Abstract

The organic farming community Al Barokah was formed in the village of Ketapang, sub-district of Susukan, district of Semarang in 2004, which includes the farmer group Al Barokah 3 and the farmer group Walisongo. The wish to cultivate organic rice has arisen in 2002, and was followed-up by studies for more information, know-how and skills. The area of land that is cultivated organically increases steadily each year, and is currently almost 300 ha. In 2015, through the accompaniment of LPPM UNS, an organic certificate from organic certification institution was obtained. One of the important problems faced by the organic farming community Al Barokah is the availability of water for irrigation, especially in dry season. Therefore, there is a need for a science-technology (Iptek) program for the community: Implementation of an irrigation well system for the organic rice farmer group to increase the production of organic rice. The project is conducted from June to October2017. Group participative method is used, because active participation from the community in every step of the program is required by supporting the resources of the farmer group.

Abstract

Black cincau leaf (Mesona palustris BL) is one of the main commodities of Nawangan District, Pacitan Regency which has high fiber and antioxidant content. In general, the cincau leaves produced at Nawangan are only sold in the form of dried leaves so that their economic value is low. Processing of dried black grass jelly leaves into processed food products can increase its economic value. The problem faced by the Nawangan community in an effort to increase the economic value of cincau leaves is that the Nawangan people do not yet have the skills and knowledge regarding various forms of processed which have a higher selling value. Through the Community Empowerment Community Service program, efforts are made to diversify processed products of black cincau leaves in the form of pastry products (nastar and cookies). This program aims to improve the skills of the Nawangan community in processing black cincau leaves into several food products that have high selling value. This activity was carried out in three stages, namely socialization, implementation of training and monitoring. The outputs produced in this activity are processed products of black cincau leaves which are expected to be the superior products of the Nawangan District.

Abstract

Kecamatan Jenawi, merupakan salah satu kecamatan yang berada di wilayah Kabupaten Karanganyar. Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta telah menjadikan kecamatan ini sebagai lokasi pilot project penanaman tanaman pisang hasil kultur jaringan, produksi dosen Fakultas Pertanian UNS. Oleh sebab itu di Jenawi dijumpai banyak tanaman pisang yang tumbuh dengan baik dengan produksi buah yang melimpah. Program IbM yang dilaksanakan ini merupakan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilaksanakan di Kelompok Wanita Tani Rejeki Mandiri dan Mukti Rahayu di Kecamatan Jenawi. Salah satu bagian tanaman yang pemanfaatannya masih sangat terbatas adalah batang pisang, khususnya bagian dalam yang berwarna putih, yang biasa disebut hati batang pisang. Permasalahan yang dijumpai adalah bahwa masyarakat di kecamatan Jenawi belum mengenal teknologi/cara pembuatan kerupuk dan dendeng berbahan dasar hati batang pisang. Melalui pembuatan kerupuk dan dendeng hati batang pisang, masyarakat dapat meningkatkan kemanfaatan tanaman pisang, dan dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif mata pencaharian baru. Hasil yang telah dicapai dalam kegiatan ini yaitu Pelatihan Tahap I berupa pembuatan kerupuk dan dendeng dari hati pisang yang telah dilaksanakan pada tanggal 9 Agustus 2017 pada 2 Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT).Antusiasme tampak terlihat dari peserta yang mayoritas merupakan ibu rumah tangga. Kegiatan ini dihadiri sekitar 50 orang peserta, pamong desa dan penyuluh pertanian. Dalam kegiatan ini juga diberikan bantuan kepada kedua KWT berupa oven gas, blender, wajan, baskom serta bahan-bahan keperluan pembuatan kerupuk dan dendeng. Pelatihan Tahap II dilaksanakan pada tanggal 8 September 2017 dengan agenda menguji kualitas baik dari segi rasa, bentuk dan gizi dari hasil olahan kerupuk dan dendeng tersebut. Kerupuk hati batang pisang hasil olahan ke dua KWT peserta pelatihan, telah memenuhi standar kerupuk pada umumnya yaitu renyah, dan gurih. Sedangkan produk olahan dendeng juga sudah menyerupai dendeng yang berbahan dasar daging sapi, hanya saja dari segi warna kurang mengkilap karena serat hati batang pisang tidak mengandung lemak. Oleh sebab itu ke dua jenis makanan hasil olahan hati batang pisang, utamanya kerupuk, dengan kemasan yang menarik siap diproduksi masal untuk dipasarkan secara luas. Kerupuk hati batang pisang dapat menjadi alternatif makanan camilan, dengan menambah perasa makanan seperti keju, bumbu barbeque, lada hitam, dan lain-lain.

Abstract

Jenawi Subdistrict was one of the sub-districts that located in the Karanganyar Regency area which has the location of the pilot project for planting banana plants as a product of tissue culture form Agriculture Faculty, Universitas Sebelas Maret. There are many banana plants that grow well with abundant fruit production. One part of the banana plant that has not been utilized was the inside of a white banana stem called the heart of a banana stem or ares. Ares can be processed into healthy food products that have high fiber content, namely crackers. The technology or method to made crackers has never been done. This activity aims to produced ares crackers with various shapes and flavors and analyzed the economic feasibility of the business. The main objective of this activity was to improve the empowerment of women farmers as a companion husband who has the ability to help increase the family's economy by producing crackers ares. This activity was a side activity that can be done at home or together in a group of women farmers. The method used participatory rural appraisal which emphasizes innovation and technology in making ares crackers using simple technology. The program’s hope the technology was easy to adopt and sustainable because it uses simple technology. The activity begins with an explanation of the methods and stages of making crackers. The activity continued with training in economic analysis of cracker products. The results of economic analysis showed that to produce 20 kg crackers required a fixed cost of production of Rp. 33,330, - and variable costs of Rp. 564,700. Total revenue from 20 kg crackers was Rp. 920,000, - so that the total income was Rp. 321,970, -. Based on this value, the R / C Ratio value was 1.53 (feasible), the B / C Ratio was 0.53 (feasible). So that based on economic analysis, banana stem crackers or ares crackers business is feasible to be cultivated and developed.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Dukuh Ngulang, Desa Gedongrejo, Kecamatan Giriwoyo, Kabupaten Wonogiri dengan judul : Pendampingan Konservasi Tanah Dengan Rumput Akar Wangi Di Giriwoyo Wonogiri. Tujuan adalah merespon kebutuhan dan keinginan masyarakat untuk menyelamatkan tebing sungai dari ancaman banjir, longsor dan erosi tebing sungai Bengawan Solo Hulu, terciptanya model konservasi tanah dan air dengan penanaman rumput gelagah dan akar wangi yang didukung oleh masyarakat setempat. Manfaat adalah memotivasi dan membuka peluang untuk menambah penghasilan warga dengan penanaman akar wangi yang bermanfaat ganda untuk konservasi dan peluang usaha, membuka jejaring antara petani dengan pengusaha kerajinan akar wangi, pelatihan ketrampilan membuat kerajinan akar wangi. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendampingan dan pemnberdayaan masyrakat, Tim UNS sebagai fasilitator, sedangkan petani Dukuh Ngulang didorong untuk dapat mandiri. Selama proses kegiatan ini sebagian besar prakarsa diserahkan kepada petani yang ditunjuk sebagai koordinator lapang. Adapun pelaksanaannya dilakukan dalam beberapa tahapan antara lain observasi lapang, perencanaan desain dan lokasi demplot, survai ketersediaan bibit akar wangi, diskusi terbatas dengan petani, penyiapan demplot, diskusi dan evaluasi penyiapan demplot, pembentukan kelompok pemerhati tebing sungai, monitoring hasil penyiapan demplot, kunjungan ke pengrajin akar wangi, sekolah lapang budidaya akar wangi, penanaman rumput akar wangi, monitoring hasil penanaman rumput gelagah dan akar wangi, perencanaan tindak lanjut ke depan. Hasil yang dicapai antara lain luas demplot penanganan tebing sungai 200m x 2m, sedangkan di luar demplot sepanjang 200m (kanan dan kiri sungai). Kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini antara lain Kepala Desa Gedongrejo sangat mendukung adanya kegiatan IPTEKS dari Tim UNS, warga Dukuh Ngulang tempat demplot, merespon sangat positif dengan adanya pembuatan demplot penanganan tebing sungai, secara mandiri telah terbentuk Kelompok Pemerhati Tebing Sungai “Ngudi Mulyo” Dukuh Ngulang Gedongrejo Giriwoyo Wonogiri, warga petani Dukuh Ngulang mengharapkan Tim UNS tetap sebagai fasilitator dan mendamping.

Abstract

Water conservation is needed to overcome the shortage of irrigation water through harvesting rainwater on rainfed land using small farm reservoir. Intensive agricultural activities cause a reduction in land resources which disrupts hydrological functions (water quantity and quality). This study aims to determine the selected parameters for small farm reservoir water quality and identify water quality based on irrigation water standards according to FAO (1994) and PP No. 82 of 2001. The research was conducted from March to December 2014 in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java Province. This study used a descriptive exploratory survey method with purposive sampling. Water quality data was analyzed using Principal Components Analysis (Multivariate Test) MINITAB 16 to determine the main components as the selected determinants. Furthermore, based on the results of the PCA analysis, 5 variables were obtained whose eigenvalue proportions met the main criteria, including DHL of 0.467; SAR of 0.542; pH of 0.538; Actual Savings Ratio (ASR) of 0.662; and water-air temperature deviation of 0.612. Furthermore, a match is made between the selected determinant measurement data and the water quality standard. The results of matching to the selected determinants for water quality in the reservoir have met the water quality standards for irrigation based on FAO (1994) and Government Regulation no. 82 (2001). The soil characteristics of the catchment area also affect water quality because in rainwater harvesting, surface runoff in the catchment area will flow and be accommodated by the small farm reservoir. Abstract

Tawangmangu District, Indonesia, is located in a highland area with a cool climate and is predominantly composed of Andisol soil types, offering great potential for the development of potato crops (Solanum tuberosum L.). This study aims to examine soil physical properties suitable for potato cultivation, analyze the distribution of these properties across different slope gradients, and identify appropriate soil management strategies for the Tawangmangu area. The research employed a descriptive-exploratory approach, utilizing land map units (LMUs) that were determined through the overlay of soil type maps, rainfall data, slope gradients, and land use. The overlay resulted in 5 LMUs and 25 sampling points. Observed soil physical parameters included texture, porosity, permeability, consistency, effective soil depth, coarse material, and drainage. The land suitability assessment showed that LMUs 1, 2, and 3 were classified as S3-oa, limited by drainage, while LMUs 4 and 5 were classified as S3-oa,rc, limited by both drainage and effective soil depth. Slope gradient significantly affected moisture content (p = 0.022), bulk density (p = 0.037), particle density (p = 0.048), porosity (p = 0.032), effective soil depth (p = 0.001), and coarse material content (p = 0.032). Recommended land management efforts include the addition of organic matter, manual tillage for shallow soils, and the application of eco-drainage techniques to improve soil physical suitability for potato cultivation in Tawangmangu.

Abstract

The accurate estimation of soil organic carbon stocks (SOCs) is crucial in sustainable oil palm plantation management. Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) serve as an essential predictive tool for enhancing the interpretation and estimation of soil organic carbon stocks (SOCs) and soil porosity. This study aims to improve the precision of SOCs and soil porosity predictions across diverse soil types within oil palm plantations through the application of PTFs. The study was conducted using a survey approach and descriptive exploration in an oil palm plantation in Seruyan District, Central Kalimantan. The study area encompassed four distinct soil types (Alfisols, Inceptisols, Ultisols, and Entisols), with six replicates for each soil type. Soil samples were collected from a depth of 0–60 cm. Statistical analyses included ANOVA, Tukey’s pairwise comparisons, correlation, and stepwise regression. The results indicated that soil types within oil palm plantations did not significantly affect SOCs but significantly impacted soil porosity. SOCs and porosity estimated using PTFs were lower than those estimated without PTFs. Specifically, SOCs analysis with PTFs ranged from 3.4 to 7.1 kg m-²; without PTFs, the range was higher, between 8.1 and 10.9 kg m-². Among the soil types, Entisols exhibited higher porosity with PTFs (51.3%), while Ultisols had the lowest porosity (37.9%). The PTFs provide better predictions for SOCs and porosity, and predictor variables that contribute the most are sand, silt, bulk density (BD), and cation exchange capacity (CEC). PTFs provide an advanced, data-driven approach to assessing SOCs and soil porosity in oil palm plantations, supporting the development of smarter, sustainable, and highly efficient management strategies.

Abstract

The uncertainty in precipitation patterns resulting from climate change may contribute to uncertainties in the growing seasons and productivity of rice and other agricultural commodities. This study aimed to examine the changes in precipitation and cropping patterns across various topographic sequences of volcanic regions in Central Java, Indonesia. Precipitation data from 33 rainfall stations across three topographic sequences (0-400 meters, 400-700 meters, and above 700 meters above sea level, categorized as high, mid, and lowlands, respectively) were analyzed to understand cropping patterns using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings revealed that farmers' actual cropping patterns were not primarily influenced by precipitation levels but rather by soil suitability. Moreover, the frequency of drought occurrences, as indicated by the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), did not significantly impact cropping patterns or crop yields. Instead, agricultural yields were found to be dependent on irrigation infrastructure rather than precipitation levels. This study sheds light on the importance of adaptation and mitigation strategies to address the adverse impacts of climate change on agricultural management across different topographic sequences.
