Abstract

This research aims to analyze the types of social deixis used in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie script, and to describe the referential meaning of each type of social deixis used in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie script using descriptive analysis method. The result shows that there are 6 types of social deixis used in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie script, they are person marking, speech levels, formal distinctions, different in names, titles, and kinship designation, linguistic performance that is count as social act and linguistic performance that can accompany the social act. The writer found 982 expressions of social deixis where the most frequently used category is the person marking. Other types that are also found The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie script are speech level formal distinction of utterance different ways which names, titles and kinship relationships designated, social acts and expressions that complete social acts. The referential meaning in this research, were took one examples of each type data of social deixis that has been found in the movie script

Abstract

This study aims to find out the language features and their meaning of Maya Angelou’s selected poems. The study used qualitative descriptive approach by applying the theory of Geoffrey Leech’s in analyzing the level of language. The results show that there were four language levels found in Maya Angelou’s selected poems. The first was phonological level, which divided into alliteration, assonance, consonance, and rhyme scheme. The second was grammatical level which are simple present tense, simple present perfect tense and simple past tense to see the relation between tenses and the meaning of the poem. The third was Lexical level such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and pronouns. The semantically level consisted of figurative language were simile, hyperbole, metaphor, and imagery. For the Phenomenal Woman poem had a message for all women to convey that radiate your own beauty, without see the other woman beauty but self-confident. Our Grandmothers poem reveal that the woman avoided slaved and tell her children the worst that could happen, it was feeling injustice. Mother, a Cradle to Hold Me poem conveyed the mother love and speaker love to his mother and his afraid to lose his mother

Abstract

This study aimed to discover and explain the factors that influence the formation of identity search journey of the main character and types of psychology development and formation of identity in the novel My Sweet Audrina novel by V.C Andrews. The data sources used in this study is novel My Sweet Audrina novel by V.C Andrews. In analyzing the data, the writer used descriptive qualitative research method through psychological approach. Data were obtained by using the techniques of reading, noting, and analyzing. While in classifying the data, the writer used interpersonal theory by Sullivan. In this study, the writer analyzed the novel My Sweet Audrina novel by V.C Andrews in order to find the identity search by the main character. The results of this study indicate that there were 20 data that portrayed identity search that become the factors that influence the formation in the novel. There were 3 types of self formation from psychological development found from the data they were 5 Bad me, 3 Good me and 12 Not me. All of the three aspects above signficantly influenced the psychological of the main character and turned her into a strong character menatally and psychally

Abstract

This objective of the research were to find out the types of slang word that used on tiktok platform and to find out the positive impacts and negative impacts of the used of slang word on tiktok platform. The writer used qualitative descriptive method and used Allan and Burridge’s theory to find out the types of slang word that use on tiktok platform. The positive and negative impacts of  the used of slang words on the tiktok platform analyzed by the comment section of the videos. There are 5 types of the slang word used by content creator on tiktok platform, they are fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, and clipping. The result of this research shows fresh and creative is the most frequently used for english slang word. There are comments of tiktok users shows positive words and negative words. The result of data collected shows that tiktok users provide more positive impacts from comments than negative impacts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify and interpret the relationship between signifier and signified in verbal and visual aspects on posters, trailers, and scenes of the Netflix series XO, Kitty. The research method used by the researcher was descriptive qualitative analysis with a semiotic approach. The data were collected by watching the Netflix series, capturing the screen and taking notes, collecting verbal and visual aspects, and analysed based on the signifiers and signs by applying Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory. The results show that in posters and visual elements such as backgrounds, character poses, and graphic elements functioned as markers that formed certain meanings regarding the theme and atmosphere of the series. In the trailers, the use of dialogue and visual montage identified the signifiers in which introduced the main characters and the conflicts that they faced. Analysis of scenes in the first episode revealed how verbal (dialogue) and visual (cinematography, setting) elements worked together to build narrative and characterization

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the types of symbol, and the function of the symbol of the Tua Reta Lo’u dance at Kajowair Village, Sikka District. The method used in this study was a qualitative descriptive by applying the Charles Peirce semiotic theory the Types of Signs: Icon, Index, and Symbol. The types of symbol and the function of the symbol were analysed. Data were collected through observation, interview, video recording, and supporting documents. The results reveal that there were 10 parts of clothes both male and female in the Tua Reta Lo’u dance, 3 parts of traditional music, and 3 parts of movements in the Tua Reta Lo’u dance, had 3 types of signs including: Icon, Index, and Symbol. The clothes symbolized as beauty, protection, courage, mind control, and emotions. The traditional music symbolized of spirit and harmony. Whereas the movements symbolized of the courage, agility, and body balance. The function of the symbol of the clothes to show the strength, courage, and protection to the enemies. The traditional music had the function of the symbol to inspire the dancers and convey the message of the dance. Meanwhile, the had a function of the symbol as an expression of courage, agility, body balance, and showing off guts to the opponents.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the characteristics of antisocial personality disorder experienced by the main character Adrian Griffin in the movie script The Invisible Man and also to determine the impact that Adrian's personality has on other characters. This type of research used a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique is carried out by reading, identifying and classifying words included in the film script. Based on the results and discussion, five characters were found in the Invisible Man film script based on Theodore Millons' theory: antisocial, passive aggressive. Sadistic, psychopath, histrionic and narcissistic. Of the five personalities found, Adrian's character dominates in antisocial behavior where he often ignores social norms, violates other people's rights and commits criminal acts without any sympathy at all for other people.

Abstract

The study aimed to describe the types of errors in the subject matter as well as describe advertisements that contain elements of greenwashing and hopes to provide a basis for further research in this area. Qualitative descriptive research methods were used to analyze data through psychological approach, including reading, note- taking and analysis techniques. Data collection techniques were carried out using triangulation. The data were analyzed in qualitative descriptive in which the research results emphasized meaning rather than generalization. The object of research in this study was advertising that contains elements of greenwashing of fast fashion brands. The data were analyzed by using semiotic approach. The research results show that the fast fashion brand H&M is involved in greenwashing practices that violate international legal principles such as the precautionary principle and the precautionary principle. It can be seen from excessive claims, hidden information, and the creation of an exaggerated brand image. Their website is not completely accurate, as some fabrics cannot be recycled. The solution used, a mixture of cotton and polyester that makes up 90% of clothing, is difficult to recycle because the fibers are so dense. This program produces chemical waste that needs to be treated.

Abstract

The research aimed at finding out the types of criminals and to describe the cause of the main character become a criminal in the movie script of My Friend Dahmer by Marc Meyers. The data were analysed through Sutherland’s theory in which the data presented in the qualitative descriptive method. The results reveal that there were four types of criminal using in the script such as white-collar crime, violent crime, property crime, and consensual crime or victimless crime. Each criminology has a different meaning from each category in each forensic linguistics. The four criminal types that the cause of the main character to become a criminal person.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of directive speech acts by Isabel Conklin in Jenny Han's novel, "The Summer I Turned Pretty." Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research focused on identifying and analyzing the types of directive speech acts present in the text. A total of 5 types of directive speech acts were found, categorized into: commanding, requesting, forbidding, inviting, and suggesting. The objectives of the study include understanding how these speech acts reflect Isabel's character and influence her relationships. The results indicated that each type of directive speech act played a crucial role in shaping Isabel's interactions, with commanding speech acts reflecting her need for control, while requesting and inviting speech acts foster cooperation and inclusivity. The study concluded that Isabel's use of directive speech acts significantly contributed to her character development and the dynamics of her relationships throughout the novel.
