extract of the butterfly pea flower shows that the butterfly pea flower is efficacious as a blood glucose lowering agent in alloxan-induced mice (Mus musculus).

Abstract

Transparent soap is a type of soap for the face and body to cleanse and protect the skin from free radicals. Plums are fruits that have very high antioxidant capabilities, because they have the content of flavonoids and tannins. This research aims to make transparent soap with the addition of red and black plum juice and compare the antioxidant activity capabilities of soap. This research captures the process of taking cider, phytochemical screening, and soap making. Analysis is pH test, moisture content, foam stability, free alkaline, and antioxidant activity test with DPPH method. The results of the antioxidant activity test are very strong with a value of IC50 < 50 ppm namely red plum juice (30.83 ppm), black plum juice (47.74 ppm), red plum soap (16.52 ppm), black plum soap (12.08 ppm). Soap has a pH of negative blanko (8.5), positive blanko (8.3), red plum (8.6), black plum (8.0). Water content of blanko soap is negative (1.88), blanko positive (2.69), red plum (1.76), black plum (1.83). Negative blanko soap foam stability (50), positive blanko (20), red plum (45), black plum (65), and alkaline free negative blanko soap (0.04), positive blanko (0.08), red plum (0.05), black plum (0.06). Transparent soap meets the quality requirements in accordance with SNI 3532:2016.

Abstract

Background: The bark of Vitex pinnata L is not yet optimally utilized, primarily being used in boat construction while the remaining material becomes waste that is either buried or burned in trash. Therefore, it is necessary to explore more efficient and economically valuable uses for the bark of the laban tree. Objective: The aim of this research is to identify the chemical compounds, flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity present in the methanol extract of Vitex pinnata L bark. Method: Phytochemical screening was conducted on the methanol extract of Vitex pinnata L. bark. To obtain the extract, the simplicia powder was macerated using methanol as the solvent. The total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity were then tested using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhydrazil (DPPH) method. Results: the phytochemical screening indicated that the Vitex pinnata L. bark extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins. The total flavonoid test yielded 17.27%, and the antioxidant activity test revealed that the methanol extract of the laban tree bark has antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 43.22 ppm. Conclusion: This extract has strong potential as an antioxidant agent.
