Abstract

Critical Theory, especially of the Frankfurt School variant, is one of the theoretical and methodological lenses used quite often by contemporary Islamic thinkers. One thinker who is explicit in his adoption and adaptation of the thinking of the Frankfurt School is Fawzia Gilani-Williams who proposes an "Islamic Critical Theory". This article responds to her thought and at the same time departs from it to explore further the acceptance of this neo-Marxist thought in the discourse developed by Muslim intellectuals. At the same time, this article provides a response to the Islamization project of this idea, but also shows that at the most basic critical point, there is a parallelism between the Islamic ideals and the ideological ideals of the Frankfurt School Critical Theory.

Abstract

The main purpose of this article consists in investigating the phenomenological perspective used by Merleau-Ponty in evaluating critically the conception of knowledge. This investigation is aimed at finding a new path for understanding the essence of knowledge that is formulated by some philosophical mainstreams, such as naturalism and objectivism. Ponty’s phenomenological critique to the philosophy of knowledge is related to to the description of knowledge as a human condition, which makes the thinking of the knowledge problem possible. The phenomenological account that Ponty offers is that we experience ourselves, not as distinct ‘minds’ and ‘bodies’, but as unified persons who form intentions and act in the world, but can do so only because our bodies function mechanically in certain ways. As being poured in his work “the Structure of Behavior”, Ponty explained that the integration of matter, life and mind are obtained by reduction to a common denominator of physical form. This explanation emphasized that the Gestalists had misunderstood the ultimate implications of their own work, because they believed that the notion of structure can be thought within the naturalist ontology that subtended the thought of the atomists whom they had criticized.

Abstract

Corporations as one of the important engines of modern capitalism have been able to create abundant wealth in the economy. However, along with its success, social life and the natural environment are in a precarious condition. This welfare machine actually threatens justice and sustainability, two values that are no less important than wealth, for human existence. Therefore, the authors then propose cooperatives as an institutional alternative. By reviewing history and using empirical data, it can be seen that although in other developed economies, cooperatives can play a significant role, in Indonesian, our cooperatives only play a minor role. Therefore, the authors propose the concept of a generic cooperative as an effort to represent the original and basic cooperative spirit.

Abstract

Hatuhaha Amarima Lou Nusa refers to an indigenous group that has a specific culture from ancestors to contemporary times. The content of cultural values of Hatuhaha Amarima is important to be applied to the context of the daily lives of Hatuhaha Amarima Lou Nusa's people in particular and Indonesia in general. This paper aims to reveal the dynamics of historical and cultural forms of Hatuhaha Amarima, and to explore the nature of Hatuhaha Amarima, along with the values which contained in it with Cornelis Anthonie van Peursen's philosophy of culture perspective. The essence of Hatuhaha Amarima are contained with society (human), history, territory, customs and culture, and language. As the result, the study explaints the epistemologycal aspect of Hatuhaha Amarima in its realistic nature. Also, the study finds a cultural polarization of Hatuhaha Amarima that is as monodualistic in its nature, so it is presenting the feel of living together in multiculturalism with relative condition; ethnicity, religion, and culture. One of the most important point of culture that was passed on by people of Hatuhaha Amarima is the relation of I – You. This is existing in the context of kinship systems, family systems and brotherhood. Obviously, the cultural values of Hatuhaha Amarima has tighted connection with Bhineka Tunggal Ika's principles, so that it is important to applicate it to the context of the state living integrity and nation in Indonesia. The soul of cultural values of Hatuhaha Amarima represented of the ideal values of Pancasila and universal values.

Abstract

This research is intended a.tt an attempt to disclose the meaning of theology of liberation and its relevance in the context of plurality of' religions in Asia. The meaning and the relevance will be analyzed according to the notion ofAsghar Ali Engineer, a Muslim theolog borned in India who has vigorous mind and revolutionary attitude in working. This research used in the effort to actualize the theological transformative-revolutionary meanings, especially for Islamic theology to face the problematic of contemporary human lifeThe thought concept ofAsghar Ali in the context ofthe plurality ofreligion.s inAsia, in this research is analyzed by philosophy ofreligion approach. The following methods are applied in this research, that· are; historical continuity, analysis and synthesis, interpretation, and description.The results ofthi.tt research show that the fundamental problems ofthe Asghar Ali's theology of liberation in the context oj' the plurality of religions as its background, relate to the attempt to formulate thereltgionmeantng (essence) in the human life. The problems maintain all of the ·theological, human, and justice dimensions. The thought of Asghar Ali about theology of liberation is constructed in  the frame ofreligion (Islam) values that are centralized on the tauhid· concept by its moral vision. The thought is intended to realize a universal brotherhood,equality,  and social justice. Interreligious dialogue and theactiono! the religions in Asia, therefore implemented through the basical paradigm in the frame ofthat value and mottol vision.

Abstract

This research is purposed as an effort to gain a new understanding about status and role of women according to Riffat Hasan's thought. The probelms are; what is status and role of women likes in Riffat Hasan's feminism theology and how did feminism theology reconstruct the comprehension on status and role of women? The elements of the philosophical method that are used in this research are; interpretation, internal coherence, heuristic, and description.Riffat Hasan had analyzed critically the root of the status and role women probelm by disclosing the influence of patriach traditions in the view and religion teachings interpretations that are always used as legitimatization for man's superiority. Considering the Al Qur"an, Riffat Hassan formulated a comprehension that essentially, the status and role of women is equal. Both men and women are created from nafs (living entity) the one is not have superiority on the other one.

Abstract

Ada banyak tesis tentang manusia, tetapi ada dua tesis yang sangat mendasar yaitu manusia sebagai homo religiosus dan manusia sebagai animal educandum. Dua tesis ini menyentuh aspek penting dalam hidup manusia. Objek material penelitian ini adalah homo religiosus, dan objek formal yang dipergunakan adalah filsafat pendidikan. Landasan terori yang digunakan adalah teori Mircea Eliade. Penelitian ini bertujuan: 1. Mendapatkan gambaran makna dari homo religiosus, 2. Menemukan pemahaman apa peran homo religiosus dalam pendidikan. Penelitian ini adalah penilitian filsafat dengan model studi pustaka. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode hermeneutika dengan unsur-unsur metodis: interpretasi, analisa, idealisasi, dan diskripsi. Hasil yang dicapai dari penelitian ini adalah adanya hubungan manusia sebagai homo religiosus dan animal educandum. Homo religiosus merukapan landasan bagi suatu filsafat pendidikan teistik. Homo religious sebagai ontologi, orientasi dan tujuan dari pendidikan. Homo religiosus membuat pendidikan menjadi bermakna.
