Abstract

Piyungan landfill is the biggest landfill in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, which receives municipal solid waste (MSW) from two districts and a city, while its designed service time has been over and faces operational obstacles. Meanwhile, the volume of the MSW grows rapidly and exceeds the reduction rate in their sources. The difficulty in finding a new landfill area is the reason why appropriate technological alternatives in the MSW management are strongly needed. Therefore, the study aimed to evaluate the social and economic aspects and formulate appropriate technology based on the waste entrepreneurship (wastepreneurship) concept. The methods of this study were conducting calculation of waste characteristics and composition, social evaluation, and economic evaluation of the combination of composting, incinerator, and sanitary landfill. Waste characteristics and composition were taken using direct field measurement following Indonesia's National Standard Guideline about retrieving and measuring examples of urban waste emergence and composition. Characteristics of waste are used for the calculation of calorific value and energy. The social evaluation was conducted using an in-depth interview with the rag pickers. The economic evaluation was conducted using net present value, internal rate of return, and payback period. The result of the study shows that Piyungan Landfill with total combustion waste reach 82.22% has the potential of incinerator implementation. In social evaluation, the implementation of composting and incinerator technologies would open employment for the surrounding community and rag pickers. The economic evaluation shows the combination of composting and incinerator technologies was economically feasible with an average profit margin of 12.97% in the operational period of 18 years. In conclusion, the concept of wastepreneurship is relevant in Piyungan Landfill by adjusting the MSW management paradigm from previously cost-center into business-center.

Abstract

This article investigates the extent to which the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for products adopted and applied by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, can encourage them to effectively implement a quality management system (QMS) within their internal organizations, which eventually affects and benefits their process performance and clean production practices. Survey data collected from 44 respondents in 12 SMEs with SNI-certified products were processed and examined using descriptive analysis and regression analysis. The results showed that these could implement QMS effectively partly because it is a requirement for the SNI certification of the proposed product. The effectiveness of QMS implementation affects the achievement of process performance in that it can reduce the number of defective products, process costs, and process cycle times. According to the respondents, an effective QMS makes every activity and action taken in the production process more environmentally friendly and leads to cleaner production practices. These findings can help further research determine the model's feasibility to design and develop a better framework that promotes QMS and clean production practices, especially among SMEs in Indonesia.

Kata kunci: budidaya, perkotaan, perbanyakan vegetative, sosialisasi ABSTRACT The growth of settlements is the main cause of unhealthy urban development and tends to occur in irregularities in land use. The conversion of agricultural land into urban ecosystems in the form of housing and settlements has an impact on reduced water catchment areas so that it can cause flooding and soil erosion. This service activity aims to organize reforestation on new hanian lands in the Solo or Surakarta area. The activity was carried out in Tegal Asri No.03/17, Banjarsari Village, Banjarsari District, Surakarta City with the partner of the Women Farmers Group (WFG) Amara Gardenia, Banjarsari Village. The community service method is divided into three activities, namely: 1) socialization of mango cultivation, 2) simulation of planting, plant maintenance and distribution of mango seeds, 3) evaluation of planting mango shoot grafting seeds. The results of this service activity increase public knowledge regarding land use for manganese cultivation and environmental conversion. Mango cultivation has been carried out by the community by planting seedlings from shoot grafting. Mango production technology aims to support the environment and the emergence of community motivation, especially in the development of Science and Technology in the agricultural sector which is proven by the active role of Women Farmers Group during the implementation of service. Abstract

The phenomenon of climate change has an impact on agricultural sector, including the cultivation of shallots. To meet the needs of the community, an approach is taken through the application of biofertilizers and the use of shallot varieties that are resistant to off-season cultivation. The research aimed to determine the optimal concentration of biofertilizer and the resilient shallot varieties for the off-season cultivation. This research was conducted in February–May 2023 in Ngringo Village, Jaten District, Karanganyar, Central Java, with an altitude of 189 masl. This study used a Split Plot Design method. Shallot Variety was the main plot, namely: Bima Brebes, Maja Cipanas, and Bali Karet. Biofertilizer concentration was the subplots, i.e : 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 ml l-1 per plot, resulting in 15 treatment combinations with three replications. Observation parameters included leaf area index, net assimilation rate, plant growth rate, bulb diameter, and bulb fresh weight. The results indicated that biofertilizers did not affect the growth of shallots. Regarding yield quality, a concentration of 12 ml l-1 per plot could increase bulb diameter and bulb fresh weight. The Bali Karet variety generated better bulb diameter and bulb fresh weight, and it is capable of adapting when planted off-season.ABSTRAKFenomena perubahan iklim berpengaruh pada sektor pertanian, termasuk budidaya bawang merah. Abstract

Tawangmangu District, Indonesia, is located in a highland area with a cool climate and is predominantly composed of Andisol soil types, offering great potential for the development of potato crops (Solanum tuberosum L.). This study aims to examine soil physical properties suitable for potato cultivation, analyze the distribution of these properties across different slope gradients, and identify appropriate soil management strategies for the Tawangmangu area. The research employed a descriptive-exploratory approach, utilizing land map units (LMUs) that were determined through the overlay of soil type maps, rainfall data, slope gradients, and land use. The overlay resulted in 5 LMUs and 25 sampling points. Observed soil physical parameters included texture, porosity, permeability, consistency, effective soil depth, coarse material, and drainage. The land suitability assessment showed that LMUs 1, 2, and 3 were classified as S3-oa, limited by drainage, while LMUs 4 and 5 were classified as S3-oa,rc, limited by both drainage and effective soil depth. Slope gradient significantly affected moisture content (p = 0.022), bulk density (p = 0.037), particle density (p = 0.048), porosity (p = 0.032), effective soil depth (p = 0.001), and coarse material content (p = 0.032). Recommended land management efforts include the addition of organic matter, manual tillage for shallow soils, and the application of eco-drainage techniques to improve soil physical suitability for potato cultivation in Tawangmangu.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) constructs — attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control — on students’ sustainable behavior across four dimensions: pro-ecological, frugal, altruistic, and equitable, while mapping student perceptions of UI GreenMetric indicators to identify Green Campus intervention priorities at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS). A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed involving 163 active UNS students selected through purposive sampling, using validated questionnaires analyzed through multiple linear regression. The TPB model significantly predicted sustainable behavior overall, with attitude and perceived behavioral control as consistent significant predictors while the subjective norm showed no significant effect at the aggregate level. Predictive power varied dramatically across dimensions, from near-strong explanation in altruistic and pro-ecological behavior to near-zero in equitable behavior, revealing that sustainable behavior dimensions operate through fundamentally different psychological mechanisms, with equitable behavior appearing to function through moral value processes beyond TPB’s explanatory scope. Perception mapping identified a structural gap between institutional achievement and student experience: waste management, despite UNS ranking 4th nationally, was identified as the top student priority yet barely perceived in daily campus life, while sustainable transportation emerged as the sharpest paradox confirmed simultaneously by regression findings, behavioral self-reports, and GreenMetric rankings. These findings challenge the assumption that high institutional sustainability achievement automatically produces behavioral change among students, and call for differentiated strategies targeting infrastructure improvement, social norm reinforcement, and program communication embedded in students’ daily experience.
