Abstract

This qualitative research investigated real events in the case of immigrant parents in raising their multilingual children. This focused to find out what kinds of the parenting style to make their children multilingual, how the processes occurred, and what the language problems during the multilingual children process were. In conducting this research, natural social phenomenon methods in interview transcript, field notes, visual materials, photographs, video recordings, documented human experiences whose data were collected and analyzed. There were three findings, they were (1) there are two styles of parenting applied by 8 parents, involves: 7 parents applied the authoritative parenting styles, and 1 parents applied authoritarian style in raising their multilingual children. (2) There are many processes that are done by parents in raising their multilingual children. Dominantly, multilingual children have used to learn multilingual languages from their parents and environments, their parents always familiarize themselves to always be able to adjust in social, cultural, habits, geographical residence, and so on, which is always supported by the situations, and conditions occurred at that time. (3) There are only two kids are found to have a problem, namely dyslexia and code switching.

Abstract

Music and song is the part of this world of songs, an art based on the organization of sound in time. But many of them do not know about the meaning and messages of the song lyrics which they listen. In this thesis the writer would find out the figurative language of Islamic song by Maher Zain which has deep meaning and more messages for the listener, not only enjoy listening to music but also the listener and reader will gets knowledge about Islam more increase. The aims of the research are: To find out the types of figurative language are used in Maher Zain‟s songs, and to find out the most dominant figurative language in Maher Zain‟s songs. In this research, the writer used the qualitative research since the data are in the form of written or oral words the techniques of collecting data, the collected from the song lyrics. entitled “Insya Allah‟ by Maher Zain released in November 2009. And the writer did 8 steps to the techniques of analysis data, follows: listening the songs, reading the song lyrics, underlining the word which related in figurative language, identifying, classifies certain lyrics, reanalyzed the song lyrics, and coding.

Abstract

This research deals with the Writing Skill. The problems of this research are to know the improving students’ writing skill of the eighth grade students of Junior high school in MTsN 1 Deli Serdang in the academic year of 2021/2022. The objective of this research is to find out the use of the Instagram Stories can improve students‟ writing skills especially in descriptive text. The method will use pre-experimental method. The population of this research is the eighth-grade students of Junior high school in MTsN 1 Deli Serdang in the academic year of 2021/2022. The sample consisted 25 students participants. The instrument will use the test, which was distributed in pre-test and post-test sessions.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berupa pelatihan penguasaan akan teknologi tepat guna dalam hal digital marketing dan penggunaan Bahasa asing dalam memasarkan produk kerajinan limbah anorganik. Strategi pemasaran dan teknologi sebagai cara ampuh untuk meningakatkan keunggulan yang kompetitif. Mitra yang akan terlibat dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah para siswa/i MTs Negeri 1 Deli Serdang, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Kontribusi mitra adalah penyediaan tempat pelatihan beserta fasilitas pendukung. Kegiatan luaran ini difokuskan pada produk barang kerajinan berupa souvenir yang dibuat dari limbah anorganik rumah tangga seperti serbuk kayu, kain perca, aneka plastik bekas kemasan. Untuk menunjang keberlangsungan kegiatan ekonomi ini maka perlu dibentuk Sentra Souvenir di lingkungan sekitar khalayak sasaran yang akan digunakan untuk mengembangkan sistem produksi dan pemasaran yang mendukung serta terciptanya wirausaha yang handal.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berupa pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi e-leraning Google Classroom bagi guru dalam hal peningkatan kualitas pengetahuan mengajar di masa pandemi covid 19. Mitra yang terlibat dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah para guru-guru MTs Negeri 1 Deli Serdang, Propinsi Sumatera Utara. Hasil yang ditemukan adalah guru MTs Negeri 1 Deli Serdang telah dapat menguasai dan memahami penggunaan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi dengan baik guna menunjang keberlangsungan kegiatan pembelajaran jarak jauh (PJJ) yang efektif dan efesien.

Abstract

Melaksanakan Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat bagi dosen merupakan salah satu tugas sebagai pelaksanaan Tridarma perguruan tinggi termasuk pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah suatu upaya STMIK Pelita Nusantara Medan agar terlaksananya Tridarma perguruan tinggi untuk memberikan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi kepada masyarakat. Pada pengabdian ini dilakukan pada STMIK Pelita Nusantara yang mengambil tema Peningkatan Kemampuan Bahasa Inggris Berekuivalensi TOEFL Bagi Mahasiswa STMIK Pelita Nusantara secara Online yang bertujuan memberikan bekal kemampuan dan pengetahuan dalam hal pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara online. Permasalah yang dialami mitra yakni masih kurangnya kemampuan Mahasiswa dalam mempelajari bahasa inggris berekuivalensi toefl secara online. Hal inilah yang melatar belakangi pelaksanaan PKM yang berjudul Peningkatan Kemampuan Bahasa Inggris Berekuivalensi TOEFL Bagi Mahasiswa STMIK Pelita Nusantara secara Online. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Manajemen dan Informatika Komputer dengan metode ceramah, diskusi dan praktikum langsung. Melalui kegiatan ini, diharapkan ketrampilan dan pemahaman mahasiswa dapat meningkat terkait penggunaan aplikasi dalam pembelajaran online.

Abstract

Hal inilah yang melatar belakangi pelaksanaan PKM yang berjudul Pelatihan Blended Learning Dengan Google Classroom Bagi SMP Negeri 2 Satu Atap STM Hilir. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Sekolah SMP Negeri 2 Satu Atap STM Hilir. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan pembelajaran yang aktif, kreatif dan menyenangkan. Melalui kegiatan ini, para guru diharapkan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan dan pemahaman terkait penggunaan aplikasi dalam pembelajaran online.

Abstract

Abstract. This study deals with the student’s difficulties in using participle in sentences. The purposes of the study were to find out whether or not the students found difficulties in using participle in sentence and to find out the type of difficulties they faced.The population of the study was the 2020/2021 of the Mechanic Otomotif (MO) students at SMK YAPIM Kabanjahe. In this sampling, all the population has equal chance to be selected for the sample. The total numbers of samples was 30 students. The instrument used to collect the data was multiple choice test. This research was conducted by applying the descriptive quantitative design. The reliability of the test is counted by using KR21 formula. The formula testing result showed that the reliability of the test was 0,89, it means that the test was very good. The finding showed that the students found some difficulties in using participle, they were : Present Participle (8,67 %), Past Participle (9,34 %) and Perfect Participle (9,33 %). Perfect Participle was regarded as the most difficult type for them, especially in using it after certain verbs and in replacing relative pronoun, and then followed Past Participle by especially in using in it replacing relative pronoun and after certain verb. And the last was Present Participle. The percentage of each difficulty was taken by dividing the wrong answer to the total correct answer of the test.

Abstract

The objectives of this descriptive qualitative study were (1) to find out the student’s ability in TOEFL and (2) to identify the TOEFL sub skills which were required in the improvement. Twenty three students of class MI V Reguler and Executive Class in STMIK Pelita Nusantara Lubuk Pakam were conducted as participants. To examine students’ TOEFL scores, a paper-based TOEFL test was used. The test scores were used to find out the students’ ability at the beginning of the study. Then, the results were analyzed to identify the students’ problem in sub-skills of TOEFL. The data were identified and sub-skill was identified based on Phillips (2003). The findings of the study showed that: (1) the fifth semester students’ ability of STMIK Pelita Nusantara in doing TOEFL test is at Poor level with the most dominant score is below 400, consists of 21 students in that level with 91.30%. Then, there were only a few students, 2 persons with the percentage 8.69%. (2) the fifth semester students’ of STMIK Pelita Nusantara Nusantara is considered as the most difficult for them with the avarage of 5.28 is the listening, while reading section is considered as the easiest one for the fifth semester students of STMIK Pelita Nusantara, with the average of 6.94. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that overall all of the students in this study required further training to improve their TOEFL scores; therefore, it recommended the development of module and training plans according to the outcomes of this analysis study.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of using Canva Application in enhancing students’ speaking skill. Researchers used a quantitative method which is pre-experimental research design by applying pre-test and post-test based on the indicators of speaking skill, namely: pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. There were 2 results found, 1) very good level (46.43%) was the most dominant in speaking skill, and fair level (7.14%) was the least of speaking skill by using Canva Application. 2) There were a differentiate between the result of students’ achievement in pre-test and post-test. Therefore, Canva Application is new and effective application in digital learning especially in enhancing students’ speaking skill.
