Abstract

This study was Classroom Action Research. It was conducted based on an internship of teaching practice in SMA Kristen Kalam Kudus Selatpanjang. It involved 25 students of grade 10 science class. The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of using Tiktok in improving students’ speaking skills. The research was organized step by steps such as planning, implementing, observation and reflection. The research instruments were observation, pre-test, and post-test. First, the students in the class were observed during learning English subjects, and then the pre-test and post-test were implemented to determine the students’ speaking skill improvement. The rubric was designed according to the aspect of speaking skills to assess the students’ skills. The results of the post-test showed that the students’ scores rapidly increased and were better than their pre-test. The average score for the pre-test was 2.51 points. After implementing TikTok in the test, the average score for the post-test was 4.65 points. Therefore, the implementation of TikTok proved it was effective to develop students’ speaking skills. In conclusion, the TikTok application engaged the students to enjoy the learning especially in improving their speaking skills. Students were free to express their ideas and creativity while making the content.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the most troublesome expertise to ace. It likewise happens to most of the students in Harapan Utama senior high school in Batam. They have numerous problems communicating in English since they believe that English is not a daily language in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to find out whether Role-play through the IGTV significantly improves students' ability in speaking skills. This study chose 37 students of grade 10 at Harapan Utama senior high school. This survey research tested the hypotheses that have been set. Therefore, this study used the speaking score (Pre-Test & Post-Test) as the research instrument. From the data conducted by one group pretest and posttest design, the data analysis of t-test shows that the value of Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.00 <0.05. Therefore, there is an average difference between Pre-Test and Post-Test learning outcomes. In addition, based on the Interview, some improvements were achieved in the post-test scores, such as pronunciation, vocabulary, and understanding. Thus, to conclude, using roleplaying through IGTV as a classroom teaching technique can improve students’ speaking skills. Last, this research can be useful and used as an additional guide, particularly in improving the ability of students to speak English.

Abstract

The study was conducted to explore the effect of TikTok in developing the students’ motivation in speaking. The study was conducted through Classroom Action Research. The involved participants were 25 students from the tenth grade of SMA Kristen Kalam Kudus, Selatpanjang. The study used qualitative and quantitative methods in collecting the data. The research procedures were planned in organized procedures as mentioned: planning, implementing, observation and reflection. The research instruments were questionnaire, pre-test, and post-test. The questionnaire was designed into Likert scale format. Then, the pre-test and post-test were implemented in the study. The post-test took two cycles. The research findings identified that the students’ motivation level was at a moderate level 3.84. However, the post-test showed that the students’ scores rapidly increased and were better than their pre-test. Therefore, the implementation of TikTok proved that it was effective to develop students’ motivation in speaking ability. In conclusion, TikTok application engaged the students to enjoy the learning especially in motivating them to speak. Students were free to express their ideas while making the content.

Abstract

English has been taught in face-to-face class. However, since Covid-19 exploded into a global pandemic and Indonesia confirmed the first case on 2 March 2, 2020, the local government implement a policy to dismiss schools for avoiding a wider spread of the virus in schools. Covid-19 shifted the way students learn from the traditional face-to-face class to long-distance classes or what is called online class. Still, the way online class is something very new for both students and teachers. As a result, the objective of this study is to find the students’ perception of e-learning in English Language Education in Universitas Internasional Batam, this study is conducted. The quantitative method was used by conducting a survey toward 79 students in English Language Education Department. The instrument of data collection were close-ended questions and interview. By concerning the advantage, confidence, effectiveness, and efficiency of utilizing e-learning, the result shows that the average score of the categories is 2.915 which is categorized as positive perception of e-learning.

Abstract

Sebagai ketergantungan, bahasa ingin digunakan lagi dan lagi. Lagu-lagu jazz memberikan frase dan kalimat yang berulang dan berirama yang mungkin bersih untuk dihafal. Berbasis total di sini, himne Jazz dapat dipertimbangkan untuk digunakan dalam olahraga untuk meningkatkan akurasi pengucapan siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) menguji apakah pengucapan siswa Jazz Hymn dapat meningkatkan akurasi, dan (2) booming manfaat penerapan pengucapan siswa Jazz Hymn. Kajian ini mulai dilakukan pada mahasiswa semester I D3 Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis, tentunya salah satu perguruan tinggi yang ada di Surakarta. Studi tindakan kelas ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus yang terdiri dari 3 konferensi di setiap siklusnya. Teknik penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah perencanaan, pergerakan, observasi dan foto cermin. penulis memanfaatkan pengumuman, wawancara, angket dan ujian untuk memperoleh fakta. Informasi kuantitatif dianalisis melalui statistik deskriptif, seperti halnya statistik kualitatif dianalisis melalui mode interaktif. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan antara lain: (1) menciptakan lagu jazz dapat meningkatkan pengucapan mahasiswa dari segi tekanan, intonasi dan ucapan terkait dan (2) membuat lagu jazz bermanfaat untuk merangsang keanggunan menjadi lebih aktif. , booming motivasi, dan untuk membantu daya ingat mahasiswa perguruan tinggi. Kata kunci: Nyanyian Jazz, pelafalan, mobil.

Abstract

Sistem pendidikan di Thailand menerapkan ujian nasional yang dikoordinasikan oleh Kantor Ujian Pendidikan Bureu dari Komisi Pendidikan Dasar dengan menggunakan sistem ONET (Ordinary Nastional Education Test). Dari hasil observasi yang telah dilakukan, Nongchok Pittaya Nussorn Mattayom School (Thailand) terpilih menjadi mitra kegiatan penulis dikarenakan persentase hasil Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris di Nongchok Pittaya Nussorn Mattayom School dari tahun 2015 - 2019 kurang memuaskan. Setelah dikonsultasikan dengan pihak sekolah, didapatkan kesimpulan tentang penyebab hasil Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris mereka rendah, yaitu: 1) Motivasi belajar siswa yang kurang: siswa kurang perhatian saat belajar dan mereka menganggap Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa yang terlalu sulit untuk dipelajari; 2) Bahan ajar tidak memadai: materi yang digunakan tidak mencakup semua topik dalam Ujian Nasional; 3) Persiapan siswa untuk menghadapi Ujian Nasional kurang matang. Metode yang digunakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut yaitu dengan melakukan bimbingan belajar serta pemberian pre-test, post-test, dan kuesioner untuk mengukur seberapa jauh efektivitas bimbingan belajar yang diberikan terhadap siswa. Berdasarkan skor pre-test dan post-test diketahui bahwa persentase siswa yang mengalami kenaikan skor yaitu sebesar 55,55%. Selain itu juga terdapat siswa yang tidak mengalami kenaikan skor sebesar 44,45% dan setelah dilakukan wawancara, diketahui bahwa penyebabnya yaitu penguasaan kosa kata dan tata bahasa yang tidak memadai sehingga membuat mereka sulit untuk memahami bacaan dan menjawab pertanyaan. Adapun feedback kuesioner dari siswa menunjukkan bahwa nilai kepuasaan rata-rata berada di tingkat baik, yaitu sebesar 4,06/5,00. Saran untuk kedepannya jika melaksanakan kegiatan bimbingan belajar yaitu diharapkan agar dapat menambah frekuensi pelaksanaan kegiatan. Dengan adanya waktu yang cukup, materi belajar yang disampaikan akan lebih optimal

Abstract

This study aims to improve English pronunciation students through drilling techniques in English subject for 3rd-grade students at SDS Pelangi School. The subjects of this study were 9 which is 3rd-grade students. The instruments used are an observation field note and test and an interview. The study method used is Classroom Action Research. Starting from the problems experienced by students in English pronunciation at SDS Pelangi School are still low. Responding to existing problems, the right technique to improve students' English pronunciation is to use drilling techniques. This study was conducted in two cycles and the result showed there was also a significant increase in students' pronunciation. The average score of students from Cycle II increased by 10.34 from Cycle I. It can be said that the use of the drilling technique can improve student English pronunciation. Abstract

Abstract An autonomous learning system is being applied to students nowadays. Students are now encouraged and expected to play a more active role in learning. Autonomy learning is intensified to encourage students to be more independent, creative, and responsible for their learning. Through this article, writers explain how to promote autonomous learning. The method used is the library study related to autonomous learning. Writers explain further about the class design to promote autonomous learning and the strengths also weaknesses of this learning system. Based on this article's findings, possible ways are proposed to help and improve the implementation of autonomous learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the level of anxiety of students in facing an English test at Batam International University, taking into account the gender and proficiency of the students. This study wanted to find out whether there were significant differences in the level of test anxiety between the gender of students and proficiency scores, and to look for interactions between these two variables on test anxiety. This research uses a quantitative method using a survey research design. 100 learners (59 females and 41 males) became respondents to this research. The data were then analyzed using descriptive analysis. To examine significant differences and interactions between student gender and proficiency in test anxiety, Two Way Anova was used as a hypothesis testing tool. The results of this research indicate that learners at Batam International University experience and face moderate levels of test anxiety. The results of testing the hypothesis show that there is a significant difference in the level of exam anxiety between male and female students, where female students report higher levels of test anxiety (53.19) compared to male students (43.61). However, there was no significant difference in test anxiety levels among proficiency learners. In addition, there was no significant interaction between gender and proficiency in influencing the level of test anxiety among learners. Therefore, further research is needed to build stronger research on the effect of gender and proficiency on exam anxiety, and how it influences students' English test performance.

Abstract

This study aims to integrate ICT media in teaching and learning activities. The participants of the study were 44 students from 11th grade of social sciences and 1 English teacher at Public Senior High School 16 in Batam. This research uses convenience sampling. This study used two research instruments, namely questionnaires and interviews. The students' need analysis questionnaire in the form of Google Form was distributed face to face in the class through their WhatsApp group. The Likert scale used in this needs analysis questionnaire. the interview session conducted through Zoom and the result was in the form and has been transcribed. The collected data can then be used to design lesson plans and integrate technologies into teaching media while considering students' needs. Furthermore, integration of ICT in learning is carried out to determine whether ICT implementation can enhance students' interest in studying English or not.
