Abstract

Klungkung Regency is the smallest regency in the province of Bali, Indonesia. The waters of Jumpai Beach are one of the areas in Klungkung, which is one area that is used by the surrounding population for fishing activities for fishermen to obtain fishery products. Remote sensing technology has been applied because of its effectiveness and the significance of its use in compiling and revising resource maps. It is also helpful to support resource planning and management. A bathymetry map is a map that describes the depth of the sea and is presented using contour lines. Contour lines are abstract lines connecting several locations or areas with the same height or depth. Remote sensing techniques are available to determine the ocean’s depth because the air has signals from the very bottom of the ocean with strong solid wavelengths. However, the penetration of electromagnetic energy is limited. Therefore, remote sensing techniques are adopted to infer water depth and shallowness. One of the satellites that can be used for bathymetry mapping is Landsat-8. Landsat imagery has a spatial resolution of 30 meters, complemented by the visible channels required to extract bathymetric maps. Accurate estimation of shallow water area bathymetry for the safety of small boat navigation such as fishing and for benthic studies. Remote sensing technology can be considered one of the most desirable alternative tools for bathymetry development.

Abstract

Lipah Beach holds the potential for coral reefs, although this potential is considered moderate due to anthropogenic destructive activities. The spider skeleton method has been employed as a coral rehabilitation effort at Lipah Beach. Aside from its cost-effectiveness, the spider framework also provides a waterway. The success of coral rehabilitation can be measured by assessing the growth rate and survival rate of transplanted corals. Corals of the Acropora genus, including A. formosa and A. intermedia, are known for their rapid growth and high resilience. These corals possess significant aesthetic value but are currently threatened as they continue to be traded. The primary objective of this research is to determine the growth rate and survival rate of transplanted A. formosa and A.intermedia using the spider skeleton method. The research adopts an experimental approach with direct observation. Each type of coral, A. formosa and A. intermedia, is represented by 20 fragments, totaling 40 transplanted fragments. The study spans over 4 months to monitor coral growth and survival rates, along with monthly measurements of seawater quality parameters to assess their conditions. The findings reveal that A. intermedia exhibits a growth rate of 0.81 cm per month, surpassing that of A. formosa, which measures 0.73 cm per month. Conversely, the survival rate of A. formosa is higher at 75% compared to A. intermedia at 70%. By the end of the study, 15 fragments of A.formosa and 14 fragments of A. intermedia remained viable.

Abstract

Abstract

The Tourism Suitability Index (IKW) shows the assessment of an area regarding the level of suitability/feasibility to become a tourist attraction. An important aspect in the use of natural resources for tourism activities is the suitability of tourism and strategies for its development. The research aims to determine the value of the Tourism Suitability Index (IKW) and development strategies that can be used for management at Mengening Beach, Badung Regency, Bali. Data collection was carried out in April-May 2024 at three observation stations. Data collection uses primary and secondary data. Primary data is based on observations of beach type parameters, beach width, depth, beach slope, current speed, water brightness, bottom water material, land cover, availability of clean water, dangerous biota as well as questionnaire interviews with beach visitors using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis uses the results of IKW measurements and SWOT analysis. Based on IKW calculations at three points, namely station I of 2,195, station II of 2,475, and station III of 2,475. The total analysis value of 2.0 ≤ IKW < 2.5 is included in the appropriate category. The strategy that can be applied at Mengening Beach in developing beach tourism is the SO (Strength-Opportunity) strategy, which involves external management at Mengening Beach, optimizing the use of social media and adding tourist attractions at Mengening Beach.
