Abstract

Introduction: In the tension side on the orthodontic tooth movement, the bone formation process occurs, played by osteoblasts. Bone formation by osteoblasts in vitro can be increased by administering NaF (sodium fluoride). Speed of bone formation is one of the most important steps in orthodontic tooth movement. Objectives: to analize the effect of NaF administration on the expression of osteocalcin and osteonectin in the strain area in the incisors after orthodontic tooth movement. Methods: The 10 Wistar adult male rats were given 10 grams of orthodontic mechanical strength on the incisors so that the incisors moved distally and were given NaF twice a day, compared to 10 mice in the control group with the same treatment without NaF administration. Results: NaF increase osteocalcin expression by 31.1% on day 7 and 44.8% on day 14, whereas in osteonectin the increase is 48.1% on day 7 and 26.2% on day 14. Conclusions: NaF increases the expression of osteonectin and osteocalcin in mice that were given orthodontic mechanical strength. Abstract

The shape and size of dental arch plays an important role in determining the space available for teeth. To avoid crowding the teeth it needs the space provided (available space) is sufficient for the permanent teeth grow. Measurement of available space on the discrepancies in the diagnosis of orthodontic models generally use the analysis Moyers and the analysis Nance. The research was carried out by casting the lower jaw in 30 subjects. The cast is then measured using a brass wire available space on the analysis of Nance and digital calipers on the analysis of Moyers. The data obtained were then conducted a t test with a significance of p <0.05 to determine differences in measurement results available space mandibular dental arch based on the analysis Moyers and the analysis Nance. The test results obtained by using t test p value of 0.563 (p> 0.05). The resulting value shows that the size of the available space in the mandibular dental arch analysis Moyers and analysis Nance showed no significant difference, so that the analysis can be used to measure the available space mandibular dental arch in the permanent dentition.

Abstract

In orthodontic therapy, mechanical force produces remodeling. Because the process of bone resorption on tooth movement is larger than that of bone apposition when a normal force is applied, a balance is required by increasing the number of osteoblasts and lowering the number of osteoclasts. The purpose of this study was to look at the ability of cocoa bean extract to assist balance the apposition and resorption of alveolar bone during orthodontic tooth movement. A total of 36 male Wistar rats were separated into three groups of Group K-(untreated rats), K+ (giving an orthodontic mechanical force), and P (giving an orthodontic mechanical force and a dosage of 250 mg/kg BW cocoa bean extract).  Following euthanasia at 7 and 14 days of therapy and osteoblasts and osteoclasts were counted. The results showed that there was an increase in osteoblasts number and a decrease in osteoclasts number in the treatment group, as indicated by the results of calculating the average number of cells in each group, which were supported by statistical tests using SPSS, which revealed significant differences between groups. In orthodontic tooth movement, cocoa bean extract has the ability to enhance the number of osteoblasts while decreasing the number of osteoclasts. Keywords: osteoblasts; osteoclasts; orthodontic tooth movement; cocoa bean extract

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in more than 30 million deaths in 2020. Pregnant women are a vulnerable group. They tend to be at risk of contracting and experiencing complications that can affect pregnancy and fetal development. This research aims to analyze behavioral factors that influence compliance with the COVID-19 protocol for pregnant women using the health belief model approach in the working area of the Pagelaran Health Center. This research is a cross-sectional study of pregnant women in the Pagelaran health center. The sampling technique used in this study was random sampling and found 107 respondents. The analysis technique used in this study is multiple logistic regression. The research results show a significant influence between perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and perceived self-efficacy with compliance. But there is no influence between cues to action on compliance. Variables included in the modeling and proven to influence pregnant women’s adherence to the COVID-19 protocol include perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and perceived self-efficacy, with perceived severity being the most dominant variable. So it is hoped that policy maker will consider more of perceived severity, benefits, barriers, and self-efficacy.

Abstract

The release of ions is the initial stage of the corrosion process in an orthodontic wire. Continuous release of ions can reduce the effectiveness and performance of the orthodontic wire. Continuous release of ions in CuNiTi orthodontic wire can change the properties of the wire and trigger hypersensitivity reactions, also in stainless steel orthodontic wire which experiences continuous release of ions can reduce its stiffness. The tannin in avocado seeds is useful as a corrosion inhibitor it can inhibit the release of ions because they are able to bind with metal ions and form a passive layer also able to bind with Fe ions in stainless steel orthodontic wires to form a passive surface layer which is able to inhibit the release of ions when the corrosion process occurs. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of avocado seed extract as a corrosion inhibitor on the release of metal ions from CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires. Rectangular CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires measuring 0.017 x 0.025 inches were taken in 3 groups (1 control group soaked in artificial saliva and 2 treatment groups soaked in avocado seed extract). The samples were soaked in avocado seed extract with a concentration of 1.5 g/L and 2 g/L for 7 days. To see the release of ions, an X-Ray Fluorescence test is carried out. In CuNiTi orthodontic wire from the one way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the control group and all treatment groups on Cu, Ni and Ti ions. The Post Hoc LSD test showed that there were significant differences between the control group, treatment group 1 and treatment group 2 in Cu, Ni and Ti ions with a p value. In stainless steel orthodontic wire, the one way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the control group and all treatment groups in Fe and Ni ions but not significant in Cr ions in the ion release test with a p value <0.05. The Post Hoc LSD test showed that there were significant differences between the control group, treatment group 1 and treatment group 2 in Fe and Ni ions with a p value <0.05. Providing avocado seed extract with tannin content at concentrations of 1.5 g/L and 2 g/L can inhibit the rate of ion release in CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires due to the corrosion process.
