Abstract

Everyone should get an education, whether rich or poor people. Education is one of the efforts that must be prepared to welcome a better future. The better the education we get, the better the lifestyle we feel. Unfortunately, there are still many Indonesian children who do not get an education. Poverty, lack of parental responsibility and laziness are factors that cause a child to not get an education. Not getting an education decided them to go down and make a living on the street. These children are what we usually called as street children. In this regard, it is important to conduct coaching activities for these children through counseling, by explaining the importance of education for street children

Abstract

The purpose of this reseach was to analyze the lecturers' metacognitive learning strategies in teaching English for young learner at English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu Academic year 2018/2019. The designof the research used descriptive qualitative method. The objects of this research were 60 students with open questionnaire. The instrument was check list form about metacognitive strategies skills by Anderson and Krathwohl. The researcher found that although not fully applied, with this metacognitive strategy students are more independent in learning and lecturers do not provide material repeatedly.The lecturers should consider several teaching strategies, especially metacognitive strategies.

Abstract

The aims of this research are at investigating the interactional meta-discourse and the most dominant interactional meta-discourse category in the background of the undergraduate thesis introductions written by English students of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. This study involved thirty-three backgrounds of the undergraduate thesis introductions by English students of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu in 2019 academic year. This study followed the meta-discourse framework of Hyland (2009) in investigating the interactional meta-discourse in the corpus of the research. The results of this research show that five categories of interactional meta-discourse found in the in the backgrounds of the undergraduate thesis introductions written by English students of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu in 2019 academic year, namely 216 or 37.3% hedges, 166 or 28.6% attitude markers, 104 or 18% self-mention, 77 or 13.2% boosters, and 16 or 2.9% engagement markers. In addition, the most dominant of interactional meta-discourse category found in the backgrounds of the undergraduate thesis introductions is hedges. The findings of this research give implications for the students in order to include more frequent and vary of interactional meta-discourse in writing the backgrounds of the undergraduate thesis introductions.

Abstract

Program Kampus Mengajar adalah salah satu program Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) yang dirancang oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia (Kemendikbud) dan didukung oleh Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) Kementerian Keuangan. Kegiatan ini dimulai pada 24 Februari sampai dengan 29 Juni 2022. Dalam hal administrasi sekolah kami membantu dalam penginput-an data siswa baik dari pendataan untuk beasiswa atau bantuan dan pengisian raport. Untuk kegiatan literasi dan numerasi kami menerapkan beberapa model pembelajaran dan kerap kali mengajak siswa ke perpustakaan untuk membebaskan siswa mencari bahan ajar yang sesuai. Dalam hal adaptasi teknologi, kami sangat memanfaatkannya dalam belajar dan merupakan salah satu model pembelajaran kami yaitu ICT memanfaatkan teknologi dalam menemukan bahan ajar, pelatihan mengenai penggunaan media belajar seperti penggunaan video-video youtube ataupun materi-materi yang berasal dari internet. Hasil dari program Kampus Mengajar ini yaitu sebagai proses dalam menambah relasi, menambah pengalaman di luar dunia perkuliahan, mengembangkan wawasan, karakter dan soft skills mahasiswa, mendorong dan memacu pembangunan nasional dengan menumbuhkan motivasi masyarakat untuk berpartisipasi dalam pembangunan, serta meningkatkan peran dan kontribusi nyata perguruan tinggi dan mahasiswa dalam pembangunan nasional.

Abstract

Abstract: The problem faced by the children of Bumi Sari village is the excessive use of gadgets. For this reason, one of the efforts that can be done is to conduct counseling on the Impact of Negative Gadgets for Children in Bumi Sari Village, Ujan Mas District, Kepahiang Regency. This is an effort that can be done so that children gain knowledge about the impact of excessive use of gadgets. This activity was carried out at the UMB Student Community Service Secretariat in Bumi Sari Village. This event is Followed by 20 participants consisting of children and adolescents. The counseling activity discussed the Negative Impact of Gadgets on the Development of Children's Language Skills. Discussion and Questions and Answers are a form of activity carried out during the extension. Participants had very high enthusiasm during this counseling event, from the beginning to the end of the event. Untuk itu salah satu upaya yang bisa dilakukan adalah melakukan penyuluhan mengenai Dampak Negative Gadget Bagi Anak-Anak didesa Bumi Sari Kecamatan Ujan Mas Kabupaten Kepahiang. Ini merupakan upaya yang bisa dilakukan agar anak-anak mendapatkan pengetahuan tentang dampak penggunaan Gadget secara berlebihan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di Sekre KKN Mahasiswa UMB di desa Bumi Sari. Diikuti sebanyak 20 peserta yang terdiri dari anak-anak dan remaja. Kegiatan penyuluhan membahas tentang Dampak Negatif Gadget Terhadap Perkembangan Kemampuan Berbahasa Anak. Diskusi dan Tanya jawab adalah bentuk kegiatan yang dilakukan selama penyuluhan berlangsung. Peserta memiliki antusias yang sangat tinggi selama mengikuti acara penyuluhan ini, mulai dari awal sampai akhir acara.Kata kunci: Anak-anak; gadget; penyuluhan

Abstract

The number of stimulus numbers that hamper economic growth in the regions to the effect on the national. The Ministry of Education and Culture is promoting education and training programs specifically for people of productive age who are not yet working. Through cooperation with designated training and course institutions as partners in organizing activities. The Essential English Center is one of the institutions trusted as a partner of the Ministry of Education and Culture to organize a Work Skills Education Program (PKK) by providing skills, especially Level II English, to people of productive age and not yet working in Bengkulu without charging tuition fees from participants. With the implementation of the training program, it is hoped that the participants will gain knowledge and skills in English which will be useful for increasing their competitiveness in getting a job

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the expectations of students in microteaching classes about peer teaching results. This analysis used descriptive methods. Sixth semester students who were pursuing microteaching subjects at the Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu's English education program were the focus of the study. In this analysis, the investigator used the questionnaire as a guide. The questionnaire was approved and updated from the Professional Growth and Evaluation Handbook for Teacher (2015). The result showed that students perspective on peer teaching success in microteaching classes was classified as negative. It suggests that students should practice a great deal to improve their better teaching efficiency, and it also indicated that students should be taught how to make a good lesson plan before teaching practice to establish an efficient teaching learning process for lecturers. Keywords : Microteaching, Teaching Performance, Students Perceptions.

Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate the strategy of self instruction which is applied by English students as pre-service teacher in following microteaching. The researcher used a descriptive quantitative data to obtain the data about self instruction implemented by students in following microteaching class. The population of this research was 6th semester of English students who enrolled Microteaching class at the English Education Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu Academic Year 2020/2021. There were 46 students who become the population of this research. The researcher used a questionnaire and observation checklist as the instrument of this research. The finding showed that there were five strategies of self instruction namely; cognitive modelling stage, overt external guidance, overt self guidance, faded overt self guidance, and covert self instruction. Moreover, the dominant role of lecturer was Overt External Guidance. Keywords: Self Instruction Strategy, Microteaching Class

Abstract

Test items or questions play an important role as a tool to measure the students’ ability in a process, like the process of education and learning. The objectives of this research are to find out the kinds of higher order thinking skill used by English teachers and to find out the dominant kinds of higher order thinking skill used by English teachers in designing test items at SMAN Argamakmur. This study used descriptive study which tries to potrait the use of Higher Order Thinking Skills in designing test items. This research used test items designed by English teachers in SMAN Argamakmur. The researcher asked permission to the teachers to copy the latest test items. The instruments of this research was observation checklist. In collecting the data, the researcher used the composition of higher order tinking skills. The data was collected based on the reading task on the test items designed by English teachers. There were two conclusions of this research; firts, the kinds of higher order thinking skill used by English teachers in designing test items at SMAN Argamakmur were analyzing, evaluating, and creating. Second, the dominant kind of higher order thinking skill used by English teachers in designing test items at SMAN Argamakmur was analyzing. Keywords : Higher Order Thinking Skills, Test Items

Abstract

The objective of this study was to figure out whether there is any correlation between students’ motivation and English learning achievement at Grade XI Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu. In this research, the researcher used Correlational research in a quantitative design. In correlational method, the researcher used the correlation statistical test to describe and measure between two variables. The population of this study was the whole students of XI grade MAN 1 Bengkulu City with total students 355. The researcher took all of population as the sample of the research. Therefore, the sample of this research was about 350 students at eleventh grade MAN Model Bengkulu. To obtain the data, the researcher used questionnaire and documentation as the instruments of this research. The questionnaire of students’ motivation was adopted from The Attitude / Motivation Test Battery by R. C Gardner cited in (Rafasah, 2019). Moreover, the students’ learning achievement was identified by collecting the students’ English score in UTS or UAS or daily test. After collecting and analyzing the data, the researcher found that the sign. (2-tailed) Pearson correlation = 0.00 > 0.05 which means that there was a correlation between students’ motivation and English learning achievement at XI A students of SMAN 1 Kota Bengkulu. The researcher suggested for English teachers in developing some strategies to facilitate the students to have a good motivation. The researcher also suggested for the students to be more active in practicing English even though this research findings showed that the students’ motivation was good.
