Abstract

Background: Waanders’s hard-lipped barbs or scientifically known as Osteochilus waandersii belong to the family Cyprinidae with the potamodromous category. This fish can be found in the Tambatan river. It has the potential for commercial consumption or ornamental fish. Methods: This study was conducted in the Tambatan river from November to January 2021. The determination of three research stations was carried out using a purposive sampling method. Sampling was undertaken using cast nets. Furthermore, data analyzed were growth patterns, condition factors, and gonad maturity levels. Results: The growth patterns of male (1.944) and female (2.379) Osteochilus waandersii were in a negative allometric category. Besides, The Fulton's condition factor for male fish ranged from 0.42 - 3.43 with an average of 1.05, while that for female fish ranged from 0.59 - 3.67 with an average of 1.47. The result of the observation on the gonad maturity level for male and female O. waandersii in the Tambatan river indicated that they were dominated by fish with gonad maturity stage I (immature). Conclusions: Waanders’s hard-lipped barbs O. waandersii found were in the stage towards the mature level.

Abstract

Background: The potential fish resources of snakeskin gourami (Trichopodus pectoralis) in the flooded swamp waters of Bilah river, Labuhanbatu Regency, are pretty high. Thus, this is one of the essential resources and has economic value. This study aimed to inform the bioecological aspects of snakeskin gourami fish (T. pectoralis). Methods: The determination of 3 sampling points was done using the purposive random sampling method. The sampling of T. pectoralis was carried out using the trap. The data analysis presented information on the abundance of Gonad Maturity Level, growth pattern, the Fulton (K) factor condition, and the Pearson correlation among environment parameters to the T. pectoralis population, which was presented quantitatively. Results: The results showed the length-weight relationship of T. pectoralis in the allometric category. The average relative weight (Wr) for male T. pectoralis was 100.46 ± 8.37, and for females was 99.83 ± 2.30. The mean value of the Fulton’s (K) factor condition in male T. pectoralis (8.94 ± 0.54) and female T. pectoralis (9.27 ± 0.67). Conclusions: T. pectoralis showed an allometric category and domination of the first gonadal maturity level. It describes that the female is abundant in optimum condition and ensures for future generations, and Pearson’s correlation result informs that increasing the value of environmental parameters will affect the optimization of T. pectoralis life.

Abstract

Background: Mantis shrimp is one of the favorite shrimp caught by fishermen around the estuary waters of Berombang River, Labuhanbatu Regency. This study aimed to determine the condition factors and growth patterns of mantis shrimp population. Method: Three station points were determined using a purposive random sampling method. The sampling of Harpiosquilla raphidea was carried out using trawl nets. The data analysis provided information on growth patterns and condition factors. Result: The results showed that the growth patterns of male H. raphidea belonged to the positive b> 3 allometric category, where weight growth was faster than carapace growth. Moreover, the growth patterns of female H. raphidea belonged to the negative b<3 allometric category, where the carapace growth was faster than body weight growth. The value of Fulton (K) condition factors for male H. raphidea ranged from 3.54 to 13.18, and for females, it ranged from 15.28 to 22.09. The value of correlation analysis of Physic-chemical parameters, water temperature (0.935) and DO (0.832) showed the high category correlation test results. Conclusion: This result showed that from November 2021 to January 2022, the condition of H. raphidea population around the estuary waters of Berombang River was known and predicted to be in the adult stage
