Abstract

The primary purpose of this study was to determine students' learning strategies in reading comprehension. This research was conducted at the eleventh grade of IPS of SMA Tri Tunggal Pulau Burung. This type of research is descriptive and uses total sampling techniques in determining research samples. This study's population was 53 students, and researchers took 30 students from them to be sampled in this study. Data collecting techniques use questionnaires from the questionnaire to find out the strategy in reading it. Then, this research shows that the value of students strategies in reading is mean values with result of cognitive strategies 37.93 % at Low category, metacognitive strategies 33.5 % at Low category, socio-affective strategies 33.2 % at Low category. From this study, it can be concluded that the students learning strategies in reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of IPS of Tri Tunggal Pulau Burung are in a low category. Findings showed that the students use cognitive strategies in reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of IPS of SMA Tri Tunggal Pulau burung.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the students' writing difficulties of Analytical Exposition text at XI grade of MA Miftahul Huda Sungai Luar and the most dominant the students' writing difficulties Analytical Exposition text at XI grade of MA Miftahul Huda Sungai Luar. This research was achieved by conducting a descriptive quantitative study. The total population of this research was 51 students. The sample of this research was 51 students of eleventh-grade students of MA Miftahul Huda Sungai Luar. The researcher used total sampling to take the sample. The researcher gave a questionnaire to collect data. The questionnaire consists of 15 statements based on Writing Difficulties indicators. The questionnaire was using the Likert Scale. This questionnaire revealed that students' writing difficulties in analytical exposition text rely on high category, with 77.88%. The most dominant of the students' writing difficulties of Analytical Exposition was difficulty in developing ideas in long sentences. It means that they are difficulties in physiology with the average was 79.14% with high category. Based on the research results, the researcher concluded the Students had high difficulties Writing Analytical Exposition texts. They need to improve themselves to become easy to develop ideas in long sentences. The teacher's role is essential to guide them to be easier to develop ideas in long sentences.

Abstract

An investigation ofcomposition performanceisimportant matter of contention toprobethat one may achievefurthercompelling and authenticending. Paragraph composition performance is one of the concerns.Thetarget of the contemporaryanalysisistoinspectthe extent to which the students’ paragraph composition performance. Therefore, survey study was conceived to achieve the purpose. The third semester students of English Study Program of FKIP – UNISI Tembilahan were determined as the shareholders. They were requiredto composetwo kinds ofparagraph; process paragraph and comparison/contrast paragraph. There are five evaluation criterions; format, punctuation and mechanics, contents, oganization, and sentence structure. Dealing the results ofdata analysis,itdisclosed that theirparagraph composition performance on each compositionelements was diverse. It could be justified from the datawhich sixparticipants (27.3%) worked outin the admirablegrade, nineof them (40.9%) were recognized in competent level, and sevenparticipants (31.8%) could achieve in sufficientcategory. As the final comment, it could be determined that their paragraph compositionperformance was in the sufficient to admirable level. Nevertheless, to gain better endings, more practice isbrought to their mind.

Abstract

The aim purpose of this research was to determine how the contribution of students’ motivation toward learner autonomy for non-English major students of the Islamic University of Indragiri. It was correlational research. Population and Sample in this research were 34 students, which were selected by total sampling technique. They are second-semester students of Accounting Major of the Islamic University of Indragiri. Data collecting technique used the questionnaire in the two variables. Then the research results show that the value of students motivation is 81.62, which covered the indicators of Anxiety (81.87%), Interest (80.16%), Teacher (82.55%). Those are categorized as a strong/high category. Then the result of learner autonomy 80.18, that included Learner Strategy (79.12%), Meta-Cognitive (81.33%), Learner Attitude (80.16%). Those are also classified as a strong/high category. Moreover, the result of correlation both of variables is robserved 0.838, which is categorized as very high correlation, and r table (1%=0.349 and 5%=0.449). Thus, robserved > rtable. It means that Ho is Rejected and Ha is Accepted. In other words, there is a positive correlation between motivation and learner autonomy for non-English major students. From the analysis of the determination coefficient, it obviously found that motivation contributes positively to learner autonomy as much as 70.22%, and the others percent (29.78%) is determined by other aspects. It implies that the higher the students have motivation in learning English, the better they will have learning autonomy.

Abstract

At the Higher Education level, English as a General Subject acts as recognition for the primary focuses learning experience. Using these language skills and components, learners are not trained sufficiently. It causes many circumstances, such as poor performance, limited vocabulary, keen learning interest, a short amount of practice, and more. The requirement for teaching quality is that they can apply English as a medium of communication. The researchers offer a workable solution by adjusting the Integrated Approach to overcome this issue. Thus, the current research objectives are to determine the students' improvement, instruction process, and the influencing factors on their language abilities and motivational beliefs. It is designed as an Action Research. Accounting Major students, which consist of 37 students, are the participants of this research. Tests, observations, and interviews were included in the data gathering process. Then the findings reveal that 13.5 percent of students earned top grades. 40.5 percent of students got decent grades. However, there are already participants who obtained a sufficient level (32.5 percent) and less (13.5 percent). It finds that the Integrated Approach enables improving their English competence and learning motivation through the process of socializing, evaluating, controlling, assisting, and practicing. Furthermore, their improvement factors cover students' motivation, teaching approach, and lecturers' role. It illustrates progress in the learning process made by them. Eventually, this offers evidence that the Integrated Approach implementation favors optimizing their English ability and learning encouragement.

Abstract

At the tertiary level, English as a General Subject supports the learning process's main course. The observations show they are not yet proficient enough to use it. It causes indisposed motivation, dearth vocabulary, low learning interest, short time allocation, and others. Therefore, the researchers provide a solution by applying the Integrated Approach. The research objectives are to determine whether the Integrated Approach can improve English competency and learning motivation, how the learners’ improvement process, and what factors influence these improvements. It is action research, which was Accounting majoring students as subjects - Islamic University of Indragiri. The data collection process used tests and questionnaires. Furthermore, the results showed an increase in their competence and motivation to learn English before and after the Integrated Approach. The improvement process covers several activities; socializing, analyzing, monitoring, guiding, and practicing. Meanwhile, the development affecting factors are internal and external factors such as learning motivation, teaching methods, and the instructors’ roles. In conclusion, the Integrated Approach application positively contributes to the learners’ learning outcomes and motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' ability to understand the Simple Past Tense. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research was carried out in one cycle in one cycle there were four meetings and in this study included the stages of planning, observation, and reflection. research participants are students of class X MIPA 3 in the academic year 2021/2022. The number of participants is half of the students in the class due to the current condition of the corona virus outbreak so that only 16 students were used as students in this research class, there were 7 boys and 6 girls. In this study, learning is not only explained through the material but students are given several video clips as a treatment which contains simple past tense sentences so that learning is more fun and not boring besides that students can also understand the simple past tense material easily so that students' understanding of the simple past tense is increasing. The results showed that using video clips with English subtitles could improve students' understanding of the simple past tense. This can be proven from the results of the students' average scores. The average score of students before the action was 44 with a sufficient category. Then at the second meeting, 74 in the good category then increased again at the third meeting, namely 87 in the very good category and at the last meeting it decreased slightly, namely 84 but still in the very good range. The students really liked the learning process using video clips. Based on the previous statement, it can be concluded that teaching Simple Past tense using video clips with English subtitles can improve students' understanding of the simple past tense in class X MIPA SMAN 1 Tembilahan.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the teacher's perception of the Via English Course about authentic materials that can be taken from the internet, magazines, and newspapers and so on. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. The population of this study are teachers at the Via English Course for the 2021/2022 academic year. The number of population and samples from this study were 11 people taken using total sampling technique. To find out the teacher's perception of using authentic materials in reading skills. Researchers collected data that is quantitative data. For data analysis, the researcher used observational analysis and a questionnaire to determined the final result of the teacher's perception in using authentic material in reading skills. The results of the test show that the teacher's perception of using authentic material in Via English Course Tembilahan is categorized with an average of 88.9% (Very Good). The researcher concluded that the teacher's perception of using authentic material in the Tembilahan English Course was very good because by using authentic material students were more active and more enthusiastic in reading English.

Abstract

This study analysed teaching writing recount text through clustering technique, writing is the process of using symbols to communicate and recount is speaking or writing about past events. Students need to write their recount as final test at tenth grade in curriculum 2013, Not easy to make a good recount text it has generic structure, characteristic and students need much vocabulary to choose to make their sentences on recount text much better. The fact students has felt harder to make a recount text they may miss some of the events that are supposed to be recounted and gotten stuck in the middle. To solve their problem researcher brings clustering technique to make their recount text easier. The main purpose of this thesis is to find out the effect of using clustering technique towards student ability in writing recount text at tenth grade of MA Darud Da’wah Wal-Irsyad Pulau Kijang. This thesis is categorized as experimental research because it is intended to know the effect of clustering technique towards student ability in writing recount text at tenth grade of MA Darud Da’wah Wal-Irsyad Pulau Kijang, these subject of research were taken 1 class (tenth IPS) it contains 23 students. The research instrument that used in this thesis is the writing recount text test. There are two kinds of tests: pre-test and post-test used to find out whether there is a significant effect for students in that class. After the data had been collected by using test it was found that the pre-test average is 49.89 categorized E and post-test is 74.02 categorized C. the obtained t-observe was 4.19, whereas the t-table 2.074 for 5% and 2.819 for 1%, it means t-observe is higher than t-table (2.074 < 4.19 > 2.819) Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. Since t-observe score was higher than t-table clustering technique is effective as media in students' ability in writing recount text at tenth grade of MA Darud Da’wah Wal-Irsyad Pulau Kijang. Based on the findings, the writer concluded that there is a significant effect of using the clustering technique as one of the media teaching writing recount text at tenth grade of MA Darud Da’wah Wal-Irsyad Pulau Kijang.

Abstract

Learners' writing attitudes have been heavily debated as a research topic. The main objective of this current investigation is to explore the learners' attitudes towards the writing process and functions at the higher education level. It is designed as a quantitative approach, with the design as survey research. Thirty-five learners of the English Study Program of FKIP Universitas Islam Indragiri were chosen as the samples. The researcher utilized a questionnaire designed on a Likert scale in obtaining the data. Then the data was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis, which included individual scores, percentages, mean scores, and attitude level. The findings indicate that the learners' attitudes toward the writing process and functions ranged in the mean score of 3.83, which was categorized as a positive attitude. Therefore, it can be inferred that they have good skills for writing because they have a positive attitude toward writing.
