Abstract

The research aims to observe the influence of harvesting time on the change of calcium oxalate (CaOx) content and crystal density in Porang corms. The corms were harvested at different times, i.e., (1) two weeks before the plants shed (R0-1), (2) when the plants shed (R0), and (3) two weeks after the plants shed (R0+1). CaOx was obtained using the modified extracting method. Microscopic observations were obtained from the slices of the edge and center part of porang corms. Parameter observed including CaOx content, corm weight, shape, and density of CaOx crystal. CaOx content and crystal density in corms were analyzed using One way ANOVA. If the results are significant, it will be followed by Tukey Test α 0.05. In the meantime, the relation between CaOx content and corm weight was analyzed using Correlation Test Bivariate. The results showed that CaOx content was relatively higher in porang corms, i.e., 15.98 ± 0.60g/100g. On the other hand, the increasing of CaOx content might improve corm weight. The total density of druse, styloid, and prism crystal was pretty high in corms obtained when the plants shed compared to another harvest time, i.e., 1,494 ± 286; 31,280 ± 17,406 and 6,256 ± 1,533 crystals/cm2 . Raphide crystal density, by contrast, increased in corms obtained after the plants shed, i.e.,1,656 ± 368 crystals/cm2 . Total CaOx crystal density in the edge parts of corms harvested when the plants shed was proportionately higher than in the other harvest times, i.e., 12,292 ± 4,687.89 crystals/cm2 . In contrast, CaOx crystal densities in the center parts of corms were not much different at three harvesting times. The density of druse and prism crystals was somewhat higher in the center part of corms than in the edge parts. In opposition to, the density of raphide and styloid crystals was fairly higher in the edge part of corms than it was in the center parts. However, only raphide crystal density found in the edge and center part of corms was significantly affected by harvest time from all these results.

Abstract

Sunlight was suspected to affect CaOx crystal formation in porang. This research had aim to determine variations in forms of CaOx crystals and the influence of shade on the density of CaOx crystals in porang. Preparations for microscopic observation derived from sliced leaf, petiole, and tuber of porang that grown under shaded and exposed to sunlight conditions. Sliced organ was cleared by using the modified clearing method. The parameters that observed included shape, shape variety, and density of CaOx crystals. CaOx crystal density were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Tukey (α 0.05). The differences of crystal density between the edges and middle of the organ were analyzed using Paired Samples T Test. Microscopic observation showed that CaOx crystals were grouped into large (20-710 m) and small (1-15 m) crystals size. The density of CaOx crystals in plants exposed to sunlight was 3 times higher than the shaded plants. Leaf organ had the highest number of crystal compared to others organ. The tuber had the lowest density of CaOx crystals among organ. In addition, the shaded or exposed to sunlight condition had no effect on CaOx crystal density between the edges and center of the organ.

Abstract

Waktu panen diduga berpengaruh terhadap kandungan glukomannan pada umbi porang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu panen terhadap dinamika kandungan glukomannan pada umbi porang. Glukomannan diekstraksi dari umbi porang yang diperoleh pada saat dua minggu sebelum tanaman rebah, pada saat tanaman rebah dan dua minggu setelah tanaman rebah. Glukomannan diperoleh dengan menggunakan metode ekstraksi yang telah dimodifikasi. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kandungan glukomannan dan berat kering umbi. Data kandungan glukomannan pada umbi dianalisis dengan One way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan dengan Tukey α 0,05. Sedangkan hubungan antara kandungan glukomannan terhadap berat umbi dianalisis dengan menggunakan Uji Korelasi Bivariate. Dari hasil analisis, Kadar glukomannan cenderung lebih tinggi pada umbi porang yang dipanen saat tanaman rebah dibandingkan dengan glukomannan pada umbi yang diperoleh ketika sebelum dan setelah tanaman rebah yaitu sebesar 29,10 ± 4,57 g/100 g. Peningkatan kandungan glukomannan dapat meningkatkan berat umbi porang.

Abstract

ABSTRACTMangrove ecosystems have an important role in sustainable development both ecologically, economically andsocially. Today, mangrove forests as ecotourism are much in demand by local and foreign communities as a naturetourism trip with the aim of enjoying and studying the natural ecosystems and socio-cultural local communities.This study aims to find out and formulate strategies to increase the role of the community in preserving mangroveand bekantan ecotourism in Karang Rejo village, West Tarakan. The method used is descriptive qualitative datacollection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis used is theSWOT analysis (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threats). The results of the study found strategies toincrease the role of the community in preserving local wisdom of mangrove ecotourism that can be used are: (1)Revitalizing infrastructure facilities of mangrove and bekantan ecotourism to be more productive and attractive;(2) Providing soft skills training to the community regarding the use of mangrove forests; (3) Promoting mangroveand bekantan ecotourism through social and elektronic media; (4) Cooperating with all stakeholders in supportingthe preservation of mangrove forests, and; (5) Developing local handicraft products industry with make somesouvenir, food, and medicines from mangrove raw materials.Keyword: Strategy, Community Role, Ecotourism, Mangroves and BekantanABSTRAKEkosistem mangrove mempunyai peranan penting dalam pembangunan berkelanjutan baik secara ekologis,ekonomis, maupun sosial. Hutan mangrove sebagai ekowisata dewasa ini banyak diminati oleh masyarakat lokalmaupun mancanegara sebagai sebuah perjalanan wisata alam dengan tujuan menikmati dan mempelajariekosistem alam dan sosial budaya masyarakat lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan merumuskanstrategi peningkatan peran masyarakat dalam melestarikan ekowisata mangrove dan bekantan di kelurahan KarangRejo Tarakan Barat. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupaobservasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Adapun analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis SWOT(Strenght,Weakness, Opportunity, dan Threats). Hasil penelitian ditemukan strategi peningkatan peranmasyarakat dalam melestarikan kearifan lokal ekowisata mangrove yang dapat dilakukan adalah: (1) RevitalisasiSarana Prasarana (Sanpras) ekowisata mangrove dan bekantan agar lebih produktif dan menarik; (2) Melakukanpelatihan soft skill kepada masyarakat tentang pemanfaatan hutan mangrove; (3) Melakukan promosi ekowisatamangrove dan bekantan melalui media cetak maupun media elektronik; (4) Melakukan kerjasama dengan seluruhstakeholder dalam mendukung pelestarian hutan mangrove, dan; (5) Mengembangkan industri produk kerajinanlokal masyarakat seperti sovenir, makanan, dan obat-obatan dari bahan baku mangrove.Kata kunci: Strategi, Peran Masyarakat, Ekowisata, Mangrove dan Bekantan

Abstract

Cayenne pepper is known as one of main commodities which is often used as food seasoning in Indonesia. The growth of cayenne pepper plant is strongly influenced by fertilizer application. It is because the addition of fertilizer will increase the productivity of cayenne pepper. This research  had aim to determine the effect of NPK fertilizer dosage on cayenne pepper vegetative growth at marginal field. This study used a non-factorial randomized block design (RAK) with 5 replications. The treatments were conducted i.e. P0 = Control, P1 = 2.5 grams of NPK, P2 = 5 grams of NPK, P3 = 7.5 grams of NPK, and P4 = 10 grams of NPK. Parameters were observed i.e. plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf width, leaf length and number of flowers. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, then it were  continued with  DMRT test. The results showed that the dose of NPK fertilizer had a significant effect in line with the increase in the dose of NPK on the vegetative growth of cayenne pepper plants. The Application of NPK fertilizer 10 grams on plant height was 29.37% higher than without treatment. The Application of NPK fertilizer 10 grams on plant stem diameters was 25.86% wider than it was without treatment. The Application of NPK fertilizer 10 grams on the number of leaves was 36.89% more than it was without treatment. The Application of NPK fertilizer 10 grams on leaf width was 16.25% wider than it was without treatment. The Application of NPK fertilizer 10 grams on leaf length was 23.97% longer than it was without treatment. The Application of NPK fertilizer 10 grams on the number of flowers was 90.93% more than it was without treatment. The P4 treatment, i.e. the application of NPK fertilizer 10 grams, was the best treatment for all vegetative growth parameters of cayenne pepper plants.

Abstract

This paper describes about the role of taxonomic in ecotourism development in Indonesia. Development and management of ecotourism in Indonesia recently are still quite slow and inadequate. It is due to the lack of knowledge of local community about the information of flora and fauna which is used as ecotourism attraction. Therefore the taxonomical science needs to be applied to the development of ecotourism in Indonesia. In addition, some species which are used as tourist attractions needs to be identified and classified to preserve the resource. Implementation of taxonomy related to survey, documentation, data collection, identification and classification to establish the identity of a species for ecotourism attraction. Methods are commonly used for the implementation of taxonomy in the ecotourism development, i.e. (1) morphological observation, (2) vocalizations and (3) molecular analysis. Morphological observations can be applied by qualitative and quantitative observations. Qualitative observation is an observation of a species, which is related to morphology and coloration, and comparison with other species which are suspected related. Quantitative observation is a morphometric analysis, which is a concept of quantitative analysis of the species that related to the size and shape of a species. Vocalization method is applied by determining the vocal character of a species, by comparing the data, which has obtained, with the data vocals from other species which are suspected related. Molecular analysis is commonly used to support the identification of morphological and vocalization of the species. Abstract

Kalimantan Utara merupakan salah satu provinsi yang berbatasan langsung dengan Negara Malaysia perlu didukung untuk dapat berkembang sehingga masyarakatnya tidak tergantung dengan produk-produk pertanian dari daerah Negara lain. Salah satu hal yang bisa dilakukan guna mendukung hal tersebut adalah dengan menerapkan program pertanian terpadu. Desa batu kajang merupakan salah satu desa terluar di wilayah Kalimantan Utara dan sebagian besar masyarakatnya bermata pencaharian sebagai petani tanaman hortikultura, permasalahan yang ada di desa Batu Kajang yaitu masyarakatnya belum banyak yang memiliki usaha sampingan lain untuk menunjang ekonomi keluarga sehingga masyarakat disana hanya bergantung pada pendapatan hasil panen yang dijual kepasar. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Desa Batu Kajang Kabupaten Malinau Provinsi Kalimantan Utara. Mekanisme kegiatan dibagi kedalam beberapa tahapan yaitu survei, sosialisasi, pelatihan dan evaluasi kegiatan. Kegiatan pelatihan merupakan kegiatan puncak dari PKM yaitu bimbingan teknis kepada masyarakat mengenai pembuatan instalasi hidroponik dan pembuatan kolam terpal untuk ikan lele. Tahapan pelatihan terdiri dari beberapa tahapan diantaranya pembuatan instalasi hidroponik, Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat berjalan dengan baik ditunjukkan dengan antuasisme masyarakat desa batu kajang yang sangat besar dalam mengikuti pelatihan tersebut. Budidaya tanaman secara hidroponik dan ternak lele merupakan salah satu solusi terbaik sebagai usaha sampingan dalam meningkatkan pendapatan ekonomi keluarga.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui pengaruh efektivitas gulma Ludwigia parviflora dan Portulaca oleracea dalam mengendalikan gulma Eleusine indica di lahan budidaya cabai. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan 9 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Perlakuan yang digunakan yaitu P0 = kontrol, P1 = L. parviflora 25%, P2 = P. oleracea 25%, P3 = L. parviflora 50%, P4 = P. oleracea 50%, P5 = L. parviflora 75%, P6 = P. oleracea 75%, P7 = L. parviflora 100%, dan P8 = Portulaca oleracea 100%. Parameter pengamatan yaitu mortalitas gulma, tinggi gulma, jumlah daun gulma, berat basah pupus gulma, berat kering pupus gulma, berat basah akar gulma, berat kering akar gulma, tinggi cabai dan jumlah daun cabai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan pengamatan P8 pada parameter pengamatan mortalitas gulma 4 MSPT, 6 MSPT perlakuan tinggi gulma 2 MSPT, dan 4 MSPT  berbeda nyata dengan perlakuan lainnya. Perlakuan pengamatan jumlah daun gulma 2 MSPT, 4 MSPT dan 6 MSPT, tinggi tanaman cabai 2 MSPT, 4 MSPT dan 6 MSPT dan jumlah daun cabai 2 MSPT, 4 MSPT, dan 6 MSPT tinggi gulma 6 MSPT, berat basah pupus gulma, berat kering pupus gulma, berat basah akar gulma dan berat kering akar tidak berbeda nyata terhadap perlakuan lainnya.

Abstract

Pakcoy merupakan jenis sayuran yang banyak dibudidayakan di Kota Tarakan. Salah satu kendala budidaya Pakcoy adalah adanya gulma meniran yang banyak tumbuh di sekitar tempat budidaya pakcoy. Salah satu cara mengendalikan gulma meniran adalah melalui penggunaan herbisida nabati yang berasal dari gulma belulang. Kandungan metabolit sekunder dari belulang mampu mengendalikan gulma meniran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak belulang dalam mengendalikan gulma meniran pada tanaman pakcoy. Penelitian ini mengunakan rancangan acak kelompok 1 faktor, 4 ulangan, dan 6 taraf perlakuan, yaitu tanpa ekstrak belulang, ekstrak belulang 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, dan 100%. Peubah yang diamati berupa tinggi tanaman pakcoy 1-5 MST, jumlah daun pakcoy 1-5 MST, bobot basah pakcoy 1-5 MST, tinggi gulma meniran 1-5 MST, jumlah daun gulma meniran1-5 MST, kerusakan gulma meniran 1-5 MST, bobot basah gulma meniran, bobot kering gulma meniran.  Analisis data menggunakan ANOVA dan data yang berpengaruh nyata dilanjutkan dengan uji lanjut DMRT. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan ekstrak gulma belulang 100% mampu menurunkan tinggi gulma, jumlah daun, bobot basah dan bobot kering gulma meniran serta memberikan tingkat kerusakan daun gulma meniran paling tinggi.

Abstract

Chemical compounds are presumed to interact with each other and potentially affect the crystal development of porang tubers. This study focused on glucomannan and calcium oxalate (CaOx) as chemical compounds found in porang. Crystal development was analyzed by microscopic observation. The tuber tissue was used for microscopic slides and was harvested two weeks before the plants lost their leaves, when the plants lost their leaves, and two weeks after the plants lost their leaves. The CaOx and glucomannan content was measured using a modified extraction method. The increasing of CaOx content tends to increase the number of CaOx crystals. The analysis showed that the crystal density could affect the increasing of tuber weight possibility. There was a development process in raphide crystals that showed by different sizes at three harvest times, which the others were not. The results also indicated that glucomannan might influence the crystal density and the CaOx content. It can be concluded that glucomannan can potentially induce CaOx synthesis and crystal count increase. Keywords: Caox, Crystal, Development, Glucomannan, Interact, Porang.
