Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is an important indicator in assessing the health status of newborns, and contributes to increased neonatal morbidity and mortality rates. Maternal factors, especially nutritional status and adequacy of micronutrient intake during pregnancy, are known to influence the incidence of LBW. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal nutritional status and micronutrient intake (iron and folic acid) with the incidence of LBW in the Deket Health Center working area, Lamongan Regency. This study used a descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 11 pregnant women who gave birth at the Deket Health Center in 2024. Data were collected through structured interviews, nutritional status assessments based on KEK indicators, and assessments of iron and folic acid intake. The analysis was carried out using the Fisher's Exact Test. Of the 11 respondents, 3 cases of LBW were found. There were 3 mothers who experienced KEK, 6 mothers with insufficient iron intake, and 7 mothers who did not meet folic acid needs. The results of statistical tests showed that the relationship between nutritional status and micronutrient intake with the incidence of LBW was not statistically significant (p = 0.091), but showed a tendency for a clinically relevant relationship. Nutritional status and adequacy of micronutrient intake of pregnant women have the potential to influence the incidence of LBW although the relationship was not statistically significant. Prevention efforts through nutritional education and monitoring the status of pregnant women need to be strengthened as part of health services at the Community Health Center.

Abstract

Stunting in children is a complex health problem with long-term impacts on physical growth, cognitive development, and future individual productivity. One contributing factor to stunting is poor environmental sanitation, particularly during pregnancy. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women about the importance of environmental sanitation as a preventative measure against stunting in children. The activity was carried out in Rancangkencono Village, involving 12 pregnant women as participants. The implementation method included direct counseling, group discussions, and demonstrations of basic sanitation practices such as handwashing, using healthy latrines, and managing household waste. Evaluation was conducted by comparing pretest and posttest results to measure knowledge gains. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score of participants from 55 in the pretest to 85 in the posttest. In addition, participants demonstrated positive changes in attitudes toward implementing clean and healthy living behaviors in the home environment. Data analysis showed that a participatory and contextual educational approach can increase the understanding and motivation of pregnant women to maintain environmental cleanliness for the health of their fetus and unborn child. Environmental sanitation education has proven to be an effective strategy in preventing stunting from pregnancy, so it needs to be implemented sustainably with cross-sector support at the community level.

Abstract

Pregnancy exercise is a sports activity carried out by pregnant women to prepare themselves for the birth process. Pregnancy exercise is given to pregnant women to prepare the mother's physical condition, to maintain the condition of the muscles and joints which play a role in the birth process, as well as to prepare the mother's psychological condition, especially to foster confidence and self-readiness in facing the birth process, so pregnancy exercise really needs to be emphasized to pregnant women. Pregnancy exercise is very important for pregnant women from 22 weeks of gestation onwards. The research design carried out was Correlational Analysis.

Abstract

Anemia is one of the major nutritional issues in Indonesia and a prevalent problem among pregnant women worldwide, with a relatively high incidence rate. Pregnant women are particularly susceptible to anemia because the increased nutritional requirements during pregnancy are crucial for both maternal health and fetal growth. Pregnancy-related anemia is defined as a hemoglobin (Hb) level less than 11 (g/dL) in the blood of pregnant women. This study aims to analyze the relationship between anemia and the occurrence of Low Birth Weight (LBW). The research was conducted in the VK Room of Sugio Primary Health Care, Lamongan Regency, over a period of 2 months in August-September 2023. The research method used was a Retrospective Observational Study with a Cross-Sectional design. Based on the Chi-Square statistical test results, the p-value was 0.025 (p-value < 0.05). In conclusion, this study found a significant association between anemia during pregnancy and the incidence of LBW.
