Abstract

Phytoplankton is the most important organism for aquatic ecosystem life that make up organic substances from inorganic substances in the process of photosynthesis and the largest oxygen producer for the life of living creatures. Research on the diversity of phytoplankton in river blades has never been done . The purpose of this study is to determine the biodiversity of phytoplankton in Bilah river and analyze the relationship of physical-chemical factors of the water to the diversity of phytoplankton. The study was conducted from April to June 2019. This research is an exploratory descriptive study with the selection of sampling locations using purposive sampling method. Analysis of data includes density of phytoplankton, measurement of physical-chemical factor of aquatic biology and the Correlation analysis between phytoplankton and value of physical-chemical factor. The results showed Nostoc sp.were the highest density of phytoplankton found on the first (1st) station, while the lowest abundance value is found on stations 2nd and 3rd were found genus Rhizosolenia sp. and Euglena sp. The Highest Shanon-Wiener index (H’) value on the first (1st) station (2.26) dan the lowest value on stasiun 3rd (1.24). The summary from this research were DO, temperature, and light intensity as physical factor of water had the highest correlation againts of biodiversity of phytoplanton.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the Gonad Maturity Level (TKG), Gonad Maturity Index (IKG), first gonad maturity size (L50), egg weight (fecundity) in Portunus pelagicus in Sei Barombang waters, Labuhanbatu Regency. The sampling point for Portunus pelagicus sampling was carried out in Sei Barombang waters. The research method used purposive random sampling to determine three sampling stations in the research area. Portunus pelagicus samples were taken using traps and trawl nets. The results of the study of Portunus pelagicus males and females were more dominant in TKG I. The IKG values for male Portunus pelagicus ranged from 8.85 - 15.59 and females ranged from 5.15 - 13.69. The male Portunus pelagicus crab experienced the first maturity of gonads measuring around 87.20 mmCW and females around 103.55 mmCW. Egg weight or fecundity in Portunus pelagicus in Sei Barombang waters, Labuhanbatu Regency ranged from 317.280 ± 1.897558 eggs.

Abstract

As basic information on identification process, the morphometric and meristic of mantis shrimp study can be used to initiate of mantis shrimp resource from Indonesia especially from North Sumatera. Mantis shrimp (Harpiosquilla raphidea) have big chance as one of the potential crustacean species as the source nutrition of future but not used optimally. This research was used the quantitative method were determining the sampling point through the purposive random sampling method. This study was conducted from November 2021 to January 2022 in around of Sei Berombang coastal water. The H. raphidea samples was carried out at 3 observation sites using trawl nets. The morphometric result showed that H. raphidea body length size was found range from 8.45 to 30.32 cm. In the meristic analysis of mantis shrimp, there were 5-6 telson spines, 7-8 spines for dactylus, and 15-17 for propodus. These results were described that the body length size of mantis shrimp dominated by small size class. and with this part has confirmed that the mantis found in Berombang estuary waters is H. raphidea.

Abstract

Giant freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rossenbergii) were still been the favorite prawn catch of local fishermen in the Labuhanbatu district. This raises concerns for the survival of these animals. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study to obtain bioecological information on this giant freshwater, giant prawns in the Bilah river especially inform about condition the abundance based on gonad maturity levels, and the growth patterns of Giant freshwater prawns (M. rossenbergii). This study was conducted at 3 stations around the Bilah river. These stations were determined using a purposive sampling method. Furthermore, sampling was carried out using fishing nets. After that, the caught fish were analyzed to find out the Fulton’s condition factor, the abundance of prawns based on gonad maturity levels, and the growth patterns. The results of growth patterns analysis which calculate from the relationship of carapace length and body weight of M. rossenbergii caught were showed negative allometric category (b value 1.88 to 2.577). Meanwhile, the abundance of giant freshwater prawns based on gonad maturity levels for males and females were dominated by immature prawns (ranging from 46.15 to 54.65%).

Abstract

Background: The potential fish resources of snakeskin gourami (Trichopodus pectoralis) in the flooded swamp waters of Bilah river, Labuhanbatu Regency, are pretty high. Thus, this is one of the essential resources and has economic value. This study aimed to inform the bioecological aspects of snakeskin gourami fish (T. pectoralis). Methods: The determination of 3 sampling points was done using the purposive random sampling method. The sampling of T. pectoralis was carried out using the trap. The data analysis presented information on the abundance of Gonad Maturity Level, growth pattern, the Fulton (K) factor condition, and the Pearson correlation among environment parameters to the T. pectoralis population, which was presented quantitatively. Results: The results showed the length-weight relationship of T. pectoralis in the allometric category. The average relative weight (Wr) for male T. pectoralis was 100.46 ± 8.37, and for females was 99.83 ± 2.30. The mean value of the Fulton’s (K) factor condition in male T. pectoralis (8.94 ± 0.54) and female T. pectoralis (9.27 ± 0.67). Conclusions: T. pectoralis showed an allometric category and domination of the first gonadal maturity level. It describes that the female is abundant in optimum condition and ensures for future generations, and Pearson’s correlation result informs that increasing the value of environmental parameters will affect the optimization of T. pectoralis life.

Abstract

The Blue swimming crab Portunus pelagicus which comes from subphylum Crustacea, specifically the Portunidae family, is one of the potential crabs that have high economic value in Labuhanbatu regency. This study aimed to reveal information on condition factors and the population growth pattern of P. pelagicus in the ecosystem of the Berombang river estuary. This study was conducted from November 2021 to January 2022, using the purposive random sample method in determining the sampling points. In collecting the samples of P. pelagicus, the researchers used fish traps called bubu with fresh fish as bait. Results showed that the growth pattern of P. pelagicus was negatively allometric, in which values ​​for males and females were 1.1552 and 2.2727, respectively. Furthermore, the results of the correlation analysis between the physical-chemical of waters to abundance of P. pelagicus indicated that positive correlation for water temperature (0.835), dissolved oxygen (DO) (0.778), and salinity (0.726) had an effect on the presence of P. pelagicus.

Abstract

Background: Mantis shrimp is one of the favorite shrimp caught by fishermen around the estuary waters of Berombang River, Labuhanbatu Regency. This study aimed to determine the condition factors and growth patterns of mantis shrimp population. Method: Three station points were determined using a purposive random sampling method. The sampling of Harpiosquilla raphidea was carried out using trawl nets. The data analysis provided information on growth patterns and condition factors. Result: The results showed that the growth patterns of male H. raphidea belonged to the positive b> 3 allometric category, where weight growth was faster than carapace growth. Moreover, the growth patterns of female H. raphidea belonged to the negative b<3 allometric category, where the carapace growth was faster than body weight growth. The value of Fulton (K) condition factors for male H. raphidea ranged from 3.54 to 13.18, and for females, it ranged from 15.28 to 22.09. The value of correlation analysis of Physic-chemical parameters, water temperature (0.935) and DO (0.832) showed the high category correlation test results. Conclusion: This result showed that from November 2021 to January 2022, the condition of H. raphidea population around the estuary waters of Berombang River was known and predicted to be in the adult stage

Abstract

This study aims to inform about the gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, the first body size of maturity (L50), and the fecundity of Harpiosquilla raphidea in Labuhanbatu regency waters, North Sumatera. The study was conducted for three months from December 2021 to February 2022 with samplings were conducted twice a month. The purposive random sampling method used to determine of three stations of this research. Samples of H. raphidea were caught with shrimp trawl nets.  The results describe that population of mantis shrimp H. raphidea in Labuhanbatu regency were dominate in first gonad maturity stage. The Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) value of male H. raphidea mantis ranged from 6.00 – 11.87 and the female ranged from 5.12 – 12.75. The first maturity size of male were 19.88 cmBL and female H. raphidea were 18.75 cmBL. The fecundity of this mantis shrimp H. raphidea  in station research ranged from 130,088 to 970,658.

Abstract

Anthropogenic activities that tend to be exploitative in the mangrove ecosystem of Belawan are thought to have an impact on the biota associated with the ecosystem. One of the impacts is thought to be implied by mantis shrimp Cloridopsis scorpio (Latreile, 1828). The reproductive biology of the shrimp is the main object that needs to be studied in relation to the impacts. This study aims to determine the distribution of gonad maturity stage, gonad somatic index, and the length of the first mature of C. scorpio in the Mangrove Ecosystem of Belawan, North Sumatera. The research was conducted on March to May 2019 with a biweekly sampling period. The purposive random sampling was applied to choose three sampling stations in the research location. Mantis shrimp samples were caught using shrimp trawl. The result showed that the gonad maturity stage of males and females were dominated by Stage I. The gonad somatic index (GSI) range of males were 7.00-10.93 and female were 7.40-11.15. The GSI value of C. scorpio is closely related to its gonad maturity development. The length of the first mature (L50) of males were 205.50±10.65 mmBL and females were 186.0±10.48 mmBL.Keywords: Cloridopsis scorpio, Gonad maturity stage, Gonad somatic indeks, Length of the first mature ABSTRAKAktivitas antropogenik yang cenderung eksploitatif di kawasan ekosistem mangrove Belawan diduga telah berdampak terhadap biota-biota yang berasosiasi dengan ekosistem tersebut. Salah satu dampaknya dialami oleh udang mantis Cloridopsis scorpio (Latreile, 1828). Aspek reproduksi C. scorpio menjadi salah satu objek yang perlu dikaji berkaitan dengan dampak tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis sebaran tingkat kematangan gonad (TKG), indeks kematangan gonad (IKG), dan ukuran pertama kali matang gonad (L50) dari C. scorpio di ekosistem mangrove Belawan, Sumatera Utara. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Maret sampai Mei 2019 dengan periode pengambilan sampel dua mingguan. Metode purposive random sampling digunakan untuk menentukan tiga stasiun pengambilan sampel di lokasi penelitian. Sampel C. scorpio ditangkap menggunakan pukat udang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan distribusi TKG C. scorpio jantan dan betina didominasi oleh TKG I. Nilai IKG C. scorpio jantan berkisar antara 7,00-10,93 dan C. scorpio betina berkisar antara 7,40-11,15. Nilai IKG C. scorpio berkaitan dengan tahap perkembangan gonadnya. C. scorpio jantan mengalami pertama kali matang gonad (L50) pada ukuran 205,50±10,65 mmBL dan C. scorpio betina pada ukuran 186,00±10,48 mmBL.Kata kunci: Cloridopsis scorpio, TKG, IKG, Ukuran pertama kali matang gonad

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the morphometric characteristics crab P. pelagicus in the Sei Berombang estuary waters. The purposive sampling method used to determining 3 sampling stations, sampling process was using trawl nets. The results showed that the P. pelagicus population at Station 1 dominated by small carapace, at stations 2 and 3 found the domination of larger size with juvenile and adult phases category. The morphometric characters of carapace width (CW) in blue/flower crabs ranged from 9.50 to 17.40 cm, left posterolateral carapace length (LPCL) ranged from 2.20-6.70 cm, left anterolateral carapace length (LACL) ranged from 1.30-6.50 cm, right anterolateral carapace length (RACL) ranged from 1.20-7.00 cm, frontal right width (FRMW) ranged from 1.50-3.70 cm, carapace length (CH) ranged from 3.70-7.00 cm, internal carapace width (ICW) ranged from 6, 30-14.10 cm, right orbit (eye socket) width (ROW) ranged from 1.06-2.00 cm, left orbit (eye cavity) width (LOW) ranged from 1.12-2.10 cm, carapace width (CW) ranged from 9.50-17.40 cm, left posterolateral carapace length (LPCL) ranged from 2.20-6.70 cm, and left anterolateral carapace length (LACL) ranged from 1.30-6.50 cm. Conclusion, The morphometric characters of male and female P. pelagicus in the Sei Berombang waters were found to vary spatially and temporally.
