Abstract

Islam is the last religion revealed by Allah to the whole human beings in the world as peace for all, and perfect religion before Islam. Islam with its universal and inclusive teaching is the only religion that can receive other religion as a faith understanding. Formally, Qur’an also acknowledges the prophets of religions before Islam and does not discriminate other religions. Islam does not make the difference of religion not be kind, not make good social relationship, and not do justice in social life as long as it does not bring about faith contamination and does not get across Muslim community

Abstract

Hamzah Fansuri is a Nusantara (Indonesian) sufi who used poems as a medium to convey his messages. In order to understand the symbols used in his poems, a hermeneutics approach is required, especially by using theories of metaphor and symbol which are inseparable parts of ta’wil or Islamic hermeneutics. His poems were mostly inspired by his thoughts and spiritual as well as mystical experiences. For him the poems served not only as emotional revelation, but also as stairways to God, transcendental medium, and self transformation. His poems were widely recognized as hermeneutics poetry or ta’wil verses which are often the esoteric tafsir (meaning) of Quran. He used language symbols which have contextual characteristics, such as boat, bird, trading, sub trading, etc.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the concept of Sufism of al-Muhasibi and al-Ghazali in the autobiography of Kitab al-Washaya and al-Munqidz min al-Dhalal as well as the intertextuality of the autobiography of al-Washaya and al-Munqidz min al-Dhalal?. The primary sources used are al-Washaya by al-Muhasibi and al-Munqidz min al-Dhalal by al-Ghazali. The science of Sufism for al-Muhasibi and al-Ghazali is the scientific culmination of various epistemologies whose truth validity can be justified. For both, Sufism is able to satisfy intellectual and spiritual thirst. The intertextual relationship between the two works of Sufism can be seen in the background of the two authors in the form of the cultural background, intellectual and psychological conditions of the two figures before their conversion to Sufism. Intertextual relations are also found in themes, plots, characterizations and language styles.
