Abstract

Technology development is used to improve academic and non-academic students’ abilities in education. Many platforms and devices offer interesting material designs for learning activities. Attractive and sophisticated material design can increase students' motivation and interest in learning. The implementation of ICT in English subjects is done at SMAN Negeri 16 Batam to increase students’ motivation in learning. Interviews and questionnaires are conducted with the English teacher and students in grade XI of the Social Sciences Major. The Likert scale is designed as an instrument that consists of statements for data analysis. Through Google Forms will be shared online, students can fill in the questionnaires. The author conducts the interview face-to-face to obtain information based on the teacher’s point of view. The results will determine and identify issues for implementing ICT in the school. The author will decide on the teaching media and create material that is suitable for students based on the result of the data analysis. The output of this project is Lesson Plan, Teaching materials and assessments design that integrate ICT. The author introduces ICT through Microsite for assisting the teacher in teaching English. Lastly, the author concludes the result through the response of the partner.

Abstract

Diversity of religions, tribes, and races in Indonesia make Indonesia as a unique and rich country, but it also causes some disputes. It is not one or two times the disputes emerges. This indicates that Indonesians have lack of knowledge about racism and harmonization and how to maintain harmony by respecting and tolerating others. Thus, education on racism and harmonization is urgently needed. This study is going to design or create an educational video that is uploaded to YouTube that is expected to be able to increase people awareness on racism and harmonization. YouTube is chosen because it is easily accessed. The educational video got positive responds that stated that the video can enrich knowledge and increase the awareness on racism and harmonization. This may because the video outlines unique and interesting explanation through the animation and the video is easy to understand.

Abstract

Present research discusses student satisfaction with the English subject by using hybrid learning. This learning system is a learning adjustment process during Covid-19. High schools in Batam have implemented hybrid learning focusing on English subjects. This research aims to find out student satisfaction with hybrid learning by giving the predictive factor that has been provided and how students develop their English subject. The subjects of this research are 214 high school students in Batam, consisting of 20 schools. This study used a mixed method in which the data collection was done through questionnaires and interviews. This study provides factors in the form of satisfaction with hybrid learning, student's rate the computer literacy, student's perception toward the instructor and online learning, and the data from the questionnaire are strengthened by an interview result. The results showed that students rated computer literacy as the most satisfactory category, with an average of 4.33. Students' perceptions of teachers entered the category satisfied with an average score of 3.95, students' perceptions of online learning were also satisfied with an average score of 3.91, and students' attitudes towards hybrid learning were satisfied with an average value of 3.90. The interview results showed that each factor supported students in developing their English language learning. Each factor has advantages and disadvantages for developing English using hybrid learning.

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris adalah salah satu bahasa yang paling dikenal di dunia. Sebagai salah satu bahasa yang paling banyak digunakan di dunia, orang-orang mulai belajar bahasa Inggris di semua tingkatan. Namun, beberapa orang tidak beruntung dan tidak mendapatkan kesempatan untuk belajar bahasa Inggris secara resmi, itu sebabnya layanan masyarakat ini dilakukan. Dengan tim yang terdiri dari 4 orang, kami melakukan pengabdian masyarakat dengan mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris yang menyenangkan kepada anak-anak dari Panti Asuhan Vistos Kasih Ikhlas. Anak-anak bersenang-senang ketika belajar bahasa Inggris, sementara mereka juga fokus pada subjek. Abstract

English has been taught in face-to-face class. However, since Covid-19 exploded into a global pandemic and Indonesia confirmed the first case on 2 March 2, 2020, the local government implement a policy to dismiss schools for avoiding a wider spread of the virus in schools. Covid-19 shifted the way students learn from the traditional face-to-face class to long-distance classes or what is called online class. Still, the way online class is something very new for both students and teachers. As a result, the objective of this study is to find the students’ perception of e-learning in English Language Education in Universitas Internasional Batam, this study is conducted. The quantitative method was used by conducting a survey toward 79 students in English Language Education Department. The instrument of data collection were close-ended questions and interview. By concerning the advantage, confidence, effectiveness, and efficiency of utilizing e-learning, the result shows that the average score of the categories is 2.915 which is categorized as positive perception of e-learning.

Abstract

The 21st-century educational landscape, shaped by technology and diverse student needs, emphasizes digital literacy, personalized learning, and innovative teaching. TikTok's role in enhancing English skills has been explored, showing positive impacts on proficiency and pronunciation. This study investigates TikTok's influence on English learning motivation among students, using a mixed-method approach at SMK Negeri 2 Batam. Classroom observations, questionnaires, and interviews with students and teachers form the data collection methods. Analysis involves defining objectives, data cleaning, selecting appropriate techniques, and drawing conclusions. The study aims to provide insights into leveraging technology for language learning, emphasizing the need for adaptable education to meet contemporary learners' demands.

Abstract

The study was conducted to explore the effect of TikTok in developing the students’ motivation in speaking. The study was conducted through Classroom Action Research. The involved participants were 25 students from the tenth grade of SMA Kristen Kalam Kudus, Selatpanjang. The study used qualitative and quantitative methods in collecting the data. The research procedures were planned in organized procedures as mentioned: planning, implementing, observation and reflection. The research instruments were questionnaire, pre-test, and post-test. The questionnaire was designed into Likert scale format. Then, the pre-test and post-test were implemented in the study. The post-test took two cycles. The research findings identified that the students’ motivation level was at a moderate level 3.84. However, the post-test showed that the students’ scores rapidly increased and were better than their pre-test. Therefore, the implementation of TikTok proved that it was effective to develop students’ motivation in speaking ability. In conclusion, TikTok application engaged the students to enjoy the learning especially in motivating them to speak. Students were free to express their ideas while making the content.
