Abstract

A happy family is not one that experiences no issues in everyday life. A happy family still needs the key to the strength and happiness through resilience, i.e., the ability of a family to survive from difficult challenges. This study aims to discuss family resilience from the perspective of Indigenous psychology in Aceh. The study used qualitative and quantitative methods with open coding data analysis. The participants in this study were husbands or wives of Aceh, Gayo, and Javanese tribes totaling 146 participants. The participants were grouped into three categories, i.e., the elderly couples (15%, n=22), middle-aged couples (46%, n=67), and newly married couples (39%, n=57). The results of the qualitative data analysis on how to recover from adversity in the family (i.e., family resilience) from the Indigenous perspective on the elderly couples, starting from the most dominant, are “communicating well” (31.8%), “praying and worshiping” (18.2%), and “being patient” (18.2%), while the rest mentioned “giving in, forgiving, children, and family support”, among others. Further, the middle-aged couples also showed the dominant responses for “communicating well” (28.4%), “self-introspection” (14.9%), and “praying and worshiping” (10.4%), while the rest had lower proportions. Newly married couples also indicated higher percentages in “communicating well” (36.8%), “praying and worshiping” (28.1%), and “self-introspection” (8.8%), whereas other responses had lower percentages. In general, the findings reveal that “communicating well” (32.0%), “praying and worshiping” (16.3%), “self-introspection” (12.2%), and “being patient” (8.2%) are the renewal aspects of resilience from the Indigenous perspective. This suggests that the resilience of married couples in Aceh not only relies on their ability to recover or to be resilient on their own, but also puts more emphasis on mutual communication, praying, and worshiping. Bonanno's approach emphasizes resilience in aspects of tough personality, self-improvement and repressive self-adjustment.

Abstract

Attention which is achieved through the process of adapting to new conditions and information can be an issue for new students. Previous studies have suggested that listening to Quran recitation (murattal) can positively influence attention. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of listening to Quran recitation on students’ attention. The research was conducted by designing a quasi-experiment with a non-randomized pre-test and post-test control groups. Besides this, the groups were divided into two, the experimental group and the control group. The data were collected from 20 new students of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University as a sample, who met the criteria of having healthy hearing conditions and obtained GPA > 3.50. The measuring instrument utilized in the study was the number range test of Weschler Intelligence Scale, while the treatment used was listening to Quran recitation. Then, the data was analyzed using a paired t-test to examine the difference in attention between the experimental group and the control group. The results showed that there was a difference in the average attention score between the experimental group of 11.70, and the control group of 8.80 with a significance level of 0.026 (P < 0,05). Thus, the findings of the study indicate that there is a significant difference in attention between the experimental group and the control group after listening to Quran recitation.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores light as a metaphor for consciousness by integrating Suhrawardi’s philosophy of illumination with modern psychology. In Suhrawardi’s view, light is not only a metaphysical symbol but an ontological reality linking human beings to the divine source of knowledge. Meanwhile, modern psychology examines consciousness through neurocognitive, cognitive, and phenomenological perspectives. Using a qualitative library-based method and philosophical hermeneutics, this research identifies areas of convergence and divergence between the two approaches. The findings reveal that Suhrawardi’s gradation of light offers a framework for understanding consciousness as a multilayered spiritual process rather than merely a biological phenomenon. This concept parallels modern psychology’s notions of self-actualization and peak experience. The integration of these perspectives provides valuable insights for developing spirituality-based psychotherapy, Islamic counseling, and consciousness education in Indonesia, highlighting the relevance of Islamic intellectual traditions to contemporary psychological discourse. Abstract

The Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire (WFRQ) is a widely used instrument for measuring family resilience in various cultural contexts. However, research on its psychometric quality using the Rasch model approach is still limited, especially in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the item fit, unidimensionality, difficulty level, and reliability of the WFRQ by involving 355 adult respondents living with their nuclear or extended families. Data analysis was performed using WINSTEP software. The results show that most WFRQ items meet the fit criteria with Mean Square (MNSQ) values ranging from 0.5 to 1.5. Two items (8 and 20) were eliminated because they did not meet the fit criteria. The reliability value was excellent, with a person reliability of 0.94 and an item reliability of 0.96. The Wright Map showed that the majority of respondents were at a moderate to high level of resilience, while the item difficulty level was relatively low, making the instrument easy for respondents with high resilience.  Keywords: Rasch model, WFRQ, Psychometrics
