Abstract

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an important instrument in ensuring that all development activities are carried out sustainably without neglecting environmental protection aspects. This study aims to examine the development of the concept, regulations, and role of EIA in environmental management through a literature review approach. Various scientific sources were used to explore how AMDAL has developed since the enactment of the initial provisions on environmental management to the latest regulations that strengthen AMDAL's position as an instrument for environmental licensing and supervision. The results of the study show that AMDAL has a strategic role in identifying potential negative impacts, formulating mitigation measures, and ensuring the integration of development policies and environmental sustainability. In addition, regulatory changes over time indicate an increase in the government's commitment to environmental protection through the improvement of the AMDAL mechanism. Thus, AMDAL has become an instrument that is not only normative but also operational in realizing environmentally conscious and sustainable development.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of a Virtual Reality Environment (VRE) designed for geography instruction, specifically targeting volcanic stratigraphy within the Mount Bromo region. Subsequently, the study evaluates user experience (UX) to determine the media's technical usability and its capacity for pedagogical engagement. This virtual reality environment  media is produced through a series of scientific research and development procedures (plomp model) which comprises three distinct phases: preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment. User response data were gathered via the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) administered to 25 tenth-grade students, evaluating both pragmatic and hedonistic qualities. The user experience evaluation indicated that the VRE media effectively facilitates the identification of volcanic rock layers. The results demonstrated high levels of clarity and efficiency, suggesting that the immersive environment assists students in distinguishing complex stratigraphic features that are otherwise difficult to observe in traditional settings. In addition, they indirectly stated that this VRE media is efficient enough to explore learning to distant places, useful, exciting, interesting, motivate them to learn, and has a good novelty for exploring geography learning.

Abstract

Curug Pamipiran, located in Tanjungsari Village, Sadananya District, Ciamis Regency, has natural and socio-cultural potential for community-based ecotourism development. This study aims to identify its potential, challenges, and development directions. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using field observations and in-depth interviews with community leaders, village government representatives, tourism actors, and tourists selected purposively. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings show that Curug Pamipiran has attractive natural landscapes, local cultural potential, and strong community enthusiasm for tourism development. However, its development is constrained by weak institutional capacity, limited infrastructure, inadequate community skills, and suboptimal digital promotion. Development efforts should therefore focus on strengthening local institutions, improving community capacity, providing environmentally friendly facilities, enhancing digital promotion, and integrating ecotourism into village development planning.

Abstract

Drought is a hydrometeorological disaster that can threaten water availability and increase the vulnerability of urban communities. This study aims to analyze drought disaster risk in Cilembang Village, Tasikmalaya City, based on hazard, vulnerability, and capacity components. A descriptive approach combined with spatial analysis based on secondary data was employed. Hazard was assessed using rainfall, slope, soil type, geological structure, and land-use parameters; vulnerability covered economic, social, and environmental dimensions; while capacity was evaluated based on community and institutional preparedness. Each parameter was classified and scored, and the components were subsequently integrated through an overlay technique using ArcGIS 10.8. The results indicate that Cilembang Village has high drought hazard and vulnerability levels, influenced by low rainfall according to the classification applied in this study, the dominance of residential land use of approximately 90%, high population density, and limited water infiltration areas. Institutional capacity is already present; however, drought-specific early warning systems and community participation still require strengthening. The integration of hazard, vulnerability, and capacity indicates that Cilembang Village is classified as having a high drought risk. These findings emphasize the importance of water conservation, sustainable land-use management, and strengthening community capacity as key components of drought risk reduction strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to map the spatial distribution of batik industries in Tasikmalaya City and to analyze their implications for development geography. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach combined with spatial analysis using ArcGIS 10.8, field observations, interviews with industry actors, and Nearest Neighbor Analysis (NNA). The results from 10 batik industry units show that the industries tend to be spatially concentrated and form a clustered pattern, particularly in Cipedes and Indihiang Districts, especially in the Nagarasari, Cigeureung, and Ciroyom areas. This pattern is associated with the proximity among industry units, accessibility to major road networks, the availability of local labor, and the ease of product distribution. The spatial concentration of batik industries has the potential to support the formation of creative economy clusters and strengthen local economic activities; however, it also indicates that industrial development has not been evenly distributed across Tasikmalaya City. These findings highlight the importance of spatial mapping as a basis for developing batik industry clusters and supporting more equitable and sustainable creative-economy-based regional development planning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of plastic waste pollution on the ecosystem and water quality of Cipatujah Beach, Tasikmalaya Regency. The main problem is the high consumption of single-use plastics by the population in Cipatujah District (approx. 53,818 residents) and tourist surges, exacerbated by an ineffective waste management system. The method used is qualitative descriptive with the DPSIR (Driving Force, Pressure, State, Impact, Response) analytical framework and participatory observation techniques. Results indicate that waste accumulation, dominated by plastic beverage bottles, plastic bags, and styrofoam, has reached alarming levels and is concentrated along the coastline. The pollution impact is evident in the decline in seawater quality, including increased Total Suspended Solids (TSS)/turbidity and decreased Dissolved Oxygen (DO) due to rising Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)/Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Furthermore, plastic degradation into microplastics releases hazardous chemicals and threatens marine biota and human health via the food chain. Existing responses include community self-initiated clean-up efforts and village government campaigns, but success in overcoming this crisis is highly dependent on strong cross-sector collaboration and a fundamental change in plastic consumption behavior
