In Islam there is an obligation to study, especially studying religion. In Indonesia, studying through tiered education has been guaranteed by the state. However, the fact that visually impaired children have learning difficulties so as not get the same educational rights as normal children initiated the authors to conduct this study. With limited vision, such visually impaired children are deprived of the right to learn. Therefore, in this study, the author tried to design a learning media design whose function is to make it easier for visually impaired children to learn to recognize hijaiyah letters. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the design of hijaiyah learning media, namely the smart book. The substance taken is that the hijaiyah letter is based on the reason that religious education for generations of Muslims is very important. There is also in religious education that must be mastered first is the main source, namely the Qur'an. Thus, recognizing the hijaiyah letters, the basis for reading the Qur’an, is important to master first. The preparation of this paper uses the prototype method of literature study which is solving community problems by tracing the sources of writings that have been made. The design created was developed with a pop-up book-based media that can be palpable and identified. The digital technology components used are voice recognition, raspberry pi 4, loudspeakers, and Braille letterboards. The advantages of the smart book besides the object that appears, when touched it will produce the sound of the name of the object, there is a correct way of reading according to the makhorijul letters, and there are tones in the reading. It is predicted that with learning media that is simple in design, it will be able to achieve learning goals effectively and efficiently. So, visually impaired children can learn easily and fun. Therefore, the development of related media according to the author needs to be disseminated to children with visual impairments to support their learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze how the value-based education system applied at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor contributes to the moral formation of students (santri), and how these morals serve as a foundation for building a civil society. It also seeks to explore strategies of value education that are adaptive to modern challenges while remaining rooted in Islamic principles. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The informants included the boarding school leaders, senior teachers, senior students, and alumni. The findings indicate that core values such as sincerity, simplicity, self-reliance, Islamic brotherhood, and responsible freedom are effectively internalized through daily habituation, role modeling, and a highly educational environment. These values shape the students into honest, disciplined, socially responsible individuals with strong empathy and leadership skills. The resulting character becomes essential social capital for building a civil society that is ethical, tolerant, just, and civilized. Furthermore, Gontor’s educational strategy has proven to be adaptive to globalization and technological advancement while maintaining a firm commitment to Islamic values. The study concludes that Gontor’s educational system not only forms pious individuals but also prepares its students to become transformative agents in society.

The findings reveal that leadership at this pesantren emphasizes role modeling (uswah), trust-based mentoring, and moralspiritual guidance in efforts to improve teacher performance. Teachers demonstrated significant improvements in lesson planning, implementation, and evaluation, driven by leadership grounded in Islamic values such as amanah (trustworthiness), ikhlas (sincerity), and syura (consultation). This research contributes theoretically by offering a contextual adaptation of the instructional leadership model in Islamic education. Practically, the findings provide a framework for pesantrens and Islamic schools seeking to enhance learning quality through valuebased leadership. Abstract

This study examines the styles and characteristics of women’s leadership in strengthening quality assurance in Islamic higher education institutions and identifies the challenges and strategies involved in institutional change. Using a qualitative two-site multiple-case study design, the research was conducted at Muhammadiyah University PKU Surakarta and ‘Aisyiyah University of Surakarta. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving key informants from institutional leadership and quality assurance units. Data was analyzed thematically through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that women leaders in both institutions demonstrate predominantly transformational leadership, characterized by visionary and adaptive direction, empathetic communication, and a sustained commitment to strengthening internal quality assurance systems. Their leadership is reflected in firm yet humanistic governance, integrity in meeting accreditation standards, and active change agency in cultivating a quality culture and improving human resource capacity. Key challenges include resistance to mindset change, uneven human resource capacity, regulatory complexity, digital transformation, and external competitive pressures. Overall, the study highlights women’s strategic capacity to advance institutional quality through collaborative, systematic, and value-based governance in Islamic higher education.
