Abstract

Polyeugenol has been synthesized from eugenol by using nitric acid as a catalyst and sodium chloride medium. Eugenol was obtained from clove oil which was previously redestill. The synthesis was carried but by using nitric acid catalyst on sodium chloride medium and without sodium chloride. The ratio of nitric acid to eugenol as 4 : 1. Polymerization result was analyzed by using infrared spectroscopy. Its rendement and its characteristics were also.The yield with sodium chloride medium was 42,97 %, a reddish black gel with melting point of 114,6-150oC. The yield without sodium chloride medium was 47,77 %, a solid brick red with melting point of 87-89oC. The infrared spectroscopy result showed that on the polymerization with medium was unsuccessful because the still CH=CH2 group absorption at 995.27 cm-1 and C=C at 1635,89 cm-1 were still existed, whereas for the polymerization without medium, both absorptions were absent.

Abstract

Desa Belimbing berada di wilayah Kecamatan Pupuan, dengan jarak sekitar 80 km dari kota Denpasar.Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk melakukan pembinaan UKS bagi anak-anak SDN 1 dan SDN 4 di DesaBelimbing. Metode pendekatan dengan ceramah, diskusi, simulasi dan praktek. Materi pembinaan meliputipengenalan mengenai perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat, makanan sehat dan makanan yang berpotensiberbahaya, pentingnya mengukur tinggi dan berat tubuh serta imunisasi secara teratur, obat-obat P3K danmemberikan pertolongan pertama pada kecelakaan serta pengenalan manfaat tanaman obat. Evaluasi programini dilakukan melalui pre test dan post test. Siswa yang dipilih sebagai Dokter Kecil adalah perwakilan darisiswa kelas 3, 4 dan 5, baik dari SDN 1 Belimbing dan SDN 4 Belimbing yang berjumlah 24 siswa yangterdiri dari 42% siswa laki-laki dan 58% siswa perempuan, dengan umur 9-12 tahun. Sebagian besarpekerjaan ayah dan ibu siswa tersebut adalah petani dengan pendidikan SMP. Hasil pengukuran indeks massatubuh, yang dihitung dengan membagi berat terhadap tinggi, menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswaDokter kecil termasuk dalam kategori Kurus, dengan indeks massa tubuh siswa perempuan lebih besardaripada siswa laki-laki. Setelah pembinaan UKS terdapat peningkatan signifikan pemahaman siswamengenai perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat, makanan sehat, obat-obat P3K serta manfaat tanaman obat.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the chemical compounds contained in ungu leaf ethanol extract that has antioxidant properties. Ungu leaf powder (2000 g) was extracted with 10,000 mL of 96% ethanol yielding 51.77 g thick purple-green viscous extract. The result of phytochemical test on ungu leaf ethanol extract showed that the extract contained flavonoid, saponin, phenolic and steroid, with the highest content being steroid. The separation of the ethanol extract was carried out by column chromatography using silica gel as a stationary phase and a mixture of n-hexane: dichloromethane: ethyl acetate (2: 1: 1) as the mobile phase, yielding 10 fraction groups. Fraction F1 is relatively pure, then identified with UV-Vis, IR, and GCMS spectrophotometers. The results of identification with UV-Vis, IR, and GC-MS spectrophotometers showed that ungu leaf ethanol extract containing antioxidant activity contained stigmasterol compounds, namely: stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-ol and stigmast acid-5-en-3-ol.

Abstract

Cempaka kuning (Michelia champaca) which is belongs to Magnoliaceae family, has been traditionally used for treatment fever. This research was conducted to evaluate antimalarial activity of Cempaka kuning stembark extract against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 in vitro. Cempaka kuning stembark was extracted with n-hexane, chloroform and methanol yielded n-hexane extract, chloroform extract and methanol extract, followed by antimalarial activity assay of these extracts. Phytochemical screening showed that n-hexane extract contain volatile oil and terpenoids, chloroform extract contain Volatile oil, terpenoids and fiavonoids, then methanol extract contain volatile oil, terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins and glycosides. Result of this study also showed that n-hexane extract, chloroform extract and methanol extract were active against P. alciparum 3D7 in vitro, with an IC50 value of 0.36, 0.24 and 1.00 µg/mL. The findings indicate that Cempaka kuning stembark extracts possess strong antimalarial activity and are prospective to be developed as antimalarial.

Abstract

Pendidikan mempunyai fungsi mengembangkan kemampuan dan membentuk moral watak, moral, perilaku, susila serta peradaban bangsa yang bermartabat dalam rangka mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa, atau dengan kata lain pendidikan dikatakan mempunyai fungsi sosial dan fungsi relegius. Cita-cita pembentukan karakter anak didik bisa dicapai melalui implementasi nilai tata susila yang terdapat dalam ajaran agama Hindu seperti halnya Tri Kaya Parisudha dan Catur Paramita. Di sini peran guru agama Hindu sangatlah penting dalam upaya internalisasi nilai susila kepada siswa.

Abstract

Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior Jack) is a plant that has potential for hypolipidemia. Kecombrang has secondary metabolites consisting of tannins, saponins, alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, phenolics, and flavonoids. The purpose of this study was to determine the hypolipidemic activity of kecombrang flower methanol extract in obesed Wistar rats fed a high-fat diet. The test animals used in this study were 18 female white rats aged two months, weight of ± 150 grams. The test animals were divided into three groups, namely normal control (only given standard feed), high-fat control (obesed rats with high-fat diet), and flower treatment group (obesed rats with a high-fat diet + flower methanol extract 100 mg/kgBW) orally for 30 days. The results showed that kecombrang flowers reduced total cholesterol levels by 55.5%, triglycerides (TG) by 57.4%, LDL by 76.73%, and increased HDL by 42.96%. The kecombrang flower has the potential for hypolipidemia which is characterized by a decrease in total cholesterol, TG, LDL, and can increase HDL levels in obese rats significantly (p<0.05).

Abstract

Benalu jeruk, Scurrula ferrugenia (Jack) Danser, dapat dimanfaatkan untuk pengobatan kanker atau sitotoksik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui toksisitas ekstrak etanol daun benalu jeruk (Scurrula ferruginea (Jack) Danser) terhadap larva udang Artemia salina serta kandungan golongan senyawa metabolit sekunder dengan metode skrining fitokimia. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan metode maserasi dan partisi, Uji toksisitas dilakukan dengan metode Brine Shirmp Lethality Test (BSLT), dan skrining fitokimia dilakukan dengan menggunakan beberapa pereaksi pendekteksi golongan senyawa. Maserasi 1 kg serbuk daun benalu jeruk menghasilkan ekstrak pekat etanol sebesar 49,74 gram. Proses partisi 10 gram ekstrak pekat etanol menghasilkan 5,3838 gram ekstrak pekat n-heksana, 2,2239 gram ekstrak pekat etil asetat, 1,3012 gram ekstrak pekat n-butanol dan 1,0911 gram ekstrak air. Hasil uji toksisitas ekstrak etanol, n-heksana, etil asetat, n-butanol dan air secara berturut-turut dengan nilai LC50 162,7565; 83,3017; 147,0026; 660,2279; dan 921, 6679 ppm. Skrining fitokimia menunjukkan hasil positif terhadap metabolit sekunder alkaloid, saponin, steroid, flavonoid, dan tanin. Kata kunci: benalu jeruk (Scurrula ferrugenia (Jack) Danser, toksisitas, uji fitokimia ABSTRACT The citrus parasite, Scurrula ferrugenia (Jack) Danser, can be used for the treatment of cancer or cytotoxic. This study aimed to determine the toxicity of the ethanol extract of citrus parasite leaves (Scurrula ferruginea (Jack) Danser) against shrimp larvae of Artemia salina and the content of secondary metabolite compounds using phytochemical screening methods. The extraction was carried out by the maceration and partitioning methods, the toxicity test by the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) and phytochemical screening by using several detection reagents. Maceration of 1 kg of citrus parasite leaves yielded a concentrated ethanol extract of 49.74 grams. The partition process of 10 grams of concentrated ethanol extract produced 5.3838 grams of concentrated n-hexane extract, 2.2239 grams of concentrated ethyl acetate extract, 1.3012 grams of concentrated n-butanol extract and 1.0911 grams of water extract. The toxicity test for ethanol, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and water extracts resulted in LC50 values ??of 162.7565; 83.3017; 147.0026; 660.2279; and 921.6679 ppm, respectively. Phytochemical screening showed positive results for secondary metabolites of alkaloids, saponins, steroids, flavonoids, and tannins. Abstract

Asap rokok merupakan salah satu penyedia radikal bebas eksogen yang dapat menimbulkan stres oksidatif dan berpotensi menyebabkan penyakit degenerative. Tenggulun (Protium javanicum Burm. f.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang berpotensi sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak metanol daun tenggulun terhadap kadar malondialdehid (MDA) dan aktivitas superoksida dismutase (SOD) pada darah tikus Wistar yang dipapar asap rokok. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental dengan rancangan acak kelompok dengan posttest-only control group design. 24 ekor tikus putih jantan galur Wistar dibagi dalam 4 kelompok yaitu kelompok kontrol P0 (hanya diberi paparan asap rokok); kelompok perlakuan P1, P2, dan P3 (diberi ekstrak metanol daun tenggulun dengan dosis berturut-turut 50, 100, dan 200 mg/kgBB dan paparan asap rokok). Semua kelompok dipapar asap rokok dengan dosis 3 batang per hari selama 15 menit selama 14 hari. Pada hari ke-15, darah masing-masing tikus diambil untuk dianalisis kadar MDA dan aktivitas SOD. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok kontrol P0 memiliki kadar MDA tertinggi yaitu 6,73 ± 0,47 µM dan aktivitas SOD terendah yaitu 1,01 ± 0,12 ng/mL dibandingkan dengan kelompok perlakuan P1, P2, dan P3. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa paparan asap rokok menyebabkan stress oksidatif. Pemberian ekstrak dengan dosis 50, 100, dan 200 mg/Kg BB secara signifikan (p<0,05) menurunkan kadar MDA dan meningkatkan aktivitas SOD jika dibandingkan dengan kontrol. Semakin tinggi dosis ekstrak yang diberikan, maka kadar MDA cenderung semakin menurun dan aktivitas SOD meningkat. Pemberian ekstrak metanol daun tenggulun dengan dosis 200mg/Kg BB (P3) memberikan hasil terbaik dengan kadar MDA terendah yaitu sebesar 2,91 ± 0,22 µM dan aktivitas SOD tertinggi sebesar 2,73 ± 0,23 ng/mL pada tikus Wistar yang terpapar asap rokok. Pada penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak metanol daun tenggulun secara signifikan mampu menurunkan kadar MDA dan meningkatkan aktivitas SOD pada tikus yang terpapar asap rokok. ABSTRACT Cigarette smoke is a source of free radicals that trigger oxidative stress which can cause inflammation and lung damage. Tenggulun (Protium javanicum Burm. f.) is a plant that is known to have potential as an antioxidant. This study aims to determine the effect of giving tenggulun leaf methanol extract on malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the blood of Wistar rats exposed to cigarette smoke. This research is a randomized posttest-only control group design using 24 male white Wistar rats which were divided into 4 groups namely the control group (P0), only given exposure to cigarette smoke; the treatment group (P1; P2, and P3) were exposed to cigarette smoke and given 50, 100, and 200 mg/Kg BW of methanol extract of tenggulun leaves respectively. All groups were exposed to cigarette smoke at a dose of 3 cigarettes per day for 15 minutes for 14 days. On the 15th day, the blood of each rat was taken to analyze its MDA level and SOD activity. The results showed that the control group (P0) had the highest MDA level of 6.73 ± 0.47 µM and the lowest SOD activity of 1.01 ± 0.12 ng/mL compared to the treatment groups P1, P2, and P3. Administration of the extract at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/Kg BW significantly (p<0.05) reduced MDA levels and boosted SOD activity when compared to control. The higher the extract dose given, the levels of MDA reduced and SOD activity tends to increase. In this study, the administration of methanol leaves extract of tenggulun with a dose of 200mg/Kg BW (P3) on Wistar rats exposed to cigarette smoke gave the best results with MDA level of 2.91 ± 0.22 µM and SOD activity of 2.73 ± 0.23 ng/mL. The study concluded that the methanol extract of tenggulun leaves significantly reduced MDA levels and boosted SOD activity in rats exposed to cigarette smoke. Abstract

BACKGROUNDMalaria remains one of the major causes of death worldwide. Holothuria scabra has a high nutritional content and many biological effects. The development of alternative anti-malarial drugs is necessary, considering that resistance to the newest anti-malarial drugs has been reported. This research study aimed to determine the anti-malarial effects of Holothuria scabra in mice infected with Plasmodium berghei. METHODSThis was a post-test only control group study conducted on 24 Balb/c mice. Peter’s four-day suppressive test was employed to ascertain the claimed anti-plasmodial effect of the simplicia. Following inoculation with P. berghei, all 24 mice were infected and randomized into 4 groups, namely 3 treatment groups and 1 control group. The control group was given carboxymethyl cellulose, two of the treatment groups were given doses of 10 and 100 mg/kg BW Holothuria scabra, respectively, using Peter’s four-day suppressive test, while the remaining treatment group received a dose of 100 mg/kgBW using the prophylactic method. Data were analyzed using One way ANOVA. RESULTSThe results showed by using both the four-day suppressive test and the prophylactic method, that Holothuria scabra has antimalarial activity. Holothuria scabra at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW was significantly effective in decreasing the percentage of parasitemia (p=0.000) and tended to inhibit the growth of Plasmodium berghei in mice (p=0.054). CONCLUSIONThis study demonstrated that Holothuria scabra possesses anti-plasmodial activity in mice. Hence, the sea cucumber could serve as a potential source of a newer antimalarial agent.
