Pelatihan ini merupakan salah satu pengabdian masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dan pengetahuan anak-anak Desa JaringHalus melalui pengenalan kosa-kosa Bahasa Inggris menggunakan media gambar. Berdasarkan observasi ditemukan bahwa kemampuan BahasaInggris anak-anak desa jaring halus masih rendah. Pelatihan ini dilakukan di Desa Jaring Halus, Kecamatan Secanggang, Kabupaten Langkat. Pelatihan ini terdiri dari delapan instrukur yang merupakan Dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris STKIP Al Maksum Langkat dan Lima belas anak-anak Desa Jaring Halus. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 9 Maret 2020. Materi pelatihan terdiri dari beberapa jenis kosa kata Bahasa inggris. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa sepuluh anak memiliki kemampuan rendah setelah mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan kosa-kata Bahasa inggris. Sementara itu, lima anak memiliki kemampuan menengah setelah mengikuti kegiatan Bahasa inggris. Dengan kata lain, pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan lima anak dari rendah menuju menengah. Pelatihan ini diharapkan agar dilakukan secara berkelanjutan agar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan anak-anak Desa Jaring Halus, Kecamatan Secanggang, Kabupaten Langkat.

Bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa internasional di era globalisasi saat ini. Bahasa Inggris penting untuk dipelajari karena digunakan sebagai alat komunikasi internasional. Sebagai bahasa pengantar internasional, Bahasa Inggris hendaklah diajarkan kepada anak-anak sedini mungkin, agar mereka mampu bersaing di Era Globalisasi seperti saat ini. MTS Al-Ikhlas merupkan salah satu sekolah yang juga bergerak di bidang sosial yaitu sebuah pesantren yang berada di Pangkalan Susu, Langkat. Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris dengan metode permainan sangatlah digemari untuk tingkat dasar hingga menengah. Penyajain ‘bermain sambil belajar’ dapat meningkatkan minat dan semangat mereka dalam pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Pengajaran dengan metode ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan serta semangat siswa/I MTS Al-Ikhlas dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas nantinya. Beberapa jenis game berbasis Bahasa Inggris diterapkan dalam proses belajar, yang membuat siswa/I tidak menyadari disamping mereka bermain, mereka juga sedang belajar. Penambahan vocabulary pada tiap ‘game’ dapat dijadikan bekal untuk proses belajar selanjutnya.

Kegiatan pengabdian aplikasi Ice Breaking dalam pembelajaran inibertujuan untuk membekali guru-guru SMA Negeri 1 Gebang agar dapat kreatif dalam merancang kegiatan awal pembelajaran. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan metode pelatihan melalui tiga tahapan yaitu : praperencanaan program melalui kegiatan survey awal untuk mengidentifikasi masalah mitra, analisis, dan solusi pemecahan masalah. Tahap perencanaan dengan melakukan disain kegiatan dan tahap kegiatan pelatihan dalam bentuk workshop aplikasi hasil perencanaan. Solusi pemecahan masalah mitra yang dilakukan pada kegiatan ini adalah transfer knowledge melalui penyajian materi tentang teknik-teknik Ice Breaking serta aplikasi dalam kegiatan awal pembelajaran. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa program dapat dilaksanakan dengan baik sesuai dengan kinginan mitra serta memiliki manfaat yang positif bagi mitra serta terlaksana sesuai rencana program. Hal ini terlihat dengan antusias mitra dalam mengikuti kegiatan dari awal sampai akhir serta hasil angket kuisioner kepuasan mitra yang menyatakan bahwa 83,2% peserta ingin kembali dilibatkan dalam kegiatan sejenis serta meningkatnya hasil nilai post-test sebesar 58,93% dari nilai pre-test, yang artinya materi yang disampaikan tentang Ice Breaking dapat dipahami dengan baik oleh mitra dan akan diaplikasikan oleh mitra dalam kegiatan awal pembelajaran di kelasnya. Saran yang dapat diberikan adalah agar mengoptimalkan kegiatan sejenis secara bekala dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. Kata Kunci: Pelatihan, Ice Breaking, SMA Negeri 1 Gebang. ABSTRACT This Community Service activity aims to motivate the teachers of SMA Negeri 1 Gebang to be creative in designing the pre-learning activities. The method carried out in this activity was a training method which consist of three stages, namely: pre-planning program by doing survey in order to identify and analysis the partner’s problem as well as the problem solving solutions. The second stage was planning where the timdesigned, then the last stage was conducting training activities in the form of workshop. The partner’s problem solving solution carried out in this activity was by doing transfer of knowledge to the participants by presenting the materials related to Ice Breaking techniques and its applications on pre-learning activities. The results of this activity indicated that the program could be implemented properly in accordance with the partner’s need and had positive infact to the partners. It could be seen from the enthusiasm of partners in participating in activities from beginning to end and the results of the partner’s satisfaction questionnaire was 83.2% of participants wanted to be involved again in similar activities in the future. It was also found that post-test scores increase 58.93% from the pre-test scores, which means that the material presented could be well understood by the partners and will be applied by partners on pre-learning activities in their class. It was suggested that the similar activities should be periodically conducted in order to improve the learning quality. Keywords: Workshop, Ice Breaking, SMA Negeri 1 Gebang.

This study investigated students’ problem encountered during listeningactivities in STKIP Al Maksum Langkat. The subjects wereeighty-three students of the first semester of English Department StudyProgram. Basic qualitative studies suggest by Ary adopted in thisstudy. Questionaries and interview administered in order to collect thedata. The data informed that there were difficulties faced by thestudents in the listening activities, they were the speakers’ speed, theaccent of the speaker, unknown words, and difficulties in recognizingmain points. It was expected that enhancing students’ motivation topractice listening with authentic materials and in every learningactivities administering authentic materials deemed necessary in orderto insincere a real situation of native talks and conversation tounderstand the culture and points in their talks. Acquiring amounts ofvocabularies expected enhanced by the students in order to ease thelistening activities.

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the perception of iEnglish Language Education students at STKIP AL MAKSUM Langkat towards online learning via Moodle during th Covid-19 pandemic. The qualitative descriptive method was carried out by distributing questionnaires using Google Form to 45 students of English Education STKIP AL MAKSUM Langkat. The questionnaire was distributed after completing the learning process for 3 months. The results of this study state that the use of the Moodle application provides a new experience in online learning activities, students can easily operate several features of the Moodle application, the learning process expects students to use the Moodle application, the Moodle application is one of e-learnin ithat can support learning activities online, the use of the Moodle application because classmates agree to use the Moodle application, and students can use the Moodle application easily in carrying out online learning activities.

This final project is entitled The Effect of Using Mind MappingTechnique on Students’ Writing Recount Text. It was held in SMP Tunas Pelita Binjai. The objective of the study was to find mind mapping techniques effect on teaching students'. The population of this study was the eighth-grade students of SMP Tunas Pelita Binjai. The subject of the study was 36 students. There are two classes and each class consist of 18 students. There were six meetings in the research. One meeting was for the pre-test for each class, four meetings for teaching technique and another one meeting for the post-test for each class. The post-test was held in the last meeting. In the pre-test, the students were asked to write a recount text. The average of the students’ scores by mind mapping was 63.2, and the post-test was 77,2. The average of the students’ scores by Conventional Class was 62.6 and the post-test was 67,7. The result is 7.36 >5.1 >2.92. It means that the mind mapping technique effect on teaching students, writing recount text. The more significant technique for this case is mind mapping is more significant than the Conventional Method. The study demonstrates that teaching and learning by following the mind mapping techniques can use in writing recount text. I hope this result is able be used by other teachers to enable students to write recount texts. Keywords: writing, recount text, Mind Mapping Technique

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelisik persepsi mahasiswa semester I Prodi PBI STKIP Al Maksum Langkat terhadap pemanfaatan aplikasi WA dalam pembelajaran mendengarkan selama daring di masa pandemi Covid-19. Delapan puluh tiga mahasiswa dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini. Metode kualitatif dasar sebagaimana yang disarankan Ary digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Angket tertutup berskala Likert empat poin dan wawancara digunakan sebagai metode pengumpulan data. Analisis statistik dasar digunakan untuk menganalisis data angket yang disebar lewat Google Form. Pengkodean terhadap jawaban wawancara digunakan untuk menganalisis data wawancara yang untuk selanjutnya dirunutkan hingga membentuk pola tertentu lalu diinterpretasikan. Hasil penelitian ini menginformasikan bahwa sebagian kecil dari mahasiswa Prodi PBI beranggapan bahwa pembelajaran mendengarkan yang memanfaatkan aplikasi WA selama daring kurang efektif, karena pembelajaran daring yang memanfaatkan aplikasi WA ini merupakan hal yang baru bagi mereka. Namun secara keseluruhan, secara dominan persepsi mahasiswa positif terhadap pemanfaatan aplikasi WA dalam pembelajaran mendengarkan selama daring.

Kemampuan menentukan metode pembelajaran yang tepat bagi siswa usia TK dianggap sangat perlu dimiliki oleh guru Sekolah TK. Hal ini untuk menunjang keberhasilan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris yang merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang harus dikuasi oleh Siswa agar dapat berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Inggris dengan akurat, lancar dan berterima di jenjang berikutnya nanti. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan kemampuan guru TK Salimah dalam memperkenalkan bahasa Inggris kepada siswa/i TK Salimah Binjai. Sebanyak dua guru TK Salimah Binjai Kota mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 11 Pebruari 2019. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat menunjukkan peserta aktif dan antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat. Hasil evaluasi dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yakni penambahan durasi dan waktu pengenalan bahasa Inggris dan pelatihan dilaksanakan secara berkelanjutan.

Providing English learning material with developing reading E-Module Based on Langkat Sultanate History is important as English Department Study of STKIP Al-Maksum Langkat. This research aims to develop Reading e-Module Based on Langkat Sultanate History, to increase students’ awareness about Langkat Sultanate History and to promote local wisdom at Langkat District. This research is concerned with the development of an English reading e-Module for students of the English department study of STKIP Al-Maksum by applying the four phase Research and Development (R & D) proposed by Gall, Gall & Borg (2003). At the define stage, first, the author decides to create the requirements to create the e-Module following the need analysis. Furthermore, at the design stage, the author creates the initial design (prototype) e-Module. The results of the study show that the module that has been developed is valid, practical and effective. The validity of the module reaches a valid category based on the expert’s and validator’s evaluation. It is hoped that they will be able to continue to raise local culture or local wisdom in Indonesia as a learning module to preserve Indonesian culture for students.

This study purposively conducted to investigate the EFL students’ feeling during online learning in the pandemic situation and confirm their assumption on their teachers’ approach providing the online classes. A survey to the seventy-seven students of STKIP Al Maksum Langkat was conducted. The psychometrically validated short form consists of nine positively-phrased items proposed by Resnik & Dewaele (2021) were distributed via Google Form which were classified in to three categories: ‘personal enjoyment’ (e.g., “In my online or ‘in-person’ English class, I feel proud of my accomplishmentsâ€), ‘social enjoyment’ (e.g., “We laugh a lot†in the online class) and ‘teacher appreciation’ (to what extent the teacher is perceived as encouraging, friendly and supportive). The result asserted that students mostly strongly agree that there was no boredom in their online learning due to their understanding about school-closure because of the pandemic. Further, online learning environment affecting students’ low participation so that their collaboration in the online classes straitened their feeling. Nevertheless, the perspectives of the teachers on the situation as well as their understanding of the advantages of online appliances have an effect on the enjoyment of the students.
