Abstract

The purpose of the research is to find out the students’ ability in writing, especially writing recount text by using Facebook as a medium of discussion. In the classroom students set up their Cellphone to write and discuss a recount text. The research question is “Is there any significant effect on students writing recount text by using face book as medium for discussion on Senior High School students?” In the preliminary study it was found that the students’ writing ability was low. Hence, the writer is interested in trying to solve the students’ problem by using Facebook as a medium of discussion. The design of this research was an experimental research. The sample for this research consisted of 25 students. The result of this research found that Facebook as medium for discussion significantly affect the students writing ability. Abstract

Abstract—Learning a foreign language by using social media at the University level is very important because social media has great potential to support student-centered learning as they are flexible, interactive, and resource–rich in nature. One of its drawbacks is the quality of online instruction that lead to unfavorable perception and perspective of the students. The objectives of this research are to analyze the students’ perceptions and perspectives in using Social Media as a tool in English Language learning. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected from the students of the English Study Program, Faculty of Education, the Islamic University of Riau. Research finding revealed that social media is very practical and useful for getting general information, knowledge and to increase their language competency. Abstract

Learning a foreign language by using social media is getting important because it has great potential to support student-centered learning, as it is flexible, interactive, and content–rich in nature. This research was aimed to develop an English listening comprehension model by using Social Media You tube. A Research and Development methodology ADDIE was used: analyzing students’ and teachers’ needs, designing a new learning materials, Developing material, Implementing it in a group, and evaluating the existing learning materials, validating the learning materials by experts, revising learning materials, trying out the learning materials, and revising learning materials. It was found that the existing learning materials were not appropriate for the students’ characteristics and were not organized in a systematic way. Students and lecturers indicated that they appreciated enjoyable English language learning materials such as songs, stories and games using You Tube. Based on these findings a new model for developing materials was developed for English Listening Comprehension Program at the Islamic University of Riau.

Abstract

A framework called TPACK outlines the knowledge that instructors require in order to incorporate technology into the planning, carrying out, and assessing of learning. TPACK integrates diverse learning tactics, combining appropriate technology with thinking strategies for when, when, and how to employ technology knowledge, pedagogy, and material. Integration of technology in teaching is carried out by teachers at SMA Negeri Olahraga Riau. The aim of this study is to explain the teachers’ perception of TPACK in the teaching process at SMA Negeri Olahraga Riau. The method was descriptive quantitative, a survey research design with a sample of 30 teachers. The entire sampling method is employed. The major tool for gathering data was the questionnaire. The data were obtained by descriptive analysis, using the sum of the scores, the mean, and the standard deviation, and then were descriptively interpreted. The results indicate that most teachers believe their level to be quite high. Measured by averaging the seven TPACK indicators—technological knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge, technological pedagogical knowledge, technological content knowledge, and technological pedagogical knowledge—into a single score. The results suggest that teachers have the skills necessary to incorporate the TPACK framework into their lesson plans.

Abstract

Using social media in teaching listening requires creativity and modification in order to be suitable for learning. The aim of this research is to identify the learners' need for developing assisted-social media learning material in listening comprehension course at the Islamic University of Riau, Indonesia. The study involved undergraduate students taking listening comprehension subject who were selected through cluster random sampling. Along with the students, 5 lecturers were also involved. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire, interviews guide, and observation sheet. The questionnaire was centered on two main categories: Target need analysis and learning need analysis, drawing on the theoretical framework of Hutchinson and Waters (1987). Both analysis results revealed that the challenges faced by students while learning listening comprehension with the help of social media have a notable influence, mainly because of the discrepancy between the anticipated methods of learning and the actual internal factors that drive students to acquire effective listening skills. This situation is likely to contribute to the enhancement of their speaking abilities to meet their specific goals. As a result, meeting these goals requires additional support in terms of psychological, motivational, and material aspects. Overall, these findings provide valuable insights for designing and developing a tailor-made English learning material assisted by social media that meets the specific needs of the learners in the future particularly in listening comprehension course.

Abstract

Literasi numerasi adalah kemampuan memahami dan menggunakan simbol serta angka untuk menyelesaikan masalah dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Berdasarkan hasil survei, tingkat literasi numerasi di Indonesia masih tergolong rendah. Hal ini dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor, termasuk kemampuan menyelesaikan masalah matematika dan tingkat literasi siswa. Selain itu, banyak siswa sekolah dasar yang kurang termotivasi untuk membaca dan berhitung. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan literasi dan numerasi siswa melalui program "Pojok Baca," khususnya dalam membaca teks berbahasa Inggris. Sasaran kegiatan adalah siswa SD IT Diniah Pekanbaru. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup pendampingan melalui survei, sosialisasi, pelatihan, pembelajaran, dan evaluasi. Hasil program menunjukkan peningkatan kemandirian siswa sebesar 65% dan kemampuan literasi numerasi sebesar 55%. Program "Pojok Baca" ini berpotensi dikembangkan lebih lanjut menjadi "Pojok Digital" untuk mendukung literasi digital.

Abstract

Facebook adalah salah satu website jaringan sosial yang sekarang sedang meningkat popularitasnya dan jumlah anggotanya meningkat tajam dalam waktu yang singkat.Siswa bertugas untuk belajar dan menuntut ilmu, karena masa remaja adalah masa-masa transisiyang ingin sekali diperhatikan, facebook adalah sebuah websiteyang dapat membuat para remaja ini lebih ekspresif menonjolkan dirinya, keinginanya, dan profilnya. Sehingga para siswa ini akan terus menerus bermain facebook sehingga pekerjaan rumahnya terganggu dan membuat waktu tersita dengan banyak dengan bermain situs tersebut.Konsep teori yang peneliti gunakan adalah model komunikasi Stimulus – Respon. Untuk mengetahui stimulus yang ditimbulkan dari sebuah promosi efektif, diperlukanpengetahuan tentang faktor yang mempengaruhi seseorang dalam menerima, mempertimbangkan informasi dan mengambil keputusan dalam membeli produk yang ditawarkan.Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif.Untuk mengukur kekuatan antara dua variabel, yaitu media sosialfacebook sebagai variabel independen dan motivasi belajar siswa sebagai variabel dependen, digunakan simple regression atau sering juga disebut regresi sederhana.Dari hasil Uji t diperoleh nilai thitung untuk variable Media sosial facebooksebesar 2,800 (lebih besar dari ttabel sebesar 1,983), dan PValue sebesar 0,000< 0,05,) maka hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Media sosial facebook mempengaruhi Motivasi belajar siswa SMA-IT Imam syafe’i Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine English teachers' strategies in teaching reading comprehension to seventh-grade students in junior high school. This research was designed as descriptive qualitative research. The research participants were two English teachers who teach in the seventh grade of the school. Each English teacher had two meetings, during which the researcher observed them. The research instruments were observation and interview. The instruments were used to determine the teachers' strategies for teaching reading comprehension. The data results were analyzed and broken down into three stages: Data reduction, Data Display, and Concluding. The result showed that Teacher A used Question Answer Relationship Strategy (QAR), and Teacher B used a Graphic Organizer Strategy. Both teachers applied strategies that were very effective in teaching reading comprehension in that school. The students’ motivation proved it, as did their attention and the teachers’ ease in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

In spite of its emergence in 1980s, digital media has been well known to this day, yet it is still questioned whether its presence is merely a "disturbance" or a "diversion" after contradictory impacts of digital media usage have been found based on several conducted studies. Answering the question, library research was carried out by using some sources and references in getting and analyzing the data. Then, the writers integrated their ideas by synthesizing in drawing conclusion. Delving into the essence of four learning theories (behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and connectivism) and their integration with technology, particular media use and their functions are recognized through a systematic procedure in certain digital learning approach as one alternative for teachers in selecting and utilizing digital media in learning process. It was found that, firstly, the comprehension basic learning philosophy serves as fundamental reasons for teachers in utilizing technology. Secondly, the learning theories play as the base for teachers to develop their teaching approaches by maximizing their digital competence through digital technology use for improving their digital literacy. Lastly, the ownership of knowledge and skill for instructional digital media use develops teachers’ digital competence by recognizing students’ need in learning. In a nutshell, the choice for digital media utilization has to be supported by understanding the intensive relation between teachers and their learners’ roles and the instructional strategies in integrating media and technology used which will awaken not only teachers’ digital literacy, but especially their digital competence as well, as displayed through their ability to be intricately connected to digital media use. Therefore, the comprehensive understanding of learning theories approach of teachers and their ways in utilizing media-based technology determines the function of the media itself whether it is distraction or diversion during teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Many people use social media as a way to connect to their friends and families and increasingly, people are using social media as a way to spread and to get information across wider networks. Many social networking sites can also be a place to share information and can become a means of getting a lot of friends and to find a mate. Among social networking that is increasingly popular are Twitter, YouTube, Blogger Facebook and many more. Facebook is one of the social networking websites that is now increasingly popular, and the number of members increase significantly in a short time. This is probably because it can make teenagers more expressive, highlight themselves, although to some extent these students may disturb their study as they may spend a lot of time on it. The concept of the theory used in this research is Communication Model of Stimulus and Response. To measure the stimulus arising from a sale effectively, required knowledge that influences a person to receive, consider the information and make a decision to buy the products. As quantitative research, this research is to measure the force between two variables, namely social media face book as an independent variable and learning motivation of students as the dependent variable. used simple regression, or often called simple regression. From t test results obtained value for the variable t - test Social Media face book 3.800 (greater than ttabel 1.984), and p value of 0.000 < 0,05), the results of this study indicate that social media facebook affect study learning motivation FKIP Universitas Islam Riau.
